Book Composite Resin Bonding to Bleached Enamel

Download or read book Composite Resin Bonding to Bleached Enamel written by Anand C. Patil and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of different concentrations of hydrogel of sodium ascorbate on bond strength of bleached enamel for varying periods of time and the mode of failure was evaluated.Seventy enamel surfaces were obtained from 35 human extracted premolars. Specimens were divided into four groups: no bleaching (control), bleaching with carbamide peroxide gel, bleaching and application of 10% / 20% sodium ascorbate hydrogel for 30, 60, 120 min. Surfaces were bonded with a total etch bonding system and composite resin. Specimens were tested for shear bond strength. Mode of failure was determined by stereomicroscope. Data were analyzed using a two-way analysis of variance, and Scheffe's post hoc test. Sodium ascorbate hydrogel application following bleaching increased the resin-enamel bond strength and was directly proportional to its duration of application. However, there was no difference in bond strength with an increase in the concentration of sodium ascorbate hydrogel. Immediate bonding of composite resin to bleached enamel is possible after treatment with antioxidant sodium ascorbate hydrogel.

This book was released on 2012-07-02 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tools for detecting false positives, false negatives, and interference in interactions when testing and monitoring therapeutic drug use For physicians monitoring a patient's progress, efficacy of treatment is often linked to a patient's response to medication. Determining whether a patient is taking the prescribed amount, the drug or dosage is effective, or the prescribed medication is interacting with other drugs can be determined through drug testing. Written as a guide for toxicologists, chemists, and health professionals involved in patient care, Resolving Erroneous Reports in Toxicology and Therapeutic Drug Monitoring provides an up-to-date introduction to the tests and methodologies used in a toxicology lab as well as the sources of testing error that can lead to false positives, false negatives, and unreliable conclusions of drug abuse or under use. Covering a host of common therapeutic drugs as well as specific types of interference in immunoassays used in drug testing, the book details a number of possible testing scenarios and problems as well as solutions: False positive results in immunoassays for drugs in abuse testing Interferences in immunoassays used for monitoring anticonvulsants, tricyclic antidepressants, and digoxin False positive alcohol tests using breath analyzers and automated analyzers When a toxicology report is negative in a suspected overdose patient: the world of designer drugs Effects of drug-herb interactions on therapeutic drug monitoring Pharmacogenomics and the general principles of genetic analysis Approaches for eliminating interference/discordant specimen in therapeutic drug monitoring and drugs in abuse testing What to do in case there is no readily available method for testing Complete with easy-to-read tables and flowcharts, this book helps toxicologists, clinical chemists, clinical pathologists, and forensic pathologists develop accurate, unbiased drug monitoring and toxicology reports. Health care professionals involved in patient care, especially of critically ill patients, will find this guide indispensable in making sure lab tests are reliable enough to provide high-quality care. An indispensable handbook to the entire suite of toxicology lab tests, as well as all the possible sources of testing error, Resolving Erroneous Reports in Toxicology and Therapeutic Drug Monitoring offers clear remedies for eliminating and preventing testing error.

Abstract: Abstract 1 ABSTRACT Purpose: To investigate effects of metal thicknesses and surface treatment methods on the shear bond strength of a dual cured composite resin bonded to three different ceramo-metal dental alloys: nickel-chromium, high-gold and high-palladium dental alloys. Materials and Methods: A dual-cured adhesive composite resin was used to bond dental metal alloy plates of different thickness, composition and surface treatment to acid etched bovine enamel. The specimens (n=180) were stored in water for 24 hours and then loaded in shear with a universal testing machine to failure and bond strengths were recorded. Results: Using ANOVA, the mean shear bond strength for nickel chromium was found to be significantly higher than the other two noble metals (P0.05). Heat treatment of the noble metals showed no significant difference in bond strength compared with sandblasted samples (P>0.05). There was a significant increase in mean shear bond strength with increase in metal 1 Abstract thickness from 0.5mm to 0.7mm (PConclusion: Within the limitations of this study, resin-bonded metal alloy restorations with thickness of 0.7mm or more are preferred over 0.5mm thickness. The differences in shear bond strength between the two noble alloys and the nickel chromium alloy is likely due to the lack of suitable metal oxide. Heat treatment of precious metal alloys did not increase the bond strength to etched enamel and therefore further studies should investigate the use of copper containing gold and non-gold noble alloys which are thought to create suitable oxides for bonding. The relationship between composition of metal alloy, method of surface treatment and the choice of adhesive primer should be carefully considered before clinical use. Book Dental Hard Tissues and Bonding

Download or read book Dental Hard Tissues and Bonding written by George Eliades and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-06 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively reviews bonding to enamel, dentin and cementum and analyses relevant adhesion mechanisms. It is addressed to both the dental researcher and the clinician. Emphasis is placed on the characterization of material interfaces with dental tissues in situ. The volume also stresses the importance of appropriate experimental protocol design in facilitating clinically-relevant research methods, clarifies the mechanisms of adhesion of polymeric materials to hard dental tissues and furnishes a handy reference for routine clinical procedures in restorative and prosthetic dentistry as well as orthodontics. The book introduces important aspects of the chemistry of dental materials and their adaptation to dental hard tissues. It also analyses interfacial phenomena occurring during application of materials, including mechanical properties, and structural-compositional alterations. The text presents the current instrumental approaches in studying related issues and a summary of the current status of theories concerning bonding to dental tissues. This work, in its scope and scientific content, provides an in-depth view of the way in which aesthetic dentistry is currently being practiced.
