Book Effect of Fabric Deflection at High Speeds on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of the Horizontal Tail Surface of an SB2D 1 Airplane

Download or read book Effect of Fabric Deflection at High Speeds on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of the Horizontal Tail Surface of an SB2D 1 Airplane written by Carl F. Schueller and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: Results are presented of an investigation of a full-scale horizontal tail surface to determine the elevator-fabric deflection at high speeds and the aerodynamic effects of the fabric deflection. Two fabric-covered elevators, differing only in rib spacing, and a solid wooden elevator were tested. The first elevator had a rib spacing of approximately 4 inches. The second elevator had a rib spacing of approximately 8 inches, which is more nearly typical of the spacing currently used. Tests were carried to a maximum Mach number of 0.68 except for model configurations for which the maximum allowable loads were reached at lower speeds.

Book Investigation of Engine exhaust airframe Interference on a Cruise Vehicle at Mach 6

Download or read book Investigation of Engine exhaust airframe Interference on a Cruise Vehicle at Mach 6 written by James M. Cubbage and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results from an investigation of the effects of underexpanded engine exhaust flow on the aerodynamic performance and stability of a cruise airplane at Mach 6 are presented. The influence of wing reflex angle and nozzle geometry on exhaust flow interference effects was investigated on a flat-plate model. The experiments were conducted at a free-stream Reynolds number of 17.05 X 10 (to the 6 power) based on the length of the airplane model over a model angle-of-attack range of 0(degrees) to 10(degrees) and at nozzle static-pressure ratios from 1 to approximately 4.

Book Design for Control of Projectile Flight Characteristics

Download or read book Design for Control of Projectile Flight Characteristics written by United States. Army Materiel Command and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook presents a general survey of the principal factors affecting the flight of projectiles, and describes the methods commonly used for predicting and influencing the flight performance. The coefficients which characterize the aerodynamic forces and moments of a moving body are identified, methods for determining the coefficients applicable to a projectile having a given shape and center of gravity location are described, and the coefficients of a number of projectiles and projectile shapes are given. The use of aerodynamic coefficients in predicting stability, range and accuracy is described. The effects of variations in projectile shape and center of gravity location on range, accuracy and lethality are discussed. Some material on prototype testing and the effects of round-to-round variations in production lots is presented.

Book Elements of Gas Dynamics

Download or read book Elements of Gas Dynamics written by H. W. Liepmann and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-04-09 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing importance of concepts from compressible fluid flow theory for aeronautical applications makes the republication of this first-rate text particularly timely. Intended mainly for aeronautics students, the text will also be helpful to practicing engineers and scientists who work on problems involving the aerodynamics of compressible fluids. Covering the general principles of gas dynamics to provide a working understanding of the essentials of gas flow, the contents of this book form the foundation for a study of the specialized literature and should give the necessary background for reading original papers on the subject. Topics include introductory concepts from thermodynamics, including entropy, reciprocity relations, equilibrium conditions, the law of mass action and condensation; one-dimensional gasdynamics, one-dimensional wave motion, waves in supersonic flow, flow in ducts and wind tunnels, methods of measurement, the equations of frictionless flow, small-perturbation theory, transonic flow, effects of viscosity and conductivity, and much more. The text includes numerous detailed figures and several useful tables, while concluding exercises demonstrate the application of the material in the text and outline additional subjects. Advanced undergraduate or graduate physics and engineering students with at least a working knowledge of calculus and basic physics will profit immensely from studying this outstanding volume.

Book Rocket and Spacecraft Propulsion

Download or read book Rocket and Spacecraft Propulsion written by Martin J. L. Turner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-08-29 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revised edition of this practical, hands-on book discusses the launch vehicles in use today throughout the world, and includes the latest details on advanced systems being developed, such as electric and nuclear propulsion. The author covers the fundamentals, from the basic principles of rocket propulsion and vehicle dynamics through the theory and practice of liquid and solid propellant motors, to new and future developments. He provides a serious exposition of the principles and practice of rocket propulsion, from the point of view of the user who is not an engineering specialist.

Book Wingless Flight

Download or read book Wingless Flight written by R. Dale Reed and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2014-07-15 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most lifting bodies, or "flying bathtubs" as they were called, were so ugly only an engineer could love them, and yet, what an elegant way to keep wings from burning off in supersonic flight between earth and orbit. Working in their spare time (because they couldn't initially get official permission), Dale Reed and his team of engineers demonstrated the potential of the design that led to the Space Shuttle. Wingless Flight takes us behind the scenes with just the right blend of technical information and fascinating detail (the crash of M2-F2 found new life as the opening credit for TV's "The Six Million Dollar Man"). The flying bathtub, itself, is finding new life as the proposed escape-pod for the Space Station.
