Download or read book Routledge International Handbook of Music Psychology in Education and the Community written by Andrea Creech and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-26 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides an evidence-based account of psychological perspectives on issues in music education and music in the community through the life course, exploring our understanding of music learning and participation across contexts. The contributors draw on multidisciplinary research from different cultures and contexts in order to set out the implications of music psychology for music education and music in the community. Highlighting the intersecting issues across education and community contexts, the book proposes new theories as well as offering important refinements to existing conceptual models. Split into six parts, it considers the role of music in society as well as for groups and individuals, and explores topics such as processing and responding to music; pedagogical and musical practices that support or pose challenges to the emotional, cognitive, social or physical wellbeing of learners and participants in a range of contexts; and ‘music in identity’ or ‘identity in music’. With the final part on future directions and the implications for professional practice in music education and music in the community, the book concludes by exploring how the two sectors might work more closely together within a post-COVID-19 world. Based on cutting-edge research from an international team, this is essential reading for anyone interested in music psychology, education and community, and it will be particularly helpful for undergraduate and graduate students in music psychology, music education and community music.
Download or read book Cognition in the Real World written by Alastair D. Smith and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-03 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only textbook to frame cognitive psychology in the context of our everyday lives. Our lives are governed by cognitive processes, whether we are searching for a face in a crowd, driving to work, or learning a second language. Cognition in the Real World brings together expert contributors who explain the processes underlying everyday behaviours. It is set apart from traditional textbooks by being organised by behaviours we are exposed to every day-such as drawing a picture, learning your way around a new city, or deciding how to invest your money. Such activities naturally involve a variety of cognitive functions; by considering thesefunctions in an integrated way, the text provides a complete picture of how behaviours work together, rather than separately.Drawing upon important insights from areas such as developmental psychology and neuroscience, Cognition in the Real World demonstrates how cognitive psychology fits with the broader subjects around it, rather than treating it as an independent topic. With a strong foundation in cognitive theory, framed by an original and engaging real-world approach, the text makes the topics of cognition come alive.
Download or read book Language in Focus written by Kasia Papaja and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-12-14 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Linguistics is a field of academic enquiry that deals with the theoretical and empirical investigation of real issues which focus on language. These issues include aspects of linguistics, first or second language acquisition, literacy, language disorders, foreign language learning and teaching, bilingual education, linguistic discrimination, and language policy, among others. New approaches, new theoretical concepts and new methods are a prerequisite for dealing with particular educational issues, and, as such, this book focuses on the challenges and opportunities that emerge from this. It brings together selected presentations given at the LIF2014 conference, which took place in Antalya, Turkey. The main focus of this event was to reflect the internationality of the English language by drawing academicians, researchers, teachers and educational authorities from all over the world and providing them with the opportunity to exchange an interdisciplinary dialogue on the theoretical as well as purely practical implications of Applied Linguistics and ELT.
Download or read book Behavior Management in Today s Schools written by Edward Cancio and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-02-08 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children enter the school doors today with many diverse needs: mental health problems, ADHD, anxiety, victims of physical or sexual abuse, homelessness, or facing some other type of trauma. Teachers in today’s classrooms are struggling to understand the needs of their students and to provide a supportive and nurturing environment, while maintaining structure and routine. In whatever setting students are, teachers must understand the challenges that students come to school facing, know how to assess the needs of the children, build positive relationships with them, collaborate with others, and take care of themselves. The first book in this two book volume explored the needed components in setting the stage for meeting the needs of the students. This second volume provides the specific interventions that teachers will need to implement. Included in this volume are evidence-based academic interventions and behavioral interventions. Other chapters provide interventions to incorporate wellness and the creative arts. Strategies to teach social skills and to prepare students for independent living and the world of work are also an integral part of this volume.

Download or read book How to Enhance Learning Efficiency When Online Learning is Popular and Indispensable Theory Research and Practice written by Rong Lian and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-07-17 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Online learning has become more and more common globally, whether for comfort, adapting to work hours or just having the freedom to study from anywhere. And now under the coronavirus pandemic, as people are having to stay at home, it has become more important than ever. Although the popularity of wireless network and portable smart device makes it possible for people to acquire and learn knowledge anytime and anywhere, it does not necessarily mean an increased learning performance. Relevant research in cognitive science has revealed possible limitations in online learning. For example, the knowledge acquired through online learning tends to be fragmented and lacks guidance for integrated thinking among different subjects, which makes it difficult for learners to form a systematic knowledge structure. Learners may experience cognitive overload, metacognitive illusion and low learning efficiency in self-regulated learning. It follows that, in the post COVID-19 era, online learning puts forward new requirements and challenges to the contemporary students, not only to their learning strategies but positive character traits in learning. Most of the current learning theories were developed in the early 20th century and may not fit in well with the current situation, then possibly leading to inefficient learning and increased learning burden. Therefore, it is necessary and important to reexplore the influencing factors and mechanisms that affect the learning efficiency of students at all levels nowadays, based on which we could construct a theoretical model of efficient learning model.

Download or read book Psychology in Education written by Sidney Leavitt Pressey and published by New York : Harper. This book was released on 1959 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is greatly changed from Psychology and the New Education (1944), by Mr. Pressey and Mr. Robinson-a revision of an earlier book (1933) by Mr. Pressey. Part I attempts a compact summary of our present knowledge regarding growth and development in the first twenty years of life. Part II, devoted to the guidance and fostering of the child's learning, emphasizes the social and emotional aspects of learning. Part III indicates how the teacher can better understand and help both himself and the individual child. By use of subject-matter that is at once diverse and exceedingly rich, the authors forcefully call attention to the interaction among pupil, home, school, and community, and point up the need for the teacher to see every child against the totality of his background. The emphasis throughout is upon the teacher's obligation to stimulate the development of the whole child in his total environment and to make the school an integrated part of community living where learning becomes the basis for social and emotional maturity.
