Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written as a textbook for students of engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). It is designed for the Power Markets course which is part of the Energy and environment masters programme and the recently established international MSc programme in Electric Power Engineering. As the title indicates, it deals with both power system economics in general and the practical implementation and experience from the Nordic market. Some of the subjects covered: Restructuring/deregulation of the power supply system; Grid access including tariffs and congestion management; Generation planning; Market modelling; Ancillary services; Regulation of grid monopolies. Book The Politics and the Economics of Integration in Asia and the Pacific

Download or read book The Politics and the Economics of Integration in Asia and the Pacific written by Shiro Armstrong and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-11-03 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The shape of economic integration in the global and regional economies - and the extent to which goods, services and factors of production move more or less freely across borders - depends not only upon underlying economic conditions but also upon politics. Whether integration is market-led, as has been the case in Asia, or institution-led as in Europe, there are political elements that affect all forms of regional and international economic integration. While geopolitics influences international economic integration, so too does domestic politics. Economic integration in Asia has been driven by rapid unilateral trade and investment liberalization and, while trade and investment patterns have been determined largely by comparative advantage, political forces have also affected patterns of economic interdependence. The form that regional institutions take, and their effectiveness, also depends on political relations between countries. The particular circumstances in Asia, and the relationships between regional economies has profoundly shaped regional institutions and will continue to do so. The chapters in this volume draw on papers originally presented to the 33rd Pacific Trade and Development Conference held in Taipei in 2009 to look in original ways at how politics shape economic integration and its various dimensions in Asia and the Pacific and globally.

Download or read book Antitrust and Monopoly written by Dominick T. Armentano and published by Independent Institute. This book was released on 2014-09-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stated purpose of antitrust laws is to protect competition and the public interest. But do such laws actually restrict the competitive process, harming consumers and serving the special interests of a few politically-connected competitors? Is antitrust law a necessary defense against the predatory business practices of wealthy, entrenched corporations that dominate a market? Or does antitrust law actually work to restrain and restrict the competitive process, injuring the public it is supposed to protect? This breakthrough study examines the classic cases in antitrust law and demonstrates a surprising gap between the stated aims of antitrust law and what it actually accomplishes in the real world. Instead of protecting competition, this book asserts, antitrust law actually protects certain politically-favored competitors. This is an essential work for anyone wishing to understand the limitations and problems of contemporary antitrust actions.

Book The Economics of Speed Machine Speed as the Key Factor in Productivity

Download or read book The Economics of Speed Machine Speed as the Key Factor in Productivity written by Bernard C. Beaudreau and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-07 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to examine the “nuts and bolts” of production processes. It proposes a truly consilient approach to modeling production processes – one that goes beyond the vague principles found in standard economics – and provides details that are consistent with the applied mechanics and engineering literature. Providing a credible analysis of some of the most pressing questions of our era, such as the productivity slowdown and the information paradox, and bridging the gap between engineering, applied physics, economics, and management science, this book is a fascinating read for anyone interested in industry, the modern economy, and how physical factors constrain productivity growth.

Book Great Depression The Its Origins In Acceleration And Electric Unit Drive

Download or read book Great Depression The Its Origins In Acceleration And Electric Unit Drive written by Bernard C Beaudreau and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-01-12 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is part of a new generation of work on the events of the 1920s and 1930s, one that provides a gestalt view of this period. As such, the many events that have until now been viewed as unrelated, are viewed as parts of a greater whole, namely the introduction of a new power drive technology in the form of electric unit drive and its effects. The Roaring Twenties, the spectacular growth of the 1920s, the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, the Stock Market Boom and Crash, the decline in investment expenditure, the ensuing depression and the National Industrial Recovery Act are all shown to be related.
