Book Guide for the Promotion of Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation Regulations in Economies in Transition

Download or read book Guide for the Promotion of Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation Regulations in Economies in Transition written by United Nations. Economic Commission for Europe and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper comes from a project designed to assist central and eastern Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries to enhance their energy efficiency and security, to ease the energy supply constraints of economic transition and to meet international environmental treaty obligations under the UN FCCC and the UN ECE. Reducing the energy efficiency 'gap' by half would save 600 million tones of oil equivalent in year 2010 of which 90 per cent would be fossil fuels. Central and Eastern European economies are half as efficient as those of market economies. This paper, which was produced jointly by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), aims to provide some suggestions for policy makers in the CIS for development of policies and regulatory frameworks for promotion of energy efficiency. The guidelines presented have been discussed and endorsed by the ECE Committee on Sustainable Development at its ninth session, 9-11 November 1999. The impetus for the guidelines was a recommendation made at a 1996 regional seminar on promotion of energy efficiency and institution building in Asian economies in transition conducted by ESCAP with participation by ECE.

Book Energy Modelling Studies and Conservation

Download or read book Energy Modelling Studies and Conservation written by Sam Stuart and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy Modelling Studies and Conservation documents the proceedings of seminar of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe held in Washington D.C., on 24-28 March 1980. The volume begins with a Seminar Theme Paper that identifies background policy issues that lead to modeling; discusses points of view involved in energy policy modeling; defines the context of a set of energy conservation problems or questions being analyzed; and provides a forward-looking view of the subject and its problems. This is followed by 54 papers that are organized into three main topics: (1) energy models of major interest to individual countries; (2) the interaction between energy conservation measures and the economy; and (3) the international aspects of energy conservation models. The papers on Topic 1 cover forecasting methodologies, demand and conservation studies, and electricity and supply studies. The papers on Topic 2 present the experiences in countries such as Norway, UK, the USSR, and US. The papers on Topic 3 include studies on energy conservation policies in France, Germany, and Italy; and the MARKAL multi-period linear programming model for joint research and development in the field of new energy technologies of the 17 countries of the International Energy Agency.

Book Energy in Europe

Download or read book Energy in Europe written by Thomas G. Weyman-Jones and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1986. Energy economics emerged in the 1970s as one of the most controversial and critical aspects of European economic and political development. This book provides a fully comprehensive but easily accessible guide to the key issues of energy policy, placing them in a European context. As well as discussing oil price movements and their effects on European prosperity, it assesses the role of energy conservation and pricing policies. The chapters discuss the economic, political and social impact of nuclear power programmes, North Sea oil and gas discoveries, Soviet gas imports, and coal field closures, and go on to forecast possible future developments. This is for all those concerned with European and energy studies, especially political scientists, geographers, economists, and environmental and resource specialists.

Book The European Energy Challenge

Download or read book The European Energy Challenge written by George Walter Hoffman and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 1985 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By examining all of Europe in a single study, an eminent geographer and expert on European development makes, in this volume, a unique contribution to the understanding of the changing energy relations of the European countries, east and west. The book examines the problem of establishing a reliable energy supply base in western Europe through structural changes and alternate and substitute energy sources. The volume also evaluates western European security problems arising from present and future reliance on Soviet energy and relates this to North Sea supplies of gas and oil, indigenous and import supplies, and nuclear power generation.
