Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New federal and state laws providing tax credits and markets to independent producers of electricity have created widespread interest in the development of small, dispersed power plants using cogeneration processes, waste, or renewable resources. Recent legislation also promotes decentralized electricity production by allowing unregulated, non-util

Book Cogeneration Design Guide

Download or read book Cogeneration Design Guide written by J. A. Orlando and published by American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. This book was released on 1996 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This design guide offers a thorough discussion of the theoretical as well as the practical aspects of a cogeneration system design. A brief discussion of the legal and regulatory aspects is followed by a detailed discussion of the prime movers (reciprocating engines, combustion turbines and steam turbines), heat recovery and electrical recovery equipment. There are two case studies (a hospital and an industrial application) to help illustrate the entire design process. ASHRAE Research Project 737.

Book Cogeneration Management Reference Guide

Download or read book Cogeneration Management Reference Guide written by F. William Payne and published by The Fairmont Press, Inc.. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This master volume provides a compendium of practical information covering the newest technology developments, market trends, new and developing opportunities, regulatory issues, project economics, system integration and management, and risk management. You'll learn the latest trends in public-private partnerships in cogeneration, how to effectively negotiate power sales contracts, the best approaches to securing standby service, and how utilities are using cogeneration as a "value-added" service. You'll find a valuable engineering and economic analysis of thermal energy storage for cogeneration applications, guidelines for optimizing system operation and maintenance, an assessment of the reliability of natural gas powered systems, strategies for enhancing cogeneration economics, and coverage of regulatory issues and environmental permitting. Case histories provide valuable guidance for project planners, developers and engineers.

Book Factors Affecting Industry s Decision to Cogenerate

Download or read book Factors Affecting Industry s Decision to Cogenerate written by Ronald Wayne Hess and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents the results of an analysis of the technical and economic factors that influence an industrial manufacturing firm's decision to engage in cogeneration. The study considers the influence of industry characteristics, fuel costs, and government regulations. In general, cogeneration is a financially attractive option. Electrical power from a cogenerating plant can be produced relatively cheaply and in most cases can be made more cheaply than (1) the current median U.S. industrial rate (approximately 50 mills/kWh), and (2) that possible from a new central station steam plant (40+ mills/kWh). Furthermore, the real, after-tax rate of return for all but a very few of the cases analyzed exceeded 10 percent. The study shows that cogeneration is most financially attractive for industrial plants with large process steam requirements that operate 24 hours a day year-round. However, for small industrial plants with lower load factors, the financial attractiveness of cogeneration is heavily influenced by the level of credit available through the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978.

Book Cogeneration Systems

Download or read book Cogeneration Systems written by E. E. Cooper and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discussions are included of the four broad interrelated categories of factors to consider when evaluating candidate approaches to cogeneration at a site. The categories are technical, economic/financial, legislative/regulatory, and institutional. The inability to resolve difficulties in any area may obviate implementation of cogeneration. Generalized performance curves are presented for cogeneration systems utilizing commercially available steam turbines, diesels, or combustion turbines with heat recovery. A summary is given of federal energy and environmental legislation and regulations currently in effect which impact cogeneration systems. The nature of institutional constraints on implementing cogeneration is also discussed. The potential for cooperative ownership/operation options with utility companies or third party investors is described. The economics of cogeneration is detailed. Finally, steps are listed for proceeding through the categories of factors toward implementation of cogeneration. (Author).
