Book 23 European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering

Download or read book 23 European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering written by Chechet Biliyok and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-06-10 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power generation via natural gas is projected to increase over the next decade. CO2 capture would be required to mitigate the associated emissions. Integrating a capture plant to power plants can be explored via process simulation. Hence, high fidelity models of a natural gas combined cycle power plant and a post-combustion capture plant were built – a 440MW power plant model that is tuned and validated with data from GE’s GateCycle®, and a rate-based capture plant model that is scaled up from a previously validated model. Along with a suitably sized compression train, the plants are integrated for 90% CO2 capture. Net power output is observed to fall by 14%, but cooling water demand increases by 33%. A 40% exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) results in a marginal recovery in output, but also raises cooling water demand further. A redesign of the steam cycle to account for integration would potentially improve performance. Economic analysis is performed via a bottom-up approach. The integrated plant overnight cost is determined to be 45% higher than cost of the power plant without capture, but is only 43% higher with EGR. The cost of electricity also increases by 41% for the integrated plant, but by only 38% with EGR. Lastly, the cost of CO2 avoided is estimated to be €69 per ton of CO2, but reduces to €63 with EGR.

Book Parametric Analysis of an MHD Power Plant with a Steam Turbine Bottoming Cycle

Download or read book Parametric Analysis of an MHD Power Plant with a Steam Turbine Bottoming Cycle written by Robert D. Klett and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sensitivity study was conducted to evaluate the effects of capital investment, fuel costs, operating costs, component lifetimes, component efficiencies, and output decay on the overall plant efficiency and economics of a coal fired magneto hydrodynarnic (MILD) powerplant with a steam turbine bottoming cycle. All analyses were conducted parametrically to establish trends and practical limits for each variable, to locate critical components, and to indicate the improvements needed to make MHD competitive with conventional steam turbine power plants. A mathematical technique was developed for maximizing the average output of any process that has a defined output decay and a fixed overhaul time.

Book Nuclear Science Abstracts

Book excerpt: NSA is a comprehensive collection of international nuclear science and technology literature for the period 1948 through 1976, pre-dating the prestigious INIS database, which began in 1970. NSA existed as a printed product (Volumes 1-33) initially, created by DOE's predecessor, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). NSA includes citations to scientific and technical reports from the AEC, the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration and its contractors, plus other agencies and international organizations, universities, and industrial and research organizations. References to books, conference proceedings, papers, patents, dissertations, engineering drawings, and journal articles from worldwide sources are also included. Abstracts and full text are provided if available.

Book Conversion of Coal Fired Power Plants to Cogeneration and Combined Cycle

Download or read book Conversion of Coal Fired Power Plants to Cogeneration and Combined Cycle written by Ryszard Bartnik and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-28 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conversion of Coal-Fired Power Plant to Cogeneration and Combined-Cycle presents the methodology, calculation procedures and tools used to support enterprise planning for adapting power stations to cogeneration and combined-cycle forms. The authors analyze the optimum selection of the structure of heat exchangers in a 370 MW power block, the structure of heat recovery steam generators and gas turbines. Conversion of Coal-Fired Power Plant to Cogeneration and Combined-Cycle also addresses the problems of converting existing power plants to dual-fuel gas-steam combined-cycle technologies coupled with parallel systems. Conversion of Coal-Fired Power Plant to Cogeneration and Combined-Cycle is an informative monograph written for researchers, postgraduate students and policy makers in power engineering.
