A unique synthesis of the four gospel accounts of the passion and resurrection of Christ is provided in this seamless and elegant narrative account of the Easter events, including every detail mentioned in all four Gospels, but without any unnecessary repetition or distracting references. A chapter is assigned to each of these days to facilitate devotional reading and study during the days leading up to Easter. Two chapters are added on either side of the eight days to round out the story. A study guide is also included. The book invites reader to experience the events of Christ’s passion as they happened, thus fully entering into the drama of the Easter story. Book Confession

    Book Details:
  • Author : Adrienne von Speyr
  • Publisher : Ignatius Press
  • Release : 2017-03-22
  • ISBN : 1621641821
  • Pages : 297 pages

Download or read book Confession written by Adrienne von Speyr and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2017-03-22 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this second edition of her profound book on confession, which theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar calls "one of her most central works", Adrienne von Speyr discusses the moral and practical aspects of this sacrament in great depth. The most complete spiritual treatise on confession ever written, the book covers conversion, scruples, contrition, spiritual direction, laxity, frequency of confession, confessions of religious and lay people, and even confessions of saints. The most intriguing element in von Speyr's understanding of confession, fully developed in this volume, is its trinitarian and christological basis. The Cross is the archetypal confession, and Christian sacramental confession is thus an imitation of Christ in the strict sense. Confession examines the enormous fruitfulness of this dogmatic basis from many perspectives, giving a wealth of suggestions that both the theological expert and the layman will find very helpful. Its practical applicability to one's own confession emerges from every page.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Really Happened? Most reasonably informed Christians are well aware that many of the traditions that surround the Christmas holidays have pagan origins and very little correlation with the actual events as recorded in the Bible. Book On the Via Dolorosa with Christ

Download or read book On the Via Dolorosa with Christ written by Paul Ciholas and published by Mercer University Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After two millennia, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ remain the foundation of Christian faith. No matter how often the story of Easter is told and how much it is explained, we are awed by the inscrutability of God's incarnation in Christ and find ourselves caught up in an event that transcends our understanding and surrounds us in a sea of divine love that belongs to the realm of mystery. These forty mediations invite the reader to reflect on Christ's walk on the Via Dolorosa, the path of suffering that a bruised and exhausted Jesus had to trudge from the place of his condemnation to the site of his crucifixion. It is a sobering journey. It is also a holy path toward God. With the author the reader can walk from sacred place to sacred place and feel the transforming power of the presence of Christ. In this pilgrimage we encounter a tormented Judas, a bewildered peter, a transformed Thomas, and two startled disciples on the road to Emmaus. The passion story leads believers and readers through the tragic disintegration of moral and spiritual claims to a fresh reaffirmation of the promise of transfiguration and resurrection.

Download or read book The Easter Story written by Dawn Simano and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-02-05 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Easter Story is the greatest love story ever told. It's about God's longing and desire to have a relationship with people. There are many obstacles in this story from the time of Jesus's birth to the crucifixion, but God is so passionate and determined to get to the object of His love nothing stops Him. This story is the culmination of the Jesus's life, from His humble beginnings of being born in a manger to being subjected to a criminal's death on a cross. Jesus overcomes betrayal with a kiss from Judas, false accusations from the Sanhedrin, denial by Peter, extreme humiliation by being spat upon and mocked with a crown of thorns, crucifixion, and death for the redemption of mankind. His resurrection, empty tomb, is the final step for Him to make a way for restoration between God and mankind. The reconciliation that was won as a result allows His children new life in Christ and the ability to become "fishers of men." This story intrigues believers and nonbelievers alike and has challenged scholars for decades. Who would go to these lengths and why? We were created to know Him and be known by Him. There is no greater love.

Book Confession

    Book Details:
  • Author : Fr. Paul Farren
  • Publisher : Paraclete Press
  • Release : 2014-03-01
  • ISBN : 1612615988
  • Pages : 82 pages

Download or read book Confession written by Fr. Paul Farren and published by Paraclete Press. This book was released on 2014-03-01 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sacrament of Confession is probably the most talked about sacraments in the Catholic Church, as well as a spiritual practice being revived in many Protestant churches. This book explores the sacrament focusing on the two people who confess – God and the penitent. God is the primary confessor when he confesses his forgiveness for and trust in the one who is celebrating the sacrament. The gift of freedom, the existence of hell, and the role of conscience are discussed at length. Jean Vanier in his foreword says: “Somewhere, along the line, in the history of the Church, people have become more centred upon obedience to laws than upon this relationship with love with a person, with Jesus. This book flows from an understanding of Confession as a meeting of love and as a renewal of friendship.” How that friendship is renewed is explored using the Rite of Penance and St. Peter in the Gospel. This helps us understand what happens in the sacrament and how we can celebrate it. Ultimately, Fr. Paul describes reconciliation as God’s gift to us to express God’s humble forgiveness and his confidence in us and also the place where we take responsibility for our lives.
