Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Thanksgiving Eve, November 1955, I regained consciousness in a hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I was aching all over after a horrifying car wreck. When I asked about my family, I was told they had gone to be with the Lord--my wife, two children, and an unborn child. My first response was to say, "Let me die too." My second response was "Why did God do this?" An old preacher said to me, "Young preacher, you're going to have to wait on the Lord." As I studied the Bible for "wait," I came to Isaiah 40:31. It became my life's verse. "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31). When I took a strong stand against the burning of seven Black churches in our county by the KKK, again I had to wait. They took a contract out on my life in 1968. I was under FBI protection for eighty nights. To soar like eagles is the goal of every Christian according to the Bible. Eagles, bold in nature, majestic in all they do, relentless in endurance and, above all things, breathtaking in flight--and we are to be like them. Wow! Of all the birds God created, the eagle is perhaps the most fascinating. The eagle must exercise the wisdom God has given to him as he chooses a mate, disciplines his children, and fights the many natural foes of his life. It is not coincidence that God would liken his believers to such an amazing creature. Riding lofty thermals to the heavenly heights, how can it be that we were also meant to soar on the wings of faith, prayer, and praise to greater heights of spirituality? Come with this author and take a journey into the mighty eagles' domain, leaving the plains of spiritual mediocrity behind. Come learn what it means to soar with eagles, renewing strength, and being all God desires you to be.

Book You Can Soar Like an Eagle

Download or read book You Can Soar Like an Eagle written by Nell Mohney and published by Dimensions for Living. This book was released on 2004 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not be weary, they will walk and not be faint.(Isaiah 40:31 KJV)The eagle is a majestic bird that represents inspiration and courage. According to my research, it is the only bird that will not try to avoid a storm. Though eagles don't seek out a storm, when one occurs, they hang on until they can soar above it.It occurs to me that some people are like eagles. It isn't that they have no storms or difficulties in their lives; all of us do. What makes them “eagle people” is their tenacious hold on hope. When a storm comes, instead of worrying, they draw upon the inner resources that come from faith to rise above the storm and soar.In this book, we will explore the resources available to us as Christians when storms suddenly appear upon our horizons. Among these resources are the Bible, the revealed Word of God; prayer; worship; and the example and encouragement of Christian friends, family members, co-workers, and neighbors. When we use these God-given resources, we too can “soar like an eagle”!—adapted from the introductionEach chapter includes a key Scripture verse, personal stories and anecdotes, practical and spiritual insights for inspiration and encouragement in weathering the storms of life, and questions for reflection or discussion. Some chapters also include “An Eagle Challenge”—a specific suggestion for implementing a particular principle in your life.

Their star quarterback was out with a season-ending knee injury. Five-time Super Bowl champions the New England Patriots towered over them. But public opinion didn't matter to the Philadelphia Eagles. They believed in each other. The band of Christian brothers on the team believed in the God of the impossible, and they played for an audience of One. The most extensive book to explore the Christian faith shared by many of the team's players, Birds of Pray details the incredible inside story behind the Eagles' capture of the biggest prize in professional sports: the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Through exclusive interviews with the players, never-before-seen photos, and insider accounts of the miracle season's most memorable moments, Philly native and Associated Press sportswriter Rob Maaddi reveals a side of the team the world has yet to fully witness. From an impromptu baptism in the team's cold tub to weekly Bible studies and pre-game prayers, to the unique friendship between star quarterback Carson Wentz and back-up-then-MVP Nick Foles - the Eagles excel in the unexpected. Birds of Pray follows the deep faith shared among players, the high stakes they faced together, and their relentless reliance on Christ who gives all strength in moments of crisis and celebration alike. The result is a boldly inspiring, entertaining read that will challenge readers to go deeper in their faith, dream bigger, and live with renewed courage for whatever odds life stacks against them.

  • Pages : 398 pages

Download or read book Project Eagle written by Robert S. Kim and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert S. Kim contributes to a fuller understanding of Asia in World War II by revealing the role of American Christian missionary families in the development of the Korean independence movement and the creation of Project Eagle, the forgotten alliance between that movement and the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), called Project Eagle. Project Eagle tells the story of American missionaries in Korea from 1884 to 1942. They brought a new religion, modern education, and American political ideals to a nation conquered and ruled by the Japanese Empire. The missionaries' influence inextricably linked Christianity and American-style democracy to Korean nationalism and independence, meanwhile establishing an especially strong presence in Pyongyang. Project Eagle connects this era for the first time to OSS-Korean cooperation during the war through the story of its central figures: American missionary sons George McCune and Clarence Weems and one of Korea's leading national heroes, Kim Ku. Project Eagle illuminates the shared history between Americans and Koreans that has remained largely unexamined since World War II. The legacy of these American actions in Korea, ignored by the U.S. government and the academy since 1945, has shaped the relationship of the United States to both North Korea and South Korea and remains crucial to understanding the future of U.S. relations with both Koreas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible is replete with metaphors and similes that are used in relation to God, Man and things. Basically, the Old and the New Testament of the Bible attest to this fact. In this book, “ The Christian Eagle”, the writer, Rev. Godspower Iweh from his wealth of experiences from both the secular and the sacred uses his linguistic and theological dexterity to unveil the qualities and characteristics and of the Eagle that the Christian should possess. The Author was down to earth in pricking to pieces this outstanding characteristics of the eagle as he juxtaposes them to the Christian life. Systematically, Rev. Iweh places his thoughts in six chapters in this book as challenges to the contemporary Christian. In his first chapter, the author challenges all Christians to discover their identity. In Chapters two and three, the author beckons on all Christians to soar and be a spiritual eagle. Chapter Four focuses on how the eagle goes through a painful process of renewal which the contemporary Christian go through to become better in life. Besides, the Author brings to the fore the wisdom of the eagle in chapter five. Here, he exposes the Seven types of wisdom of the eagle, the four types of wisdom, Eight products of wisdom and eight ways to acquire Divine wisdom. The Last Chapter x-rays how the eagle breaks out of his comfort zone to soar on a higher level. Here, there is a clarion call for all and sundry to come out of their comfort zone to do the needful and soar higher in life. Consequent upon the above, this book, “The Christian Eagle”, is a very comprehensive and well researched work. The book is written in simple and lucid language, making very easy to comprehend. Admittedly, the book is very educative, informative, illustrative, spiritual and devotional. Conclusively, I recommend it for all Pastors, Parishioners, Seminarians, Students, Politicians, Counselors and all who desire to soar like eagles in their pilgrimage here on earth.

He devoted the last 17 years of his life to intense intercession and to penning some of the most perennially popular works about prayer. This attractive volume features the very best of his beloved writings. "God shapes the world by prayer. Prayers are deathless. The lips that uttered them may be closed in death, the heart that felt them may have ceased to beat, but the prayers live before God, and God's heart is set on them and prayers outlive the lives of those who uttered them; they outlive a generation, outlive an age, outlive a world." --from E.M.
