Download or read book A Dying Man s Plea written by Connor C. Quantrell and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-07 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Dying Man’s Plea By: Connor C. Quantrell This literary communication entitled A Dying Man’s Plea, written by Connor C. Quantrell, represents a form of life the author himself experienced while growing up in the Southside of Chicago with his parents in the 1960s and ’70s. One of the book’s characters, named Simon Graves, is an only child who, at the age of ten, began taking on more responsibility to help his parents out financially. He takes on whatever type of work that he could find. After finding his mother passed out in a diabetic coma, young Simon finds more work to help provide for his family. Simon begins working for a man named Canine, who acts as his connection to the world of organized crime. As Simon grows older, his involvement with organized crime grows as well. In a poor society, illegal drugs were an integral or necessary hallucinogenic and in plentiful supply, that worked to deceive or alter one’s actual power of movement. It also influenced the thinking of one’s otherwise contemptible, destitute reality. The general consensus held by most of the poor or unfortunate having little or no means to support themselves was to put complete trust and confidence in God, holding the unquestionable belief that through such faith, God will allow them to triumph from such unearthly poverty. What makes the story all the more interesting and relevant, and what the reader will get by reading A Dying Man’s Plea, is the ability to identify with the struggles of the characters in the story. They relate to the indigenous lifestyles of those that migrate and are born into a drug-filled society of impoverishment under the primitive or savage conditions a city culture manifests and teaches, where there are but a few outlets to a better, more desirable way of living. Though the book centers around actual events, the characters named in the book have been changed to protect the innocence and integrity of individuals the author grew up with.

Book BRE X DEAD MAN S STORY

Download or read book BRE X DEAD MAN S STORY written by Alfred Lenarciak and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1994 and 1997, Canadian-based Bre-X Minerals sponsored and enthusiastically promoted listings on the TSX and NASDAQ by JPMorgan, Lehman, BMO, Scotia as well as others, who were exploring for gold on the Busang property on the Indonesian island of Borneo. Their efforts bore the discovery of a lifetime: a mammoth deposit speculated to contain over 200 million ounces of easily extractable gold. The company's stock exploded from 25 cents to $270, giving them a valuation of over $6 billion. Major mining companies like Barrick, Placer Dome and Freeport McMoran started competing to develop the largest gold deposit ever discovered. In early 1997, Suharto and his Indonesian government took control of the deposit, by force, and commissioned Freeport to build a mega mine. In the ensuing months, due diligence revealed that the deposit was a gigantic hoax! There was no gold in Busang. The principals of Bre-X were accused (but never convicted) of salting (adding gold) the samples before sending them to the labs. Michael de Guzman, a Filipino geologist who served as the project manager, infamously jumped from a helicopter into the abyss of Borneo's jungle. Minorca Resources of Toronto were the financial partners of the Haji Saykerani group of companies who owned Busang. Alfred Lenarciak was the chairman of Minorca at the time. In a strange twist of fate, in February of 2012, Alfred had a chance encounter in Rome, Italy with a man named Akiro Guzzo, who shared with him an amazing story on the life and death of Michael de Guzman: is this really a dead man's story?
