Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: She's eager for every lesson he teaches. Escape into this tempting tale of a reserved scholar and the young, enthusiastic disciple ready to learn everything he has to offer. Aesylt watched her father and brother, along with half their village, massacred by the vengeful king when she was only eight. This violence thrust her into the role of leading their people through the aftermath, until her other brother suddenly returns a decade later to resume the mantle of stewardship, leaving her without a purpose. But then another man enters her life: Duke Rahn Tindahl, a reserved scholar from the king's court who has traveled to their village to help with the ambitious task of creating the first encyclopedia of their kingdom. By the light of an evening fire, Rahn asks Aesylt to be his disciple. With stars in her eyes, she eagerly accepts. Together, they chart the celestial skies, finding shared passion in studying, learning, and friendship. But when their curriculum shifts to a more intimate subject, it shakes the foundation of everything they've built. Determined to forge a path as a scholar, there's nothing Aesylt won't do in the name of their research. Rahn, however, knows there are some boundaries they should never cross. Then Aesylt is publicly accused of using dark magic, and a violent coup forces them to flee to another village, conveniently affording them all the privacy they need. For the science, they whisper, as their illicit research escalates, as they risk everything. Because the forbidden feelings they've been secretly battling have been waiting for just such an opportunity. And not all boxes, once opened, can be closed again. The Duke and the Disciple is an age gap, teacher/student fantasy romance set in the Kingdom of the White Sea Universe, featuring characters first introduced in The Claw and the Crowned. It is the second story in the Sceptre Cycle of The Book of All Things. The final novel in the trilogy is The Tempest and the Tides. The Book of All Things is a series of fantasy romance tales set in the vibrant, epic world first introduced by USA Today Bestselling Author Sarah M. Cradit in the Kingdom of the White Sea trilogy. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the postcolonial era, Arab societies have been ruled by a variety of authoritarian regimes. Focusing on his native Morocco, Abdellah Hammoudi explores the ideological and cultural foundations of this persistent authoritarianism. Building on the work of Foucault, Hammoudi argues that at the heart of Moroccan culture lies a paradigm of authority that juxtaposes absolute authority against absolute submission. Rooted in Islamic mysticism, this paradigm can be observed in the drama of mystic initiation, with its fundamental dialectic between Master and Disciple; in conflict with other cultural forms, and reelaborated in colonial and postcolonial circumstances, it informs all major aspects of Moroccan personal, political, and gender relations. Its influence is so pervasive and so firmly embedded that it ultimately legitimizes the authoritarian structure of power. Hammoudi contends that as long as the Master-Disciple dialectic remains the dominant paradigm of power relations, male authoritarianism will prevail as the dominant political form. "Connecting political domination to gift exchange, ritual initiation, social loyalty, and gender reversals, Master and Disciple is nothing less than a thoroughgoing revision of our understanding of authoritarian rule in Morocco and in the Arab world in general."—Clifford Geertz, Institute for Advanced Study

Book Making Disciples Mentor Guide

Download or read book Making Disciples Mentor Guide written by William H. Willimon and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2018-06-19 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making Disciples is a 13-session mentor-based confirmation program that pairs confirmands with adult mentors and guides them through a variety of learning experiences that will strengthen the student's understanding of the faith while connecting him or her with the community of believers in a personal way. It can be used as a stand-alone program, or in conjunction with your current curriculum as a special experiential unit. This is a confirmation program that is more like a process and less like a reading assignment, more engaging and congruent with the nature of the Christian faith than existing programs. Using an “apprenticeship” approach to confirmation Will Willimon produced a series of learning experiences where adult mentors and confirmands are both teachers and learners at the same time. This time-tested approach has been extensively revised and updated for usage in today’s churches that take seriously Christ’s command to be engaged in disciple making The bulk of the Mentor Guide is exactly the same as the Confirmand's Journal. You are encouraged to work through the activities right along with the confirmands and to complete the activities and writing assignments just as he or she does. By working along with your confirmand you will demonstrate the need to keep learning and growing. Topics explore the basics of Christian faith: •God •Jesus •the Holy Spirit •worship •the Bible •gifts •ministry •baptism •spiritual life •death and resurrection •the church

Book The Disciples at the Lord s Table

Download or read book The Disciples at the Lord s Table written by Gerard Moore and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-06-22 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Disciples at Table! The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is about to enter its third century of worship, evangelism and Christian worship. This book is a snapshot of their Table practice: its origins, forms, prayers, and ecumenical development. Single-minded pioneers and advocates of Eucharistic Table fellowship each Sunday, the Disciples forged a unique experience of worship within the restorationist paradigm. What did this worship look like? A free tradition, explicitly "non-liturgical," these Christian communities were open to the directives of the Scriptures and the inspiration of the Spirit. There were no official texts. Yet there was a plethora of worship books and aids, in effect unofficial texts, operating to guide, inform and develop the Disciples' understanding of the Lord's Table and their worship. For the first time these devotional books have been uncovered and studied, revealing something of the deeper influences behind Disciples practice, the common lines of thought and ritual that unknowingly bind the communities, and the difficulties that have emerged in light of ongoing ecumenical worship and research.

His philosophy emphasized personal and governmental morality, justice, and appropriateness in social relationships. In time these values gained prominence in China over other doctrines, such as Taoism and even Buddhism. His thoughts later developed into a system of philosophy known as Confucianism. Today there remain many mysteries about the actual circumstances of his life, and the development of his influence has yet to be encapsulated for the general reader. But with Michael Nylan and Thomas Wilson’s Lives of Confucius, many mysteries are laid to rest about his historical life, and fascinating details emerge about how his mythic stature evolved over time, right up to the present day.
