Book Perceiving in Depth Volume 2

Download or read book Perceiving in Depth Volume 2 written by Ian P. Howard and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2012-02-24 with total page 643 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 2 addresses stereoscopic vision. It starts with the physiology of stereoscopic mechanisms. It then deals with binocular rivalry, binocular summation, and interocular transfer. A review of how images are brought into binocular register is followed by a review of stimulus tokens used to detect disparities. Cyclopean effects, such as cyclopean illusions, cyclopean motion, texture segregation, and binocular direction are reviewed. Factors that influence stereoacuity are discussed. Two chapters describe how stimuli in distinct depth planes produce contrast effects, and affect motion perception and whiteness perception. The Pulfrich stereomotion effect and perception of motion in depth are reviewed. The volume ends with a review of applications of stereoscopy.

Book Modern Ferrites Volume 2

Download or read book Modern Ferrites Volume 2 written by Vincent G. Harris and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-11-14 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MODERN FERRITES, Volume 2 A robust exploration of the basic principles of ferrimagnetic and their applications In Modern Ferrites: Volume 2, renowned researcher and educator, Vincent G. Harris delivers a comprehensive overview of ferrimagnetic phenomena and discussions of select applications of modern ferrite materials in emerging technologies and applications. Volume 2 explores fundamental properties of ferrite systems, including their structure, chemistry, and magnetism, as well as practical applications, such as permanent magnets; inductors, inverters, and filters; and their use in emerging applications as metamaterials, multiferroics, and biomedical technologies. In addition to the properties of ferrites, the included resources explore the processing, structure, and property relationships in ferrites as nanoparticles, thin and thick films, compacts, and crystals. The authors discuss how these relationships are key to realizing practical device applications laying the foundation for next generation communications, radar, sensing, and biomedical technologies. This volume includes: A comprehensive review of ferrite discoveries and impacts upon ancient cultures, their scientific evolution, and societal benefits; Discussion of the origins of magnetism in ferrimagnetic oxides including superexchange theory, GKA-rules, and recent developments in density functional theory; In-depth examination of ferrite power conversion and conditioning components and their processing as low temperature co-fired ceramics; Ferrite-based electromagnetic interference suppression and electromagnetic absorption; Nonlinear microwave devices; multiferroic and emerging magnetoelectric devices; Biomedical applications of ferrite nanoparticles Perfect for RF engineers and magnetitians working in the fields of RF electronics, radar, communications, and spintronics as well as other emerging technologies. Modern Ferrites will earn a place on the bookshelves of engineers and scientists interested in the ever-expanding technologies reliant upon ferrite materials and new processing methodologies. Modern Ferrites Volume 1: Basic Principles, Processing and Properties is also available (ISBN: 9781118971468).

Book The London Edinburgh and Dublin Philosophical Magazine and Journal of Science Vol 2

Download or read book The London Edinburgh and Dublin Philosophical Magazine and Journal of Science Vol 2 written by Professor of Philosophy Robert Kane and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-13 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The London, Edinburgh, and Dublin Philosophical Magazine and Journal of Science, Vol. 2: July-December, 1876 Now whatever theory we may hold concerning the consti tution of matter, it can scarcely be denied that our ordinary formulae do tell us the weights of those kinds of matter which take part in a given chemical reaction, or of those which result from that reaction. To the principle of the conserva tion of matter the writer already quoted appears to object. He would seemingly refuse his assent unless some one could experimentally prove to him that a given chemical compound has the same composition now that it had a hundred years ago. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The London, Edinburgh and Dublin Philosophical Magazine and Journal of Science The steam-engine having furnished us with a means of converting heat into a motive power, and our thoughts being thereby led to regard a certain quantity of work as an equivalent for the amount of heat expended in its production, the idea of establishing theoretically some fixed relation between a quantity of heat and the quantity of work which it can possibly produce, from which relation conclusions regarding the nature of heat itself might he deduced, naturally presents itself. Already, indeed, have many instructive experiments been made with this view; I believe, however, that they have not exhausted the subject, hut that, on the contrary, it merits the continued attention of physicists; partly because weighty objections lie in the way of the conclusions already drawn, and partly because other conclusions, which might render efficient aid towards establishing and completing the theory of heat, remain either entirely unnoticed, or have not as yet found sufficiently distinct expression. The most important investigation in connexion with this subject is that of S. Carnot. Later still, the ideas of this author have been represented analytically in a very able manner by Clapeyron. Book Reviews Of Accelerator Science And Technology Volume 2 Medical Applications Of Accelerators

Download or read book Reviews Of Accelerator Science And Technology Volume 2 Medical Applications Of Accelerators written by Alexander Wu Chao and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009-12-30 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theme of this volume, “Medical Applications of Accelerators”, is of enormous importance to human health and has a deep impact on our society. The invention of particle accelerators in the early 20th century created a whole new world for producing energetic X-rays, electrons, protons, neutrons and other particle beams. Immediately these beams found revolutionary applications in medicine. There are two important yet distinct medical applications. One is that accelerators produce radioisotopes for various nuclear medicines for millions of patients each year. The other is that accelerators produce particle beams for radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer. The particle beams can be X-rays (generated by high-energy electrons), protons, neutrons or heavy ions such as carbon. Today there are more than 5,000 accelerators routinely used in hospitals all over the world for nuclear medicine and cancer therapy. The great potential of accelerator applications in medicine can hardly be exaggerated. This volume contains 14 articles, all written by distinguished scholars.
