Book excerpt: Buddha said: "The Eight Tribes of Heaven Dragon, Man and Man, all see the Dragon Lady become Buddha." As for the gods, the dragons, the yakshas, the kanda, the asura, the garuda, and the mandara. After the Dragon and Heaven, the most tragic one was Carrolo, because he was Yue Fei's embodiment. Carrolo was a kind of giant bird with all kinds of solemn and precious colors on its wings. Legend has it that Yue Fei was the reincarnation of the Golden Winged Roc, and Jia Luo was the reincarnation of the Golden Winged Roc. When its life ended, the dragons vomited poison and were no longer able to eat. As a result, Garuda flew up and down seven times before finally dying on top of the Vajra Mountain. The complicated plot, ups and downs, locked in a clumsy work, all of this is in the "Heavenly Dragon's Eight Postscript." [Previous Chapter] [Table of Contents] [Next Chapter] Close]

Book Children of the Dragonfly

Download or read book Children of the Dragonfly written by Robert Bensen and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2001-03 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes the losses of childhood can be recovered only in the flight of the dragonfly.Native American children have long been subject to removal from their homes for placement in residential schools and, more recently, in foster or adoptive homes. The governments of both the United States and Canada, having reduced Native nations to the legal status of dependent children, historically have asserted a surrogate parentalism over Native children themselves. Children of the Dragonfly is the first anthology to document this struggle for cultural survival on both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border. Through autobiography and interviews, fiction and traditional tales, official transcripts and poetry, these voicesÑ Seneca, Cherokee, Mohawk, Navajo, and many othersÑ weave powerful accounts of struggle and loss into a moving testimony to perseverance and survival. Invoking the dragonfly spirit of Zuni legend who helps children restore a way of life that has been taken from them, the anthology explores the breadth of the conflict about Native childhood. Included are works of contemporary authors Sherman Alexie, Joy Harjo, Luci Tapahonso, and others; classic writers Zitkala-Sa and E. Pauline Johnson; and contributions from twenty important new writers as well. They take readers from the boarding school movement of the 1870s to the Sixties Scoop in Canada and the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978 in the United States. They also spotlight the tragic consequences of racist practices such as the suppression of Indian identity in government schools and the campaign against Indian childbearing through involuntary sterilization. Book A Sublime Tale of Unnatural Events

Download or read book A Sublime Tale of Unnatural Events written by Maggie Bowcock and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-05-02 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Sublime tale of Unnatural Events. The Internal world of Marjoram Maple is stretched beyond the boundaries of her imagination as she with her brother Jack are caught in a supernatural event brought about by a fiery visitation to their family home. This mythical adventure begins when Jack appears one morning with a strange ring of fire around his head. This fire seems to bring to life and release the energy of inanimate objects including a group of sunflowers that are the subject matter in one of their mother’s (Marigold Maple) paintings. This group of sunflowers leads the two teenagers on a spiritual journey. The main characters are the eccentric Maple family. They have four daughters who are named after botanicals, (Marjoram, Geranium, Rosewood and Lavender) and a son called Jack. Marigold the mother is a painter of flowers and Big Red the father is the local fire chief. It is set in a small mountain village called ‘Wonder’. The story is made up of a series of visual vignettes as they embark on a journey into a heavenly realm and there they meet a series of characters who serve as metaphors for supernatural beings. Intervention by these supernatural beings bring the whole family together in an adventure of mythical proportions where they discover that they have been charged with a mission: to return to their home town of ‘Wonder’ and rescue the dragonflies who are the warrior guardians of the town, and have been taken captive by a deadly ‘shadow’ that is intent on destruction. In their adventure they discover ‘Dandelion,’ a supreme being, who is the source of life on earth. The family is accompanied in their battle by a group of violets from Dandelion’s armed forces, and a host of spiritual beings known as ‘Thingamys.' This story is a celebration of creativity, diversity and moral fortitude against a backdrop of more serious issues that young people face in a sometimes unjust world.
