In this sequel to Adventures of the Eagle Talon Treasure there are a myriad of obstacles facing the brothers on their journey, obstacles they have to solve and conquer through ingenuity. Though, initially seeking some of the treasure for themselves, the brothers soon become embroiled in keeping the treasure out of the hands of King Bjorn, by leaving misleading clues sprinkled about, thereby delaying him with misdirection while they rush to help the villagers relocate and hide the treasure to protect it. About the Author Steve Garthe was born in Seattle, Washington, and resides in Des Moines with his wife, son, and their devoted dog, Cinder. He enjoys spending time in the forest and sitting by the river, where he can listen to the sounds of nature and its surroundings. Walking in the mountains with his family allows him to clear his head and produce new ideas resulting in the addition of new and exciting adventures for his current and upcoming books. As a youngster growing up in different parts of the country, Garthe found himself exploring new places and broadening his imagination while getting himself into trouble while searching for a possible treasure. He developed a passion for adventure due to his explorations and has begun writing novels based on his interests in Templars, hidden riches, and American history. He began writing his first book Adventures of the Eagle Talon Treasure, when he was thirteen. He took a break from it to finish college, broaden his career options, and start a family before continuing with it again in 2020. He told the stories in both books through the eyes of his son Nj, and the series will continue as he has a lot of new adventures to share with the rest of the globe.

Book excerpt: From award-winning author Daniel Fox comes a ravishingly written epic of revolution and romance set in a world where magic is found in stone and in water, in dragons and in men–and in the chains that bind them. Deposed by a vicious usurper, a young emperor flees with his court to the small island of Taishu. There, with a dwindling army, a manipulative mother, and a resentful population–and his only friend a local fishergirl he takes as a concubine–he prepares for his last stand. In the mountains of Taishu, a young miner finds a huge piece of jade, the potent mineral whose ingestion can gift the emperor with superhuman attributes. Setting out to deliver the stone to the embattled emperor, Yu Shan finds himself changing into something more than human, something forbidden. Meanwhile, a great dragon lies beneath the strait that separates Taishu from the mainland, bound by chains that must be constantly renewed by the magic of a community of monks. When the monks are slaughtered by a willful pirate captain, a maimed slave assumes the terrible burden of keeping the dragon subdued. If he should fail, if she should rise free, the result will be slaughter on an unimaginable scale. Now the prisoner beneath the sea and the men and women above it will shatter old bonds of loyalty and love and forge a common destiny from the ruins of an empire.

Book excerpt: Becoming a dragon is a dangerously subtle process. You make a long chain of bad choices. The chain gradually wraps around you. Layer by layer, it begins to take on the aspect of scales. One day you glance at yourself in the mirror and a monster is staring back at you. You aren't who you used to be. You aren't who you want to be. You're not who you were created and designed to be. Instead, you're a dragon. When Jim Burgen was nineteen years old, he realized how easy it had been to become a dragon. He knew he didn't want to be one anymore . . . but how? No More Dragons is the story of our common, hopeful journey from dragonhood back to personhood. As Pastor Burgen narrates the remarkable process of reclaiming himself from himself, he implores modern church goers to shake off the trivialities of churchiness in favor of the substantive questions that make a spiritual transformation: “Is Jesus the only one who can undragon people?” “Why don't I like most churches?” “Where is God in difficult times?” “How do you shed decades of gnarly scales?” Some choices will lead you to a better life. Some will kill you. Some choices will add a new layer of scales to your dragon, and some will slough them off. No More Dragons is about asking Christ to deliver you and learning how to obey him.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The planet Ellerkan is a very confusing place for Susan and her two children, Michael and Jennifer. One moment they are driving back from McDonalds, and the next moment they are in a forest being shot at with laser rifles while being chased by Knights in armour. Susan is rescued by Cameron and Soo-Kai, but despite their help her two children are lost. Jennifer, like Cameron's daughter, is captured by soldiers of the Dragon Prince and taken to the Dragon's Lair Castle. Michael escapes when he runs into Chen-Soo. A friendship quickly forms that will have an important effect on all their lives. At the house of Rolf L'Epine, Susan learns the history of Ellerkan, a history of war and conquest between the Navak and the Androktones, or 'killers of men.' It is a war that once spanned the galaxy, but ended here on Ellerkan. The Androktones and the descendants of the Navak still exist side by side, keeping apart, but killing one another whenever they meet. But that is all ancient history. Today Ellerkan is rent by a bloody civil war, and events soon overtake Susan and her children as feuding Princes, ancient wars and forgotten technology all add confusion and death. Who are the troopers that sneak about the forest? What is it they want, and why did they sabotage a colony ship and then abandon it and it's passengers and crew? Why is it that Rolf fears his own daughter, Chen-Soo? Will Kai-Tai lead the surviving Androktones against them? And what motivates Vin-Ra, the Androktone that now lives in the castle? And why have all the children been taken there? Only one fact is clear. The only way to escape from Ellerkan is through the portal in the Althon Gerail, one of the last of the Twelve Great Ships. But the wreck of the Althon Gerail lies buried beneath the Dragon's Lair Castle, and to rescue their children and reach it, Susan and Cameron must face the Androktones, the troopers, the army of the Dragon Prince, and the horrors that dwell within the ship itself.

Book Fathers and Sons in Cinema

Download or read book Fathers and Sons in Cinema written by Gershon Reiter and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2008-06-02 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Popular American films are replete with story lines which involve the father-son relationship, often as the pivotal conflict or dragon which a hero must overcome to achieve success. Sometimes these conflicts are straightforward; other times they are projections of the central character's unconscious becoming conscious--in essence a modern form of myth. These American "filmmyths" serve as a visual means to project the psyche in an entertaining and easily accessible manner. Focusing on mythic structure, this volume explores 12 popular movies that deal with various aspects of the father-son relationship including the process of becoming a father, absent fathers, the rite of passage, and the turmoil between fathers and adolescents. Films examined include The Wizard of Oz, Back to the Future, Stand By Me, Red River, City Slickers, North by Northwest, E.T. the Extraterrestrial, Field of Dreams, Lone Star, The Lion King, Jurassic Park and The Searchers.
