Book Minimum drag Ducted and Closed Three point Body of Revolution Based on Linearized Supersonic Theory

Download or read book Minimum drag Ducted and Closed Three point Body of Revolution Based on Linearized Supersonic Theory written by Hermon M. Parker and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of the three-point body of revolution that has minimum wave drag, based on linearized supersonic-flow theory, has been solved formally without resort to slender-body approximations. The evaluation of the source-distribution function, as well as the body shape, requires numerical procedures. Complete calculations are made for the special case of a closed body with a given section (the third point) at the mid-body position. The existence of a corner at the third point is found to be characteristic of a linear-theory solution of the minimum-drag three-point problem. The conclusion is reached that the influence between the forward end rearward portions of a closed body results in a small increase in the radii of the minimum-drag shape.

Book The Spanwise Distribution of Lift for Minimum Induced Drag of Wings Having a Given Lift and a Given Bending Moment

Download or read book The Spanwise Distribution of Lift for Minimum Induced Drag of Wings Having a Given Lift and a Given Bending Moment written by Robert T. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of the minimum induced drag of wings having a given lift and a given span is extended to include cases in which the bending moment to be supported by the wing is also given. Expressions for the spanwise load distribution and the minimum drag in terms of the lateral position of the load centroid are given. The results show a 15-percent reduction of the induced drag with a 15-percent increase in span over that for an elliptic loading having the same total lift and bending moment.

Book Wing Theory

Download or read book Wing Theory written by A. Robinson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-09-12 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1956 as part of the Cambridge Aeronautical Series, this book addresses the vital science of wing theory. Robinson and Laurmann record the historic developments in wing theory, including the work of Joukowski and Bernoulli, and discuss developments in supersonic flow and unsteady aerofoil theory. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in the history of the science of flight.
