The ride from Canterbury to Dover is not the least pleasant, though it be the last, of the four divisions of our journey. The road abounds with elegant seats, and the scenery is very agreeably diversified with lofty hills and deep valleys, pretty villages and picturesque churches. At the extremity of Canterbury on the right, is The Paddock, R. Halford, Esq., and Nackington House, W. Delmar, Esq. At about a mile out of Canterbury, a good view may be obtained (on the left) of Hales Place, late the seat of Sir Edward Hales, Bart, but now unoccupied. He covers the effective use of various mediums, including pencil, charcoal, pen, and wash.
