It's supposed to make everything better. What they discover is that their new home in North Scalia holds danger and the deepest kind of intolerance. It starts when Thomas is only seven. His younger sister, Grace, gets a simple cough. In impoverished South Scalia, advanced medical care is scarce, and Grace's cough soon turns into a deadly infection. There is no help for her in South Scalia. Grace's only hope lies across the desert in prosperous North Scalia. Thomas's parents know that they have to do everything they can for their daughter. Surely the inhabitants of North Scalia will not deny a four-year-old girl medical care. With the help of their beloved donkey, Grandma Jan, the Smiths set off across the desert. Their church and community have given all they can to help the Smiths on their quest. Will it be enough? The Smith family's experiences have eerie similarities to the current political climate in the United States. Daniel Washle's cautionary fable reveals the ugly underside of a society that claims to be free and just.

Book excerpt: Between 1940 and 1974, the number of African American farmers fell from 681,790 to just 45,594--a drop of 93 percent. In his hard-hitting book, historian Pete Daniel analyzes this decline and chronicles black farmers' fierce struggles to remain on the land in the face of discrimination by bureaucrats in the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He exposes the shameful fact that at the very moment civil rights laws promised to end discrimination, hundreds of thousands of black farmers lost their hold on the land as they were denied loans, information, and access to the programs essential to survival in a capital-intensive farm structure. More than a matter of neglect of these farmers and their rights, this "passive nullification" consisted of a blizzard of bureaucratic obfuscation, blatant acts of discrimination and cronyism, violence, and intimidation. Dispossession recovers a lost chapter of the black experience in the American South, presenting a counternarrative to the conventional story of the progress achieved by the civil rights movement.

Instead they must raise their family - and a new business in the bustle of the capital. But when a death finally draws them home to Worcestershire, they find the landscape unchanged, but the poverty increased. Amid the smoke of the factories and the clatter of machinery there is also the growing murmur of unrest as the workers search for a way to express their discontent. For Rebecca, Francis and their young family it means being torn between family duty and sympathy for the weavers' plight. Book The Donkey Speaks AGAIN

Download or read book The Donkey Speaks AGAIN written by John Hohl and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How we understand and interpret prophecy ultimately determines how we interpret the rest of the Bible—even how we understand God. Unfortunately, all the currently accepted outlines of how the end-times are portrayed in the Bible contain contradictions. The two major groups—Amillennialism (who reject the theory that Jesus Christ will have a literal, thousand-year-long, physical reign on the earth) and Premillennialism (who believe Jesus Christ will literally and physically return to the earth after taking the Christian believers up to heaven)—each have strong arguments. While the Premillennial view appears to have the most validity, it also has many contradictions mainly rooted in the assumption of a seven-year yet future tribulation before the second coming. The Donkey Speaks Again will help the reader finally understand Bible prophecies and the way the Bible lays them out for us. Key Bible words and phrases are interpreted to allow the reader to overlap singular events depicted within the two separate visions of end-times events (given to Jews in the Old Testament and the Christians in the New Testament) confidently as occurring together on the prophecy timeline. When faced with these truths, the reader will be forced to change the way they understand God, the Bible, and definitely some long-held, but never questioned beliefs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Prophet and the Warrior By: Richard H. Grabmeier The Prophet and the Warrior is historical fiction that follows the Biblical texts of the books of Moses as presented in the King James Bible. This novel enhances the various stories by adding dialogue and expanding the role of various characters. It occasionally diverges from the Biblical text when an alternative context seems more logical to the author. Richard H. Grabmeier’s own religious experience prompted him to read the Bible with a more critical eye.
