Book excerpt: The following dissertation concerning the Trinity, as the reader ought to be informed, has been written in order to guard against the sophistries of those who disdain to begin with faith, and are deceived by a crude and perverse love of reason. Now one class of such men endeavor to transfer to things incorporeal and spiritual the ideas they have formed, whether through experience of the bodily senses, or by natural human wit and diligent quickness, or by the aid of art, from things corporeal; so as to seek to measure and conceive of the former by the latter. Book The Doctrine of the Trinity

Download or read book The Doctrine of the Trinity written by Sir Anthony Buzzard and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important work is a detailed biblical investigation of the relationship of Jesus to the one God of Israel. The authors challenge the notion that biblical monotheism is legitimately represented by a Trinitarian view of God and demonstrate that within the bounds of the canon of Scripture Jesus is confessed as Messiah, Son of God, but not God Himself. Later Christological developments beginning in the second century misrepresented the biblical doctrine of God and Christ by altering the terms of the biblical presentation of the Father and Son. This fateful development laid the foundation of a revised, unscriptural creed that needs to be challenged. This book is likely to be a definitive presentation of a Christology rooted, as it originally was, in the Hebrew Bible. The authors present a sharply-argued appeal for an understanding of God and Jesus in the context of the original Christian documents. Book A New Chain of Plain Argument Deemed Conclusive Against Trinitarianism

Download or read book A New Chain of Plain Argument Deemed Conclusive Against Trinitarianism written by Thomas Worcester and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-18 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A New Chain of Plain Argument, Deemed Conclusive Against Trinitarianism: Addressed to a Trinitarian Writer for the Panoplist, in a Series of Candid Letters Sir, As the following letters will first meet your eye from the press, you will be apprized of the subject of them as soon as you shall have read the title page. May it not then be well for you to call to mind one of the resolutions of the celebrated President Edwards, before you come to any thing of the nature of argument in what I shall offer for your consideration? "I observe," says Mr. Edwards, "that old men seldom have any advantage of new discoveries, because they are fixed in a way of thinking to which they have long been accustomed. I resolved, if ever I come to years, that I will be impartial to hear the reasons of all pretended discoveries, and receive them, if rational, how long so ever I have been used to a different way of thinking." Happy it would be for individuals, happy it would be for the church of God and for society at large, if men in every station of influence would ever act in strict conformity to the foregoing resolution. But Sir, how rarely do men act as Mr. Edward saw that propriety and his own advantage required of him? Do you not at once perceive, that it is not a very easy thing for one in your situation to lay aside all self-interest, prejudice, and prepossessions, so as to consider duly, and weigh impartially, any arguments, which may be offered against the doctrine of the Trinity? After having taken, so deep an interest in the support of such doctrine, representing any departure from it as of the most fatal tendency, must you not have a very uncommon share of self-command to "be impartial" in respect to any reasons, which can be assigned, for not believing that there are three persons in Deity? Ought you not then to take the more pains to prepare yourself to read and consider as your own "advantage," even in this case, may require? For after all the assurance you have felt to the contrary, is it not, at least, possible that a form of words, not found in the bible, and which first came into use in a time when the minds of men were greatly heated by controversy, may at last be found without any solid foundation? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some trinitarians explain the Trinity doctrine by reference to the three main colors united in one rainbow. Others explain how the understanding, the conscience, and the will blending together in one man illustrate the Trinity. Still others compare the Trinity to three lit candles in one room blending into one light. None of these illustrations satisfactorily offer an analogy of how three distinct almighty and eternal beings make one almighty and eternal being. The absolute uni-personality of God is the first principle of the Jewish Scriptures and the New Testament. Trinitarian Christians do not deny that there is one God, but differ as to the absolute unity of God. They speak of the Godhead as a Trinity composed of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Trinitarianism maintains that the term God includes not only the Father, but Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Yet, even the New Testament shows that Jesus was a person as distinct from God as the disciples were distinct from him.

Book The Tyranny of the Trinity

Download or read book The Tyranny of the Trinity written by P.R. Lackey and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2008-07-29 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For 1700 years the Trinity has been considered the cornerstone of Christianity by all mainstream churches. But the Bibles words for God, appearing thousands of times, never mean a triune God. The concept of the Trinity has been taught to churchgoers based solely on implication and inference. The truth is, the Scriptures dont support the doctrine of the Trinity, but it has been indoctrinated into the minds of otherwise intelligent and well-educated Christians and perpetuated as a mystery not meant to be understood. The majority of Christians have not bothered to investigate the doctrine for themselves, and consequently have been duped. Ms. Lackey suggests that far too many Christians attend church with the attitude: Tell me, pastor, what do I believe today? Ms. Lackey expressed her resentment at being accused of being a heretic, not being a Christian, and being condemned to hell because of her strong belief in the human Jesus, the Messiah and Son of God, as opposed to being the one Almighty God. Her strong conviction led her to collaborate with biblical Unitarian authors to create a book that challenges the centuries-old man-made doctrines of the Trinity, the mainstay of ecclesiastical tradition. Ms. Lackey sees the Trinity as blight on the true Christianity taught by Jesus Christ for the benefit of humanity and feels Trinitarian Christians have traded Hebrew theology for Geek mythology with barely a question asked. She further contends that the majority of Christians believe in the Trinity primarily because they are expected to! Not to accept this dogma would place them under condemnation from both their brethren and the clergy. Ms. Lackey invites churchgoers everywhere to consider that they may have been drawn into a thinly veiled polytheism a belief in more than one God. She adamantly contends that Christians must take more responsibility for their beliefs and stop settling for centuries-old, creeds and doctrines as scriptural truth! The cover illustration depicts the agony experienced by Michael Servetus, a brilliant Spanish physician and theologian, who as one of the first Protestants to challenge the Trinity, was slowly burned at the stake in 1553, his book fastened to his thigh, at the instigation of the Protestant reformer John Calvin.

Book The Concept of the Trinity Is Not Biblical

Download or read book The Concept of the Trinity Is Not Biblical written by Allen Nance and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2022-08-26 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Concept of the Trinity Is Not Biblical By: Allen Nance 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us scripture is profitable for doctrine. This Trinity doctrine, though, has extra-biblical origins. Yet, it is one of the most widely taught and accepted doctrines of the Christian church. The oxymoron: God given scripture does not teach the concept, but man uses scripture to teach the concept. The only thing God calls Jesus is “My Son.” The only one Jesus refers to as God is “My Father.” However, Trinity teaching has added the Holy Spirit to the group and calls all three God. The Holy Spirit, The Spirit of Truth, has revealed to Allen the reality of how the Trinity became a Christian doctrine. It was not so when the New Testament scriptures were written. So, how could an erroneous teaching have survived for so many centuries? The revelation of the truth is within. It is time to let go of the rudiments of men and return to God.
