Book The Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrates

Download or read book The Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrates written by Matthew J. Trewhella and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-08-10 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America has entered troubling times. The rule of law is crumbling. The massive expansion of Federal government power with its destructive laws and policies is of grave concern to many. But what can be done to quell the abuse of power by civil authority? Are unjust or immoral actions by the government simply to be accepted and their lawless commands obeyed? How do we know when the government has acted tyrannically? Which actions constitute proper and legitimate resistance? This book places in your hands a hopeful blueprint for freedom. Appealing to history and the Word of God, Pastor Matthew Trewhella answers these questions and shows how Americans can successfully resist the Federal government's attempts to trample our Constitution, assault our liberty, and impugn the law of God. The doctrine of the lesser magistrates declares that when the superior or higher civil authority makes an unjust/immoral law or decree, the lesser or lower ranking civil authority has both the right and duty to refuse obedience to that superior authority. If necessary, the lower authority may even actively resist the superior authority. Historically, this doctrine was practiced before the time of Christ and Christianity. It was Christian men, however, who formalized and embedded it into their political institutions throughout Western Civilization. The doctrine of the lesser magistrates is a historic tool that provides proven guidelines for proper and legitimate resistance to tyranny, often without causing any major upheaval in society. The doctrine teaches us how to rein in lawless acts by government and restore justice in our nation. "Use this sword against my enemies, if I give righteous commands; but if I give unrighteous commands, use it against me." -Roman Emperor Trajan, speaking to one of his subordinates This is the first book published solely addressing the doctrine of the lesser magistrates in over 400 years. Matthew Trewhella is the pastor of Mercy Seat Christian Church. He is a graduate of Valley Forge Christian College. He and his wife, Clara, have eleven children and nine grandchildren, and reside in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. His research and teaching on the lesser magistrate doctrine is reshaping the thinking of Americans. He was instrumental in publishing the Magdeburg Confession in 2012 - the first English translation of the document since it was written in 1550.

The pastors of Magdeburg issued their Confession and Defense of the Pastors and Other Ministers of the Church of Magdeburg on April 13, 1550 AD. Five months after issuing their Confession, Charles V's forces marched on Magdeburg. The people of Magdeburg burned everything outside the city walls and closed the city gates. The siege of Magdeburg had begun."--Cover, page 4.

Book A Plague of Prisons

Download or read book A Plague of Prisons written by Ernest Drucker and published by New Press, The. This book was released on 2013-05-28 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The public health expert and prison reform activist offers “meticulous analysis” on our criminal justice system and the plague of American incarceration (The Washington Post). An internationally recognized public health scholar, Ernest Drucker uses the tools of epidemiology to demonstrate that incarceration in the United States has become an epidemic—a plague upon our body politic. He argues that imprisonment, originally conceived as a response to the crimes of individuals, has become “mass incarceration”: a destabilizing force that damages the very social structures that prevent crime. Drucker tracks the phenomenon of mass incarceration using basic public health concepts—“incidence and prevalence,” “outbreaks,” “contagion,” “transmission,” “potential years of life lost.” The resulting analysis demonstrates that our unprecedented rates of incarceration have the contagious and self-perpetuating features of the plagues of previous centuries. Sure to provoke debate and shift the paradigm of how we think about punishment, A Plague of Prisons offers a novel perspective on criminal justice in twenty-first-century America. “How did America’s addiction to prisons and mass incarceration get its start and how did it spread from state to state? Of the many attempts to answer this question, none make as much sense as the explanation found in [this] book.” —The Philadelphia Inquirer

Book Raising Godly Children in a Godless Age

Download or read book Raising Godly Children in a Godless Age written by Rusty Thomas and published by . This book was released on 2019-01-25 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The God ordained family is the building block of a sound and just society. As goes the family, so goes the nation. In recent years, the American family has suffered major setbacks and continual blows from iniquitous governmental decrees along with a hearty amen from an immoral culture. Governments opposed to God have always incorporated sexual immorality to pacify citizens to gain more control over their fleeting lives. Every good statist (Those who promote the state as god) knows to gain more power, they must of necessity weaken the family. This godless agenda is one of the major reasons why America is swiftly moving from a free nation to a socialist nation under our watch.Seeing the writing on the wall, Rev. Rusty Lee Thomas, in his new book, Raising Godly Children in a Godless Age, issues a clarion call to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear. The call is to consciously come back to the God of the Bible and rebuild our families on the solid foundation of His Word. Our nation is out of order and is spinning out of control. The sexual confusion plaguing our young is directly tied to feminization of masculinity and the masculinization of femininity. By laying a strong foundation of theology and Biblical doctrine, Rev. Thomas provides the practical helps necessary for families to Raise Godly Children in a Godless Age.
