Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever questioned why Christianity is so hard at times, or why those on the other side of the fence look like they're having so much more fun? Have you ever wondered how much you could get away with, and still go to heaven? If so, you've come to the right place! There's nothing to hide--we all think like this at some point or another. The DNA of a Christian Soul mirrors the poetic rhythms of the Psalms. Its language will resonate with your soul, transforming the holy of holies into something digestible, tangible, and relatable, and giving a voice to the often-unspoken frustrations and bewilderments of the Christian life. It articulates the thoughts you thought only you had, allowing your mind to finally exhale as you realize that other Christians find this hard, too. It gives you the blessing to forgive yourself, plus the tools to move on and unravel what is divine and unique about you. It will challenge and excite you, but, above all else, it will give you permission to be your God-given self and to live the life Christ died to give you. Endure and enjoy! Book Whatever Happened to the Soul

Download or read book Whatever Happened to the Soul written by Warren S. Brown and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 1997-12-01 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As science crafts detailed accounts of human nature, what has become of the soul? This collaborative project strives for greater consonance between contemporary science and Christian faith. Outstanding scholars in biology, genetics, neuroscience, cognitive science, philosophy, theology, biblical studies, and ethics join here to offer contemporary accounts of human nature consistent with Christian teaching. Their central theme is a nondualistic account of the human person that does not consider the "soul" an entity separable from the body; scientific statements about the physical nature of human beings are about exactly the same entity as are theological statements concerning the spiritual nature of human beings. For all those interested in fundamental questions of human identity posed by the present context, this volume will provide a fascinating and authoritative resource.

Book Abundant Life for Your Spirit Soul and Body

Download or read book Abundant Life for Your Spirit Soul and Body written by Trevor Bartley and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-03-29 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our opening verse for this book is from John 10:10b, I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). The Greek word used here for life is zo. So we can conclude that Jesus came to show us how to have and enjoy the god kind of life. As a born-again believer you have been recreated and given a new life code (or DNA) to live by, and Jesus came to show us how to live that new creation reality here on earth. The Bible tells us in John 3:16, For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He (even) gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. Then in Romans 6:23 it tells us, For the wages which sin pays is death, but the bountiful free gift of God is eternal (the god kind of) life through and in union with Jesus Christ our Lord. This eternal life he came to give us is the very nature of God. In John 1:4 we can get a better understanding of what this life will do for us: In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men. One of the meanings for light in the dictionary is a state of understanding or awareness. So we could read this verse like this: in him was the god kind of life, and the god kind of life was the state of understanding and awareness for men. Let us live out of the zo kind of life and determine to be led by the spirit of God in all that we do so we can live in the actual abundance of God. Amen.

Book The DNA Mystique

  • ISBN : 0472025074
  • Pages : 317 pages

Download or read book The DNA Mystique written by Dorothy Nelkin and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2010-02-01 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The DNA Mystique is a wake-up call to all who would dismiss America's love affair with 'the gene' as a merely eccentric obsession." --In These Times "Nelkin and Lindee are to be warmly congratulated for opening up this intriguing field [of genetics in popular culture] to further study." --Nature The DNA Mystique suggests that the gene in popular culture draws on scientific ideas but is not constrained by the technical definition of the gene as a section of DNA that codes for a protein. In highlighting DNA as it appears in soap operas, comic books, advertising, and other expressions of mass culture, the authors propose that these domains provide critical insights into science itself. With a new introduction and conclusion, this edition will continue to be an engaging, accessible, and provocative text for the sociology, anthropology, and bioethics classroom, as well as stimulating reading for those generally interested in science and culture.

Dan Lawson, a former government cyber-intelligence analyst, is surprised to be contacted by his estranged friend Stephen Bishop, a renowned geneticist. Stephen says that he's discovered amazing information within DNA, including evidence of a creator, and needs Dan's help to protect his findings. Dan is skeptical and wonders whether he is being manipulated, or if the recent illness of Stephen's only child, Ava, has caused his childhood friend to fall back on religion for answers to questions best left to science. Spurred by his desire for proof that life has meaning, however, Dan puts aside his doubts and agrees to help. When an experiment goes terribly awry, Dan realizes he must get to the bottom of Stephen's discoveries. With the help of Trish Alighieri, a pediatric oncologist trying to save Ava's life, Dan desperately searches for answers--including whether the human soul can survive science's conquest of nature"--

Download or read book Adam and the Genome written by Scot McKnight and published by Brazos Press. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genomic science indicates that humans descend not from an individual pair but from a large population. What does this mean for the basic claim of many Christians: that humans descend from Adam and Eve? Leading evangelical geneticist Dennis Venema and popular New Testament scholar Scot McKnight combine their expertise to offer informed guidance and answers to questions pertaining to evolution, genomic science, and the historical Adam. Some of the questions they explore include: - Is there credible evidence for evolution? - Do we descend from a population or are we the offspring of Adam and Eve? - Does taking the Bible seriously mean rejecting recent genomic science? - How do Genesis's creation stories reflect their ancient Near Eastern context, and how did Judaism understand the Adam and Eve of Genesis? - Doesn't Paul's use of Adam in the New Testament prove that Adam was a historical individual? The authors address up-to-date genomics data with expert commentary from both genetic and theological perspectives, showing that genome research and Scripture are not irreconcilable. Foreword by Tremper Longman III and afterword by Daniel Harrell.

Book Scientific Evidence of the Christian Faith DNA the Starting Point

Download or read book Scientific Evidence of the Christian Faith DNA the Starting Point written by Victor W. Chang, Guoping Song and published by Samuel Chang. This book was released on 2020-07-04 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does the Christian faith have scientific evidence? This is difficult to believe. However, since DNA was discovered, we now understand the entire DNA coding sequence of humans is consistent and the difference is only one-thousandth. The theory of mathematics-probability tells us that it could not be the result of spontaneous generation. Therefore, the molecular biologist put forward that people of the whole world have the common grandfather- Y chromosome Adam theory; and the common grandmother-Eve theory. Do you agree? What is amazing is that there is no difference between man’s and woman’s 2.9 billion chromosomal DNA coding sequence, meaning that human DNA coding is from one individual. Only men have the complete set of the chromosome, so the source individual must be a man and the first woman was from the man. The first man had no carnal parents and it only could be Adam created by God. Due to the constancy of biological genome DNA coding, it is impossible for any species to have an evolution connection, not even microevolution. This is what is recorded in the Bible as “all living from each category”. It, therefore, can be seen that life’s DNA coding sequence is from God’s Creation. From our DNA, we could see that all the substances and lives in the universe are created by God. These scientific facts are totally consistent with the Biblical record and are objective evidence of the Christian faith.

Book Body Soul

  • Publisher : InterVarsity Press

  • ISBN : 0830874593

Download or read book Body Soul written by J. P. Moreland and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2009-09-20 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While most people throughout history have believed that we are both physical and spiritual beings, the rise of science has called into question the existence of the soul. Many now argue that neurophysiology demonstrates the radical dependence, indeed, identity, between mind and brain. Advances in genetics and in mapping human DNA, some say, show there is no need for the hypothesis of body-soul dualism. Even many Christian intellectuals have come to view the soul as a false Greek concept that is outdated and unbiblical. Concurrent with the demise of dualism has been the rise of advanced medical technologies that have brought to the fore difficult issues at both edges of life. Central to questions about abortion, fetal research, reproductive techologies, cloning and euthanasia is our understanding of the nature of human personhood, the reality of life after death and the value of ethical or religious knowledge as compared to scientific knowledge. In this careful treatment, J. P. Moreland and Scott B. Rae argue that the rise of these problems alongside the demise of Christian dualism is no coincidence. They therefore employ a theological realism to meet these pressing issues, and to present a reasonable and biblical depiction of human nature as it impinges upon critical ethical concerns. This vigorous philosophical and ethical defense of human nature as body and soul, regardless of whether one agrees or disagrees, will be for all a touchstone for debate and discussion for years to come.

Book The Soul of Science

Download or read book The Soul of Science written by Nancy Pearcey and published by Crossway. This book was released on 1994 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I consider The Soul of Science to be a most significant book which, in our scientific age, should be required reading for all thinking Christians and all practicing scientists. The authors demonstrate how the flowering of modern science depended upon the Judeo-Christian worldview of the existence of a real physical contingent universe, created and held in being by an omnipotent personal God, with man having the capabilities of rationality and creativity, and thus being capable of investigating it. Pearcey and Thaxton make excellent use of analogies to elucidate difficult concepts, and the clarity of their explanations for the nonspecialist, for example, of Einstein's relativity theories or of the informational content of DNA and its consequences for theories of prebiotic evolution, are quite exceptional, alone making the volume worth purchasing." --Dr. David Shotton, Lecturer in Cell Biology, Department of Zoology, University of Oxford "Pearcey and Thaxton show that the alliance between atheism and science is a temporary aberration and that, far from being inimical to science, Christian theism has played and will continue to play an important role in the growth of scientific understanding. This brilliant book deserves wide readership." --Phillip E. Johnson, University of California, Berkeley "This book would be an excellent text for courses on science and religion, and it should be read by all Christians interested in the relationship between science and their theological commitments." --J.P. Moreland, Professor of Philosophy, Talbot School of Theology, Biola University
