Book The Divine Origin and Authority of the Bible Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Divine Origin and Authority of the Bible Classic Reprint written by James H. Scates and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Divine Origin and Authority of the Bible Believing that a small work, setting forth in simple language some of the evidences of the divine origin and authority of the Bible would be acceptable to the masses of the people and would be read with interest and profit by them, I have written the present work. It is not a com pilation, but almost an exclusively original com position, presenting new arguments and eviden ces not'to be found elsewhere. Vast efforts are being made by professed scientists and infidels to undermine the Bible, and thus overthrow the Christian faith. But all their efforts will prove futile and vain. They will only pull down de struction upon themselves, while the Book will stand, as it has always stood, all the wrath of men and the malice of devils. You must not suppose that this is all that can be said in de fense of the Bible. It is a very meager sketch. It is not the thousandth part. Volumes upon V01 umes might be written without exhausting it. Evidences of Christianity have been written oftentimes by profoundly able and scholarly men, but th'e evidences (that is all the evi deuces) have never. Been written, and never can be written, for they sweep the universe. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Along some such line as that we propose to set forth the evidence - so far as that can be done within strict limits - that the Bible is the lord of God. In reply to the ques tion before us, we give a threefold answer, namely, It Seems to Be; It Claims to Be; and, It Proves to Be. Book excerpt: Excerpt from From Eden to Eden: A Historic and Prophetic Study The reader will not find in this book any effort to prove that the Bible is inspired, and that it is the word of God. It is the office of the Scriptures themselves to convince of their own origin and authority. To those who read them reverently not a word is needed to prove that they are divine; while to those who do not read them, or who read them carelessly and without reverence, no, manner or amount of proof can be given that can cause them to realize their divinity, their importance, or their beauty. To be appreciated, the Bible must be studied with an earnest desire to learn the truth. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Evolution of Christianity: Or Origin, Nature, and Development of the Religion of the Bible Believers in Christianity usually appeal to the Bible as the source of authority for their religion. Such appeal is all that is essential wherever the di vine Authorship of the Bible is recognized. In the present work, however, I have dealt with the subject of revealed religion from the standpoint of man's moral and mental necessities, showing his need of divine illumination, ' and arriving at the conclu sion that christianity is the only religion adapted to his requirements and must therefore be the true religion and the only successful religion for the moral elevation and redemption of man kind. Contrasted with all other forms of religion, Christianity, because of its beautiful nature and marvelous. Success, is in a class by itself, thus clearly demonstrating the fact that it proceeded from a source higher than human. Download or read book The People of God Vol 1 of 2 written by Harold F. Hamilton and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The People of God, Vol. 1 of 2: An Inquiry Into Christian Origins The first of these two volumes deals with the authority of the Old Testament and its religion; the second with the origin of the Church and the ministry. It may, perhaps, be asked why two subjects so distinct from each other are not treated in two separate books. The answer is, because both are included in an account of The first of these two volumes deals with the authority of the Testament and its religion; the second with the origin of the Church and the ministry. It may, perhaps, be asked why two subjects so distinct from each other are not treated in two separate books. The answer is, because both are included in an account of Christian origins as organic parts of a single whole. This will be most readily seen if I state here the central position which links the two extremes together. Jesus, it is agreed by all, freed men from the burden of the Jewish Law. But how, and in what sense? If He freed any one, He freed the Jews of His own day. And they believed they were bound to the Law as to an ordinance supernaturally given by God Himself. Jesus, then, could have freed them only in one or other of two ways. Either, He taught them that the Law had never been supernaturally revealed, and that therefore they need no longer consider themselves to be under any obligation towards it; or else, He shared their belief in the supernatural authority of the Law and delivered men from it by claiming to be endowed by God with a similar supernatural authority to annul the Old and inaugurate a New Covenant. It will be seen in Chapter VIII of this volume that the latter alternative alone is in accordance with the facts of history. Perhaps the strongest objection to ascribing to Jesus a belief in the Law as a supernatural revelation lies in the fact that, at first sight, it seems impossible to harmonize such a belief with the result of modern scientific criticism of the Old Testament.
