Book excerpt: Our world is out of balance; so far out of balance we've almost forgotten there was ever an alternative. We know the age-old story of oppression of the Goddess in favour of a patriarchal force, and the ways that same story has played out over the centuries and generations to impact upon all those who identify as women. But what if we were to step back from that story and look at the ways it plays out more broadly too and how we - and our planet - are suffering as a result. Divine Feminism invites us to look deeper at this inequality, and consider the ways that all things considered "feminine" have been treated as less than over the centuries and generations. This book is your invitation to reconnect with those aspects within and for ourselves and the world; to find the sacred balance and flow that lies beyond the dualities society has inflicted upon us and allow them to bring you not only back to yourself, but to a life that helps you remind the world there is another way. Ceryn Rowntree is a Therapist, Coach and host of the Divine Feminist podcast. A practicing witch and medium, she lives with her dog Kali in Northumberland, UK and is never happier than when the two of them are walking in the woods together.

Book excerpt: Honorable Mention for the Wallace K. Ferguson Prize from the Canadian Historical AssociationChosen by Choice Magazine as an Outstanding Academic Title of 2003 In 1891, newspapers all over the world carried reports of the death of H. P. Blavatsky, the mysterious Russian woman who was the spiritual founder of the Theosophical Society. With the help of the equally mysterious Mahatmas who were her teachers, Blavatsky claimed to have brought the "ancient wisdom of the East" to the rescue of a materialistic West. In England, Blavatsky's earliest followers were mostly men, but a generation later the Theosophical Society was dominated by women, and theosophy had become a crucial part of feminist political culture. Divine Feminine is the first full-length study of the relationship between alternative or esoteric spirituality and the feminist movement in England. Historian Joy Dixon examines the Theosophical Society's claims that women and the East were the repositories of spiritual forces which English men had forfeited in their scramble for material and imperial power. Theosophists produced arguments that became key tools in many feminist campaigns. Many women of the Theosophical Society became suffragists to promote the spiritualizing of politics, attempting to create a political role for women as a way to "sacralize the public sphere." Dixon also shows that theosophy provides much of the framework and the vocabulary for today's New Age movement. Many of the assumptions about class, race, and gender which marked the emergence of esoteric religions at the end of the nineteenth century continue to shape alternative spiritualities today.

Book excerpt: "The scholarship in this book is superior, revealing a depth of insight and a scope of knowledge possible only from a scholar who has lived with the concerns of feminist theology for decades. Ruether is a gifted storyteller, and lucidly translates complex ideas and debates. This work is of the highest importance, and Ruether asks the right questions at the right time. The text is groundbreaking."—Nancy Pineda-Madrid, Saint Mary's College of California "Ruether has provided a valuable introduction to an important feminist topic: what can we know about sacred female imagery in Western culture? She guides us through contemporary feminist scholarship, providing engaging narrative, and venturing her own interpretations. Ruether calls for feminists to move beyond divisions created by our different interpretations of prehistory and work together towards our common project of a more peaceful, just, and ecological world."—Carol Hepokoski, Meadville Lombard Theological School

Book The Divine Feminine Tao Te Ching

Download or read book The Divine Feminine Tao Te Ching written by Rosemarie Anderson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: • Restores the feminine essence of the Tao Te Ching as well as the simplicity and poetic undertones of the chapters • Offers commentary for each of the 81 chapters and key Chinese characters to reveal their profound wisdom • Translated from ancient silk and bamboo slip manuscripts, the oldest known copies of the Tao Te Ching • Paper with French flaps In this book, Rosemarie Anderson shares her discoveries of the Divine Feminine Tao alongside her original translation of the Tao Te Ching. Working from ancient silk and bamboo slip manuscripts, the oldest known copies of the Tao Te Ching, the author slowly translated all 81 chapters over the course of two years, allowing each section to reveal its intimate poetic and spiritual nature. To her surprise, she discovered that the Tao was unmistakably feminine, consistently referred to as “mother,” “virgin,” and the “womb” of creation. Anderson explains how the Tao is a feminine force, the Dark Womb of Creation, the Immortal Void renewing life again and again in ordinary times and in times of crisis. She offers commentary for each of the 81 chapters to help reveal their profound wisdom. The author also restores the chapters’ simplicity and musical undertones, explaining how, in the original Chinese manuscripts, the text is poetic and rhymed because the Tao Te Ching was often recited or sung--yet most English translations are written in scholarly prose with long sentences and complex syntax. She shows how the great Tao’s message of wei wu wei--“act without acting” and “do without doing”--offers a path of peace and well-being for ourselves and for our relationships with others and the earth, a path that arises from spontaneous action that seeks no gain for the self. Capturing the original feminine nature of this ancient text, Anderson’s translation sheds new light on the esoteric wisdom contained within the Tao Te Ching and on the mystical feminine essence of the Tao.

Book The Dance of the Dissident Daughter

Download or read book The Dance of the Dissident Daughter written by Sue Monk Kidd and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2006-12-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I was amazed to find that I had no idea how to unfold my spiritual life in a feminine way. I was surprised, and, in fact, a little terrified, when I found myself in the middle of a feminist spiritual reawakening." ––Sue Monk Kidd For years, Sue Monk Kidd was a conventionally religious woman. Then, in the late 1980s, Kidd experienced an unexpected awakening, and began a journey toward a feminine spirituality. With the exceptional storytelling skills that have helped make her name, author of When the Heart Waits tells her very personal story of the fear, anger, healing, and freedom she experienced on the path toward the wholeness that many women have lost in the church. From a jarring encounter with sexism in a suburban drugstore, to monastery retreats and to rituals in the caves of Crete, she reveals a new level of feminine spiritual consciousness for all women– one that retains a meaningful connection with the "deep song of Christianity," embraces the sacredness of ordinary women's experience, and has the power to transform in the most positive ways every fundamental relationship in a woman's life– her marriage, her career, and her religion. This Plus edition paperback includes a recent interview with the author conducted by the book's editor Michael Maudlin.

Book Mary Magdalene and the Divine Feminine

Download or read book Mary Magdalene and the Divine Feminine written by Elizabeth Clare Prophet and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2020-08-17 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What was Jesus’ relationship with Mary Magdalene? What did he teach about the role of women? Is God only male? Mary Magdalene and the Divine Feminine explores these questions and much more as it unfolds Jesus’ liberating teaching on Woman and on the true nature and destiny of the soul—teaching that has been lost for thousands of years. With detailed research and penetrating insight, Elizabeth Clare Prophet shows that Jesus actually broke with the tradition of his time and brought a revolutionary and freeing message for women that was later suppressed. She talks about why early Christian leaders denied Jesus’ message on reverence for Woman and on the inner feminine potential of both man and woman. She also reveals the true relationship of Jesus and Mary Magdalene and why the concept of original sin, which was not part of Jesus’ original teachings, was invented. In these pages, you will also explore the principle and role of the Mother and the Divine Feminine in East and West from ancient times through the teachings of the Hindus, Hebrews, Christians, Gnostics and others. And you will come to see how the story of Mary Magdalene is representative of our own soul’s journey and holds valuable keys for your personal spiritual growth and awakening."

Book Re imagining the Divine

Download or read book Re imagining the Divine written by Laurel C. Schneider and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religious feminism is at an impasse. Those offering new images and metaphors for the divine have been hit with a backlash - along with charges of heresy, idolatry, and self-aggrandizement. Laurel Schneider's provocative solution is to investigate just how the plethora of divine images are indeed disclosive of divinity. In place of a strict monotheism, she constructs a monistic polytheism, arguing persuasively that this approach solves more problems than trinitarianism does.

Book Jailbreaking the Goddess

Download or read book Jailbreaking the Goddess written by Lasara Firefox Allen and published by Llewellyn Worldwide. This book was released on 2016-07-08 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jailbreaking the Goddess is a revolutionary revisioning of the feminine divine. Where the maiden, mother, crone archetypal system is tied to female biology and physical stages of life, the fivefold model liberates the female experience from the shackles of the reproductive model. In a woman's lifetime, she will go through several different cycles of beginnings, potential, creation, mastery, and wisdom. This fivefold model is not an adaption of the threefold. It is a new system that embraces the powerful, fluid nature of the lived experience of women today. Join Lasara Firefox Allen as she explores the nature of the five archetypes; gives examples of what areas of life each might preside over; lists goddesses that fit within each archetype; suggests ways to begin building relationship with the different archetypes; and provides simple rituals for recognition, transition, and invocation. Praise: "Jailbreaking the Goddess is an important contribution to the writings on Goddess tradition and feminist spirituality...I love her political savvy, her sensitivity around issues of diversity and cultural awareness and appropriation, and her unabashed celebration of pleasure, sensuality, and life!"—Starhawk "This fiercely inspired body of work is art, theory, and passion. Genius."—Rosa De Anda, from her foreword "Lasara Firefox Allen delves deep into the ways in which colonialist language has shaped our experience of the divine feminine...This is an innovative work that has the potential to change the face of modern feminist spirituality."—Suzanne Sterling, founder of Voice of Change
