Book The Distributed Interactive Simulation DIS Lethality Communication Server Volume I Overview

Download or read book The Distributed Interactive Simulation DIS Lethality Communication Server Volume I Overview written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new approach to handling battle simulation lethality is presented. In this approach, a single vulnerability/lethality server provides standard distributed interactive simulation (DIS) damage states to entities fast enough for most real-time applications. Benefits include DIS simulations being freed from the burden of maintaining damage state tables and DIS exercises being easier to configure as a whole. A DIS software implementation is freely available by contacting the author.

Book Credible Uses of the Distributed Interactive Simulation DIS System

Download or read book Credible Uses of the Distributed Interactive Simulation DIS System written by James A. Dewar and published by RAND Corporation. This book was released on 1995 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) system is an ambitious effort to take advantage of the tools of the information age to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the U.S. military services. Defined broadly, the DIS system is an infrastructure for linking simulations, simulators and live military systems of various types from any of the U.S. military services at multiple locations to create realistic, complex, virtual 'worlds' for the simulation of highly interactive activities. It poses serious challenges in the areas of technology, interservice coordination, and verification, validation, and accreditation (VV&A). This report concentrates on the validation challenge and presents a framework that encompasses all of the potential uses of the DIS system. It then illuminates the validation or credibility requirements for each type of use. Because of the breadth of the potential uses of DIS, the resulting framework is general enough to address any military application of models and simulations.

Book Vulnerability Lethality Server High Level Architecture HLA Interface Control Document

Download or read book Vulnerability Lethality Server High Level Architecture HLA Interface Control Document written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) vulnerability/lethality table look-up server has gone through several iterations of development since first introduced in 1997 introduced in 1997 (then as the distributed interactive simulation DIS lethality communications server). These development iterations represented migration from its original transmission control protocol/internet protocol client/server communication form based in DIS, to combined DIS-high level architecture (HLA) form used during the 2001 Research, Development, and Engineering Center (RDEC) Federation "CalEx" (calibration experiments) and onto this current form that is all HLA and was designed for the RDEC command "1stApp" (First Application) experiment 2003 and presented in this report. This interface control document (ICD) describes the current state of exposed interface control components of the ARL vulnerability/lethality table look-up server (the server). The ICD describes the interface to an existing implementation of the server (with its look-up table capability). The interface described in this report includes an area that provides for further expansion, allowing delivery of damage descriptions from near real-time physics-based vulnerability modes (future dynamic calculation capability).

Book Credible Uses of the Distributed Interactive Simulation DIS System

Download or read book Credible Uses of the Distributed Interactive Simulation DIS System written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) system is an ambitious effort to take advantage of the tools of the information age to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the U.S. military services. It involves serious challenges in the areas of technology, interservice coordination, and verification, validation and accreditation (VV & A). The U.S. Army TRADOC Analysis Center (TRAC) has lead responsibility among the services for VV & A of the DIS system. As part of that responsibility, TRAC is sponsoring four efforts aimed at exploring the issues of VV & A of DIS. This report documents one of those four efforts commissioned by the TRAC Director, Mr. Michael Bauman, and is intended to take advantage of previous work done at RAND on exploratory modeling and on validation of models and simulations. The research was conducted in the Force Development and Technology Program of PAND's Arroyo Center, a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the United States Army. The intent of this work is to develop a framework that encompasses all of the potential uses of the DIS system and illuminates the validation or credibility requirements for each type of use. Because of the breadth of the potential uses of DIS, the resulting framework is general enough to address any military application of models and simulations. As such, it should be useful not only to the DIS community, but to developers, users, and consumers of models and simulations throughout the military services.

This book was released on 2011-12-31 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design of various virtual environments should be based on the needs of a diverse population of users around the globe. Interface design should be user centric and should strive for making the user's interaction as simple, meaningful, and efficient as possible. User Interface Design for Virtual Environments: Challenges and Advances focuses on challenges that designers face in creating interfaces for users of various virtual environments. Chapters included in this book address various critical issues that have implications for user interface design from a number of different viewpoints. This book is written for professionals who want to improve their understanding of challenges associated with user interface design issues for globally-dispersed users in various virtual environments.

Book Distributed Interactive Simulation From DIS to HLA Gedistribueerde Interactieve Simulatie Van DIS Naar HLA

Download or read book Distributed Interactive Simulation From DIS to HLA Gedistribueerde Interactieve Simulatie Van DIS Naar HLA written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this report an outline is given of the ongoing developments of distributed simulation and its standardisation for interoperability of simulations. It highlights the High Level Architecture (HLA) initiative of the DoD DM50, with its base module, the Run-Time Infrastructure (RTI), which provides for communication between simulation applications. It also discusses the Real-time Platform-level Reference Federation Object Model (RPR-FOM), a proposal for a data standardisation for DIS-like, real-time, human-in-the-loop physical platform simulation in HLA. Finally the Advanced Simulation Framework (ASF) is presented. The ASF is a software infrastructure for the development of distributed simulation applications and provides for a smooth transition from DIS to HLA by shielding the application developer from the underlying distributed simulation standards through a generic application programmer's interface.
