Book THE DIMENSIONALITY OF NATIONS PROJECT

Download or read book THE DIMENSIONALITY OF NATIONS PROJECT written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of conflict behavior in both the dyadic and bynation level for 1950 delineated 3 factors of conflict behavior. In contrast to 1955 and 1963, conflict patterns for 1950 suggest that the complexity of conflict in the earlier period was less than in the latter years. Much effort was devoted to theoretical development. A new addition to the field theory attempted to represent social time in international relations by treating it as a social force affecting the behavior of nations differently. (Author).

Book Dimensionality of Nations Project

Download or read book Dimensionality of Nations Project written by HAWAII UNIV HONOLULU DEPT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE. and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigation was made of conflict processes and their relationship to shifts in attribute differences. This work produced a theory which, while different from the field theory, was quite complimentary as an analytic means of looking at the dynamic aspects of behavior. The Asian subsystem was analyzed according to behavioral interaction patterns, which were found by application of factor analysis to a dyadic behavior matrix. Japan's role in Asia was interpreted by her position on hierarchical clustering techniques. A missing data estimation computer program was put to use.

Book Testing Field Theory on the 1963 Behavior Space of Nations

Download or read book Testing Field Theory on the 1963 Behavior Space of Nations written by Richard Van Atta and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theory that the behavior of nations to one another is a result of their differences and similarities in attributes has been tested on 1955 data. This paper reports a retest of this theory on 1963 data. The model interprets differences and similarities as implacable forces like gravity and centrifugal force which the nation cannot alter and which affect its behavior regardless of its history, culture, or other unique characteristics. A second model interprets differences and similarities as general forces modified in their impact on behavior by the unique characteristics of each nation. A retest of this model was consistent with previous findings in showing an ability to explain around fifty percent of the variation in international behavior. (Author).

This book was released on 1973 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dimensionality of Nations Project has had as long-range goals improving the ability to forecast international relations, and theoretically linking a number of diverse quantitative research approaches to international relations. The research itself involved analyzing the global system of nation-dyads to determine the linkages between behavior and nation similarities and differences (Task 1), repeating this analysis for Asian dyads (Task 2), and a simulation employing the results (Task 3). This Five-Year Program has been concluded, and the purpose of the report is to overview its accomplishments to date through summarizing and annotating the publications issued under the Program, 1967-1973. (Modified author abstract).

Book R J Rummel An Assessment of His Many Contributions

Download or read book R J Rummel An Assessment of His Many Contributions written by Nils Petter Gleditsch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-30 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY license. The book provides a critical and constructive assessment of the many contributions to social science and politics made by Professor R. J. Rummel. Rummel was a prolific writer and an important teacher and mentor to a number of people who in turn have made their mark on the profession. His work has always been controversial. But after the end of the Cold War, his views on genocide and the democratic peace in particular have gained wide recognition in the profession. He was also a pioneer in the use of statistical methods in international relations. His work in not easily classified in the traditional categories of international relations research (realism, idealism, and constructivism). He was by no means a pacifist and his views on the US-Soviet arms race led him to be classified as a hawk. But his work on the democratic peace has become extremely influential among liberal IR scholars and peace researchers. Above all, he was a libertarian.

Book Rank Theory Field Theory and Attribute Theory

Download or read book Rank Theory Field Theory and Attribute Theory written by Nils Petter Gleditsch and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comparison is made of two theories which have been proposed to account for behavior in the international system, rank theory and field theory. Some empirical data about international relations in the post war period is then applied to the theories. Attribute theory, which has never been proposed as a theory at all, serves mainly as a contrasting function.
