It is as the totality of a student's interaction with institution. How university management decisions on operational matters are affecting the student individual experience to attract who to study, rather than on teaching and learning activities. University learning experience can decide into those components: the application experience; covering the interactions between potential student and the institutions, up to the point of arrival; the academic experience; students' interactions with the institution associated with their studies, excluding for these purposes teaching and learning processes; the campus experience. The management of the student experience is in institutional terms at the heart of responses to their new radically uncertain environment, the externally-driven changes have led to significant new university experience changes in the university structures, policies and processes, resulting in changed institutional cultures. These changes have occurred in different ways depending on the type of university. The research questions that are: Are changes in the higher education leading to change institutional types? Which managerial approaches appear to be the most effective in leading to enhance student experiences and why? In general, centralizing services, standardin procedures and strengthening management controls trend to remove discretion at departmental level in the managing experience university. For example, large university can seek to use existing institutional cultures to encourage greater concern for students' needs on the part of both academic and professional staffs. Although, organizational change will happen, it usually will take the form of changing the reporting lines of student related services to create more coherent functional groupings, rather than comprehensive reorganizations. However, a cultural shift in the direction of improving the student experience, in several dimensions regardless of institutional types. Similarly, whether the university can provide well recruitment service for graduates, this factors can improve the competitive positions in the terms of graduated student recruitment service experience. The cultural shift includes an increased emphasis on employability, new emphasis includes employment-related curriculum changes and enhanced support for recruitment advice and placements, it is concerned to achieve good results for graduated student employment. There is a sense that is focused in response. In believe to student demands on immediate employment rather than on longer term career possibilities. Also, competitive pressure and the consequential need to enhance the support given to student life have led to the introduction of measures to enhance the attractiveness and utility of campuses in various ways. These often utility of campuses in various ways. These often involve library/learning resources improvements, with extended hours of access and the creation of social learning spaces.

Book Management Education and Automation

Download or read book Management Education and Automation written by Denise Tsang and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-26 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to automation, nearly half of the jobs will vanish over the next two decades in the US. However, the problem is not confined to any particular country. Management educators in higher education are faced with two fundamental questions: (a) how we prepare our students for new required technology competencies when conducting international business and (b) how we work with new technologies to prepare our students. While the next generation of employees requires competencies in working with artificial intelligence relying on data analytics, the emergence of artificial intelligence and new technologies in augmenting teaching is changing the nature of higher education across the globe. Management Education and Automation explores international management education in light of exponential development of artificial intelligence, big data, demographic shifts, expansion of robotic utilization in many economic sectors, aging populations and negative population growth in developed economies, multipolar international political systems, migration patterns, and fundamental shifts in individual and social interactions via digital media. It shows the latest state of knowledge on the topic and will be of interest to researchers, academics, policymakers, and students in the fields of international business and management, globalization, management education, and management of technology and innovation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By contemporary I mean a present with an anticipated future, for we must do our best to overcome clinical habits which make us assume that we have done our part if we have clari?ed the past. (Erikson, 1968, pp. 30–31). The scope of time ahead which in?uences present behavior, and is therefore to be regarded as part of the present life-space, increases during development. This change in time perspective is one of the most fundamental facts of development. Adolescence seems to be a period of particularly deep change in respect to time perspective. (Lewin, 1939, p. 879). I chose to open this book with two excerpts from Erikson’s and Lewin’s writings because they indicate that future orientation has had its deep roots in psychol- ical thinking, and call readers’ attention to the long standing interest in two f- damental issues: the motivational power of constructed future images and their development across age. More speci?cally, Erikson and Lewin’s writings und- score the importance of future thinking for in?uencing present behavior tendencies, and point out that the ability to think about the future and realize the “scope of time ahead” increase with age, and reach a special developmental signi?cance in adolescence.

Book Non Cognitive Factors and Learning within a Business Simulation

Download or read book Non Cognitive Factors and Learning within a Business Simulation written by Tanja Kreitenweis and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-22 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serious games can provide a convenient and straightforward access to complex knowledge for all age groups. However, learning achievements depend largely on learners’ non-cognitive factor disposition. With the aim of combining the fields of serious games and non-cognitive factors, this research focuses on the use of a business simulation which conveys change management insights. Business simulations are a subset of serious games and are perceived as a non-traditional learning method. The objectives of this work are versatile: (1) developing a scale, which measures learners’ knowledge and skills increase gained from a business simulation, (2) investigating the effects of non-cognitive factors on learning in this business simulation environment and (3) exploring the moderating role of team preference in this type of learning setting. Using the newly developed scale, this work finds that learners' skills and knowledge states are more pronounced after playing the business simulation.

Download or read book Choosing Students written by Wayne Camara and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-03-23 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings a variety of perspectives to bear on the issue of how higher education institutions can - or should - choose students during the early part of the 21st century. Many of the contributors report on research to develop and validate potential tools to assist those responsible for admission decisions. Other contributors, however, pose broader questions about the nature of selective admissions, about institutional responses to the changing demography of those seeking to enter higher education, or about the appropriate criteria of 'success' in higher education. The volume is particularly timely because the question of how changes in admission tools and processes will affect campus diversity following the recent Supreme Court decision concerning the University of Michigan. Diversity is an important concern of all of the contributors and the chapter by Lee Bollinger--President at Michigan at the time the court cases were filed--is particularly relevant. This book brings together the research that underlies a variety of proposed approaches to improving the selection of students. Providing support for the integrity of the admissions process and the validity of new tools to help a higher education institution to select a diverse student body, this book explores the implications of the assessment component of K-12 school reform for higher education admissions practices. The diverse contributions to this volume reflect the current ferment in educational research and educational practice as institutions of higher education seek to develop a new admissions paradigm for coming decades following the University of Michigan decisions. This book is intended for those leaders and professionals who set admission policies and practices in American colleges, and graduate and professional schools, as well as for those scholars and scientists who research, develop, and validate tools for use in the process of choosing students in ways that are congruent with an institution's mission, values, and goals.

Book Careers Guidance in Context

Download or read book Careers Guidance in Context written by Bill Gothard and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2001-09-04 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Helping others to make occupational choices requires a combination of skill and a deep understanding of the world of work as it is today and will be in the future. Unlike texts that focus only on skill, Careers Guidance in Context is designed to develop understanding of the factors that shape both the labour market, and careers guidance as an occupation in itself. Careers Guidance in Context re-evaluates the concept of `a career′ in the light of economic restructuring, globalization and the growth of information technology. It draws together up-to-date theories about guidance work and debates the importance of integrating theory and practice. Examining the processes in which practitioners engage when working with individual clients, the book also explores careers guidance within a group setting - an area that has previously been neglected in the literature. The book will be invaluable to students on courses in careers guidance, counselling and education. It will also be of great interest to professionals who need to keep up-to-date with current thinking and practice.
