Book Intramolecular Diels Alder and Alder Ene Reactions

Download or read book Intramolecular Diels Alder and Alder Ene Reactions written by Douglass F. Taber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Diels-Alder reaction has long been a powerful tool in organic synthesis. In recent years, the Alder ene reaction has also achieved some prominence. From the beginning, it was apparent that the intramolecular variants of these reactions would be feasible. Many such have been reported, but the results are widely scattered in the chemical literature. This volume is an attempt to synthesize results observed to date, and to suggest directions for future development. One of the limiting factors in the application of the intramolecular Diels Alder reaction has been the development of methods for the preparation of the requisite trienes. The fIrst chapter of this volume summarizes methods for the preparation of dienes and dienophiles. Examples representative of every general approach to 1,3-dienes and to dienophilic functional group combinations have been included. There are two questions one might ask in considering the prospective cyclization of a given triene: what are the factors that govern the rate of cyclization? and, for cyclizations that lead to the creation of one or more new chiral centers, what are the factors that govern diastereoselectivity? These questions are addressed in Chapter Two. The third chapter is devoted to the all-carbon intramolecular Alder ene reaction. The tables in that chapter summarize all examples that could be found in the literature through 1981, with several additional examples from 1982. Leading references to heterocyclic ene reactions are also included in this chapter.

Book The Conservation of Orbital Symmetry

Download or read book The Conservation of Orbital Symmetry written by R. B. Woodward and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Conservation of Orbital Symmetry examines the principle of conservation of orbital symmetry and its use. The central content of the principle was that reactions occur readily when there is congruence between orbital symmetry characteristics of reactants and products, and only with difficulty when that congruence does not obtain—or to put it more succinctly, orbital symmetry is conserved in concerted reaction. This principle is expected to endure, whatever the language in which it may be couched, or whatever greater precision may be developed in its application and extension. The book opens with a review of the elementary aspects of the molecular orbital theory of bonding. This is followed by separate chapters on correlation diagrams, the conservation of orbital symmetry, theory of electrocyclic reactions, theory of cycloadditions and cycloreversions, and theory of sigmatropic reactions. Subsequent chapters deal with group transfers and eliminations; secondary conformational effects in concerted cycloaddition reactions; and generalized selection rules for pericyclic reactions.

Book Mechanochemical Organic Synthesis

Download or read book Mechanochemical Organic Synthesis written by Davor Margetic and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-04-23 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanochemical Organic Synthesis is a comprehensive reference that not only synthesizes the current literature but also offers practical protocols that industrial and academic scientists can immediately put to use in their daily work. Increasing interest in green chemistry has led to the development of numerous environmentally-friendly methodologies for the synthesis of organic molecules of interest. Amongst the green methodologies drawing attention, mechanochemistry is emerging as a promising method to circumvent the use of toxic solvents and reagents as well as to increase energy efficiency. The development of synthetic strategies that require less, or the minimal, amount of energy to carry out a specific reaction with optimum productivity is of vital importance for large-scale industrial production. Experimental procedures at room temperature are the mildest reaction conditions (essentially required for many temperature-sensitive organic substrates as a key step in multi-step sequence reactions) and are the core of mechanochemical organic synthesis. This green synthetic method is now emerging in a very progressive manner and until now, there is no book that reviews the recent developments in this area. Features cutting-edge research in the field of mechanochemical organic synthesis for more sustainable reactions Integrates advances in green chemistry research into industrial applications and process development Focuses on designing techniques in organic synthesis directed toward mild reaction conditions Includes global coverage of mechanochemical synthetic protocols for the generation of organic compounds

Book Cycloadditions in Bioorthogonal Chemistry

Download or read book Cycloadditions in Bioorthogonal Chemistry written by Milan Vrabel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-28 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Topics in Current Chemistry Collections presents critical reviews from the journal Topics in Current Chemistry organized in topical volumes. The scope of coverage is all areas of chemical science including the interfaces with related disciplines such as biology, medicine and materials science. The goal of each thematic volume is to give the non-specialist reader, whether in academia or industry, a comprehensive insight into an area where new research is emerging which is of interest to a larger scientific audience. Each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years are presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. The coverage is not intended to be an exhaustive summary of the field or include large quantities of data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the methodological thinking that will allow the non-specialist reader to understand the information presented. Contributions also offer an outlook on potential future developments in the field.

Book Thiophenes

    Book Details:
  • Author : Salo Gronowitz
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2004-05-12
  • ISBN : 0080519229
  • Pages : 986 pages

Download or read book Thiophenes written by Salo Gronowitz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-05-12 with total page 986 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a vast and often bewildering array of synthetic methods and reagents available to organic chemists today. The Best Synthetic Methods series allows any scientist who is interested in the chemical transformations of molecules to choose between all the alternatives and assess their real advantages and limitations. With the emphasis on laboratory use, these volumes represent a comprehensive and practical guide to modern synthetic organic chemistry. This book is the product of the authors many years practical experience and reading of the original literature. It contains a valuable distillation and critical evaluation of the Best Synthetic Methods for the formation and reaction of thiophenes (five membered heterocycles containing a ring sulfur) or polymers containing a thiophene functionality (thienyls). A brief review of each area is provided, but the emphasis in all cases is on describing efficient practical methods to effect the transformations described. The reader can therefore use this book to rapidly review and select the best methods of performing a synthetic conversion to create or modify a specifically substituted thiophene. Although this book contains many references to the original literature, the large number of experimental recipes enables the user to prepare a thiophene derivative without access to the original literature. These features make the handbook especially useful for physicists working in material sciences and organic/pharmaceutical chemists, who rapidly want to find out the availability of (or how to make) a specific thiophene. Contains a systematic description and critical evaluation of the best methods for preparation of thiophenes and polymers containing thiophenes Rapid location of methods achieved by systematic division of substituents following the periodic table All chapters are richly illustrated by detailed experimental proceedures for the synthesis of five membered heterocycles containing sulfur
