Book A Dictionary of Entomology

Download or read book A Dictionary of Entomology written by Gordon Gordh and published by CABI. This book was released on 2001 with total page 1040 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is a comprehensive, fully cross-referenced collection of over 28,000 terms, names and phrases used in entomology, incorporating an estimated 43,000 definitions. It is the only listing which covers insect anatomy, behaviour, biology, ecology, histology, molecular biology, morphology, pest management, taxonomy and systematics. The origin, etymology, part of speech and definition of each term and phrase are all provided, including the language, meaning or root of each term and constituent parts. Where meanings have changed, or terms have been borrowed from other disciplines, the most current usage is indicated. The common names of insects, their scientific binomen and taxonomic classification are provided, with diagnoses of pest species in many cases. All insect order, suborder, superfamily, family and subfamily names are given, together with the diagnostic features of orders and families. Names of deceased entomologists, or scientists from other fields who have contributed to entomology are included, with the citation for their biography or obituary. The list of names is global, including entomologists from Asia, whose research has often been neglected by western scientists. This book is an essential reference source for all professionals and students of entomology and related disciplines."--p. [4] of cover.

This book was released on 2018-03-03 with total page 1140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Textbook of Medical Entomology I have watched this book through all its stages and I know perhaps better than any one else the enormous labour that has been entailed by its preparation. It covers an immense and in many places untrodden field it is moreover thoroughly practical and the greatest care has been taken in the description of technique. For both these reasons it will be extremely useful to all workers in Medical Entomology, and I trust that it will meet with the success which it undoubtedly deserves. With these few remarks I leave the book to speak for itself. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2018-08-17 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explanation of Terms Used in Entomology by John Bernhard Smith When, some time since, in consequence of continuing demands, the Brooklyn Entomological Society resolved to publish a new edition of its Explanation of Terms used in Entomology, and entrusted the writer and two associates with the task of preparing the same, it was believed that a little revision of definitions, the dropping of a few obsolete terms and the addition of a few lately proposed, would be all that was necessary. It was to be a light task to fill idle time in summer, report to be made in fall. Two years have passed since that time; the associates have dropped by the way; the manuscript contains five times the number of terms in the original "Explanation." and if it is published now, it is not because I believe it to be complete; but because I do not believe it can be made complete except as the result of criticism and voluntary addition by specialists throughout the country. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. The aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature, and our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. The contents of the vast majority of titles in the Classic Library have been scanned from the original works. To ensure a high quality product, each title has been meticulously hand curated by our staff. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with a book that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work.
