Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1902. Another heartwarming tale from the author of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. The story begins: In alluding to myself as a Goose Girl, I am using only the most modest of my titles; for I am also a poultry maid, a tend of Belgian hares and rabbits, and a shepherdess; but I particularly fancy the role of Goose Girl, because it recalls the German fairy tales of my early youth, when I always yearned, but never hoped, to be precisely what I now am. Book excerpt: The "Goose Girl" is a young and somewhat independent lady who, in fleeing from her lover with whom there had been a "little tiff," becomes a "paying guest" at poultry farm in a quiet, out-of-the-way Sussex village. The care of ducks and geese is somewhat more complicated than she anticipates, and this book told in a first perspective diary format narrates the humorous trials and travails of the care of often recalcitrant geese, ducks and chickens. "The Goose Girl's" charming black and white illustrations add to the humor of the story.
