Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Dewdrop's Soul Who calls this the electric age? When every human soul with the swiftness of light, responds, out of sympathy, to the vibratory movement of thought, as spirit throws Open the key to send the message of truth, then, and not until then, can we pronounce this in the highest sense the electric age. There are those who still stand at the switchboard trying to ground the messages which should pass around the globe. Or, to change the figure to suit the character of the antagonists, the moment the banner of a new ideal unfurls, the skeptics and conserva tiyes fly to the walls and battlements ready to defend unto death their sacred prejudices. Book excerpt: The Message for the New Millennium presents a vision of Awakening which reveals the human face of the Buddha. It is essential at this moment in our evolution to return to a more realistic perspective of enlightenment. Most seekers cannot relate to the concept of enlightenment for they feel intimidated by the image of the 'flawless' Buddha. Here, The Human Buddha is no longer a spiritual superman who denies natural longings, desires and human imperfections. The Human Buddha is indeed a sensitive being, a child of the Beloved like all of us. The Human Buddha openly acknowledges the gentle and vulnerable quality of his or her heart.

This book was released on 2014-07-14 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Elford Rogers proposes a genre-theory that will clarify what we mean when we speak of literary works as dramatic, epic, or lyric. Focusing on lyric poetry, this book maintains that the broad genre-concepts need not be discarded but can be preserved by a new interpretive model that gives us conceptual knowledge not about works but about interpretation. Book Andrew Marvell s Liminal Lyrics

Download or read book Andrew Marvell s Liminal Lyrics written by Joan Faust and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2012 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Andrew Marvell's Liminal Lyrics: The Space Between is an interdisciplinary study of the major lyric poems of seventeenth-century British metaphysical poet Andrew Marvell. The poet and his work have generally proven enigmatic to scholars because both refuse to fit into normal categories and expectations. This study invites Marvell readers to view the poet and some of his representative lyrics in the context of the anthropological concept of liminality as developed by Victor Turner and enriched by Arnold Van Gennep, Jacques Lacan, and other observers of the in-between aspects of experience. The approach differs from previous attempts to "explain" Marvell in that it allows multidisciplinary and multi-media contexts in a broad matrix of the areas of experience and representation that defy boundaries, that blur the line at which entrance becomes exit. This study acknowledges that the poems discussed, and, by implication, the entire corpus of Marvell's work and the life that produced it, derive from a refusal to draw a definite divide. In analyzing a small selection of Marvell's life and lyrics as explorations of various realms of liminality in word and image, readers can see a passageway to the poet's works that never really reaches a destination; instead, the unlimited possibilities of the journey remain. Thus, the in-between aspects of the poet and his poetry actually define his technique as well as his brilliance.

Book Whitsun and Ascension

  • Author : Rudolf Steiner
  • Publisher : Rudolf Steiner Press
  • Release : 2013-05-17
  • ISBN : 1855843420
  • Pages : 132 pages

Download or read book Whitsun and Ascension written by Rudolf Steiner and published by Rudolf Steiner Press. This book was released on 2013-05-17 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rudolf Steiner, the often undervalued, multifaceted genius of modern times, contributed much to the regeneration of culture. In addition to his philosophical teachings, he provided ideas for the development of many practical activities, including education - both general and special - agriculture, medicine, economics, architecture, science, religion and the arts. Steiner's original contribution to human knowledge was based on his ability to conduct 'spiritual research', the investigation of metaphysical dimensions of existence. With his scientific and philosophical training, he brought a new systematic discipline to the field, allowing for conscious methods and comprehensive results. A natural seer from childhood, he cultivated his spiritual vision to a high degree, enabling him to speak with authority on previously veiled mysteries of life. Samples of Steiner's work are to be found in this introductory reader in which Matthew Barton brings together excerpts from Steiner's many talks and writings on the festivals of Whitsun and Ascension. The volume also features an editorial introduction, afterword, commentary and notes. Chapters: Rising to the Clouds, Tethered to Earth; Suffering's Open Door; All One to Alone to One in All; Human Freedom and the Word.

Book Khalil Gibran Complete Works Wisehouse Classics

Download or read book Khalil Gibran Complete Works Wisehouse Classics written by Khalil Gibran and published by Wisehouse. This book was released on 2019-11-08 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the complete works (poetry and fiction) of Khalil Gibran. Khalil Gibran was a Lebanese-American writer, poet and visual artist, also considered a philosopher although he himself rejected this title in his lifetime. He is best known as the author of The Prophet, which was first published in the United States in 1923 and is one of the best-selling books of all time, having been translated into more than 100 languages. As worded by Suheil Bushrui and Joe Jenkins, Gibran's life has been described as one "often caught between Nietzschean rebellion, Blakean pantheism and Sufi mysticism." Gibran discussed "such themes as religion, justice, free will, science, love, happiness, the soul, the body, and death" in his writings, which were "characterized by innovation breaking with forms of the past, by symbolism, an undying love for his native land, and a sentimental, melancholic yet often oratorical style." He explored literary forms as diverse as "poetry, parables, fragments of conversation, short stories, fables, political essays, letters, and aphorisms." Salma Khadra Jayyusi has called him "the single most important influence on Arabic poetry and literature during the first half of [the twentieth] century", and he is still celebrated as a literary hero in Lebanon.

Book excerpt: Almustafa, the chosen and the beloved, who was a noon unto his own day, returned to the isle of his birth in the month of Tichreen, which is the month of remembrance. And as his ship approached the harbour, he stood upon its prow, and his mariners were about him. And there was a homecoming in his heart. And he spoke, and the sea was in his voice, and he said: "Behold, the isle of our birth. Even here the earth heaved us, a song and a riddle; a song unto the sky, a riddle unto the earth; and what is there between earth and sky that shall carry the song and solve the riddle save our own passion?
