Download or read book The Garden History of Devon written by Todd Gray and published by University of Exeter Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Garden History of Devon is a reference guide to historical sources for over 200 Devon gardens. It also provides an introduction for would-be garden historians on how to conduct garden research. The book is the result of an exploration of the archival resources of Devon's garden history; the objective being to provide signposts to research material for those interested in the development of Devon's gardens. The entries, arranged alphabetically, begin with a brief section describing each garden's history, amplified by quotations from contemporary travellers and diarists; following the descriptive sections are listings of documents, printed sources and illustrations relating to each garden. The greater part of this material is unknown to garden historians.

Download or read book Earth Story in the Psalms and the Prophets written by Norman C. Habel and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, scholars from around the world read the story of Earth in key texts from the Psalms and the Prophets.Their readings challenge popular understandings of the Chaoskampf myth, the theophany of Psalm 29 and the New Earth in Isaiah 65. Re-readings of Ezekiel expose the cruelty of divine justice extended to the natural world. Several articles by indigenous writers sensitive to the voice of Earth bring new insights to the potential meaning of texts like Psalm 104. Contributors include Lloyd Geering, Russell Nelson, William Urbrock, Laurie Braaten, Keith Carley, Anne Gardner, John Olley, Gunther Wittenberg, Kalinda Stevenson, Peter Trudinger, Arthur Walker-Jones, Norman Charles, Howard Wallace, Geraldine Avent, Madipoane Masenya and Abotchie Ntreh.

The IUGG Upper Mantle Committee has stated that the hypothesis of continental drift envisages horizontal displacements of the continents over th- sands of kilometers, and that it is a principal objective of the Upper Mantle Project to prove whether or not continental drift has occurred. The origin of the hypothesis may be traced to the close similarity in outlines of the coasts on the two sides of the Atlantic Ocean. The theory that the eastern and western hemispheres are drifting apart was expounded in particular by A. Wegener. Modern geophysical theories seek to explain paleomagnetic observations by - suming that two things have occurred in the past: (a) large-scale polar wandering, and (b) continental drift. A direct confirmation of drift, if it exists, is greatly desired. Attempts have been made to prove that continental drift has occurred from - served changes in latitude and longitude. It was thought by some, in fact, that such changes had been detected.
