Book Genetic Algorithms as a Tool for Phased Array Radar Design

Download or read book Genetic Algorithms as a Tool for Phased Array Radar Design written by Jon A. Bartee and published by . This book was released on 2002-06-01 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States Navy needs creative ways to design multi-function phased array radars. This thesis proposes that Genetic Algorithms, computer programs that mimic natural selection to arrive at innovative solutions to complex problems, would be particularly well suited to this task. The ability of a Genetic Algorithm to properly predict the behavior of an array antenna with randomly located elements was examined with encouraging results through the construction and measurement of a test array. Comparison of test data to Genetic Algorithm and Method of Moments calculations showed significant qualitative agreement in the antenna test patterns of a thin, randomly distributed array. Areas of disagreement between the test article pattern and the calculated ones were traced to systematic errors in the anechoic chamber and alignment error during antenna positioning. The final experiment to demonstrate beam steering was not completed due to lack of time and poor response of mechanical phase shifters. Despite the inability to demonstrate beam steering, the early experiments demonstrate the significant potential for using Genetic Algorithms for complex shipboard phased array radar antenna design.

Book Multi mission Radar Waveform Design Via a Distributed SPEA2 Genetic Algorithm

Download or read book Multi mission Radar Waveform Design Via a Distributed SPEA2 Genetic Algorithm written by Brent Josefiak and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This thesis furthers the development of Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and their application to the design of multi-mission radar waveforms. An application was developed with the goal of developing a waveform suite that finds the Pareto optimal solutions to a multi-objective optimization radar problem. Utilizing the Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm 2 (SPEA2) a series of radar parameters are optimized along the fitness metrics of interest. This implementation builds upon previous work to develop an application that is capable of analyzing longer more realistic scenarios by using a distributed grid computer to spread the computational load across multiple CPUs. It also advances the previous research by solving for the Pareto optimal front of a simultaneous Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Moving Target Indication (MTI) mission. These results are presented to validate the performance of the new distributed application against previous work and introduce results of larger more realistic scenarios for a multi-mission radar suite."--Abstract.

Book Improved Time domain Code for Prediction of Ship Motion and Sea Loads in Head and Following Seas

Download or read book Improved Time domain Code for Prediction of Ship Motion and Sea Loads in Head and Following Seas written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes development work carried out to extend the previously developed prediction methods and associated computer code for the solution of the linear time domain hydrodynamic ship motion problem. The previous methods and code were restricted to head sea conditions, and the work reported extends these to include following sea conditions. Presents the theoretical methods used to determine the impulse response functions associated with the incident wave pressures and velocities and the diffracted and Froude- Krylov wave forces under following sea conditions. Also reviews computer code improvements incorporated in the latest work, including improvement in the static equilibrium calculation routine, provision of an improved hull panelling scheme and transom panelling procedure, and reduction in storage requirements. Presents validation studies to examine the performance of the improved hull motion prediction procedures. Both measured and predicted hull motion data for three widely differing hull forms are compared to numerical prediction obtained from the present computational modelling (both head sea and following sea data included).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Greg Zacharias, former Chief Scientist of the United States Air Force (2015-18), explores next steps in autonomous systems (AS) development, fielding, and training. Rapid advances in AS development and artificial intelligence (AI) research will change how we think about machines, whether they are individual vehicle platforms or networked enterprises. The payoff will be considerable, affording the US military significant protection for aviators, greater effectiveness in employment, and unlimited opportunities for novel and disruptive concepts of operations. Autonomous Horizons: The Way Forward identifies issues and makes recommendations for the Air Force to take full advantage of this transformational technology.
