Book The Development of Elementary Quantum Theory

Download or read book The Development of Elementary Quantum Theory written by Herbert Capellmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book traces the evolution of the ideas that eventually resulted in the elementary quantum theory in 1925/26. Further, it discusses the essential differences between the fundamental equations of Quantum Theory derived by Born and Jordan, logically comprising Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Optics, and the traditional view of the development of Quantum Mechanics. Drawing on original publications and letters written by the main protagonists of that time, it shows that Einstein’s contributions from 1905 to 1924 laid the essential foundations for the development of Quantum Theory. Einstein introduced quantization of the radiation field; Born added quantized mechanical behavior. In addition, Born recognized that Quantum Mechanics necessarily required Quantum Optics; his radical concept of truly discontinuous and statistical quantum transitions (“quantum leaps”) was directly based on Einstein’s physical concepts.

Book Elementary Quantum Mechanics

Download or read book Elementary Quantum Mechanics written by David S. Saxon and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-24 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on lectures for an undergraduate UCLA course in quantum mechanics, this volume focuses on the formulas of quantum mechanics rather than applications. Widely used in both upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses, it offers a broad self-contained survey rather than in-depth treatments. Topics include the dual nature of matter and radiation, state functions and their interpretation, linear momentum, the motion of a free particle, Schrödinger's equation, approximation methods, angular momentum, and many other subjects. In the interests of keeping the mathematics as simple as possible, most of the book is confined to considerations of one-dimensional systems. A selection of 150 problems, many of which require prolonged study, amplify the text's teachings and an appendix contains solutions to 50 representative problems. This edition also includes a new Introduction by Joseph A. Rudnick and Robert Finkelstein.

Book The Historical Development of Quantum Theory

Download or read book The Historical Development of Quantum Theory written by Jagdish Mehra and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-12-28 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum Theory, together with the principles of special and general relativity, constitute a scientific revolution that has profoundly influenced the way in which we think about the universe and the fundamental forces that govern it. The Historical Development of Quantum Theory is a definitive historical study of that scientific work and the human struggles that accompanied it from the beginning. Drawing upon such materials as the resources of the Archives for the History of Quantum Physics, the Niels Bohr Archives, and the archives and scientific correspondence of the principal quantum physicists, as well as Jagdish Mehra's personal discussions over many years with most of the architects of quantum theory, the authors have written a rigorous scientific history of quantum theory in a deeply human context. This multivolume work presents a rich account of an intellectual triumph: a unique analysis of the creative scientific process. The Historical Development of Quantum Theory is science, history, and biography, all wrapped in the story of a great human enterprise. Its lessons will be an aid to those working in the sciences and humanities alike.

Book Foundational Transformation of Quantum Mechanics

Download or read book Foundational Transformation of Quantum Mechanics written by Victor Vaguine and published by ConsReality, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-09-13 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aphysical Quantum Mechanics (AQM) is a deeper and more profound quantum theory. Volume One expands the understanding of quantum reality with the addition of two new fundamental categories: aphysical and elementary consciousness of elementary particles. Using the AQM Theory, Volume One details the explanation of all known and long standing quantum enigmas, including “the collapse of the wave function,” and presents and explains the inner structures of perfect geometry of the photon and the intrinsic electron. AQM brings not only foundational transformation to quantum mechanics, but also to other branches of physics, such as quantum optics and particle physics. The paradigmatic power of AQM is such that the author was able to uncover 47 fundamental misconceptions/absurdities in the Standard Model theory of particle physics, and to make 27 fundamental scientific discoveries, all presented in these Volumes.

Book The Physicist s Conception of Nature

Download or read book The Physicist s Conception of Nature written by Jagdish Mehra and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 853 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental conceptions of twentieth-century physics have profoundly influenced almost every field of modern thought and activity. Quantum Theory, Relativity, and the modern ideas on the Structure of Matter have contributed to a deeper understand ing of Nature, and they will probably rank in history among the greatest intellectual achievements of all time. The purpose of our symposium was to review, in historical perspective, the current horizons of the major conceptual structures of the physics of this century. Professors Abdus Salam and Hendrik Casimir, in their remarks at the opening of the symposium, have referred to its origin and planning. Our original plan was to hold a two-week symposium on the different aspects of five principal themes: 1. Space, Time and Geometry (including the structure of the universe and the theory of gravita tion),2. Quantum Theory (including the development of quantum mechanics and quantum field theory), 3. Statistical Description of Nature (including the discussion of equilibrium and non-equilibrium phenomena, and the application of these ideas to the evolution of biological structure), 4. The Structure of Matter (including the discus sion, in a unified perspective, of atoms, molecules, nuclei, elementary particles, and the physics of condensed matter), and finally, 5. Physical Description and Epistemo logy (including the distinction between classical and quantum descriptions, and the epistemological and philosophical problems raised by them).

Book Elementary Quantum Mechanics Expanded Edition

Download or read book Elementary Quantum Mechanics Expanded Edition written by Fong Peter and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2005-06-16 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum mechanics is a difficult subject for students to learn after years of rigorous training in classical physics. In quantum mechanics they have to abandon what they have laboriously learned and adopt a new system of thinking. In the previous edition of this book, the author reformulated classical mechanics as a classical theory with an undetermined constant. As the constant approaches zero the theory reduces to Newton's exactly, but when set equal to the Planck constant the theory reduces to the Schrödinger representation of quantum mechanics. Thus the new theory, at least in its mathematical form, can be learned without ramifications and complexity. Over the years, the book has shepherded the growth of a generation of physicists. In this expanded edition, a similar trick is applied to introduce matrix mechanics. The matrix formulation presented allows quantum theory to be generalized to new physical systems such as electron spin, which cannot be done by the Schrödinger approach. The result is a textbook which promises to provide a future generation of students a clear, usable and authoritative resource to study the fundamentals of quantum mechanics. Twenty new problems are added to existing chapters.

Book Consistent Quantum Theory

  • Pages : 412 pages

Download or read book Consistent Quantum Theory written by Robert B. Griffiths and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-11-13 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum mechanics is one of the most fundamental yet difficult subjects in physics. Nonrelativistic quantum theory is presented here in a clear and systematic fashion, integrating Born's probabilistic interpretation with Schrödinger dynamics. Basic quantum principles are illustrated with simple examples requiring no mathematics beyond linear algebra and elementary probability theory. The quantum measurement process is consistently analyzed using fundamental quantum principles without referring to measurement. These same principles are used to resolve several of the paradoxes that have long perplexed physicists, including the double slit and Schrödinger's cat. The consistent histories formalism used here was first introduced by the author, and extended by M. Gell-Mann, J. Hartle and R. Omnès. Essential for researchers yet accessible to advanced undergraduate students in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and computer science, this book is supplementary to standard textbooks. It will also be of interest to physicists and philosophers working on the foundations of quantum mechanics.

Book Understanding Quantum Mechanics

Download or read book Understanding Quantum Mechanics written by Roland Omnès and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-12-08 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here Roland Omnès offers a clear, up-to-date guide to the conceptual framework of quantum mechanics. In an area that has provoked much philosophical debate, Omnès has achieved high recognition for his Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics (Princeton 1994), a book for specialists. Now the author has transformed his own theory into a short and readable text that enables beginning students and experienced physicists, mathematicians, and philosophers to form a comprehensive picture of the field while learning about the most recent advances. This new book presents a more streamlined version of the Copenhagen interpretation, showing its logical consistency and completeness. The problem of measurement is a major area of inquiry, with the author surveying its history from Planck to Heisenberg before describing the consistent-histories interpretation. He draws upon the most recent research on the decoherence effect (related to the modern resolution of the famous Schrödinger's cat problem) and an exact formulation of the correspondence between quantum and particle physics (implying a derivation of classical determinism from quantum probabilism). Interpretation is organized with the help of a universal and sound language using so-called consistent histories. As a language and a method, it can now be shown to be free of ambiguity and it makes interpretation much clearer and closer to common sense.

Book A Finite Unified Quantum Field Theory of the Elementary Particle Standard Model and Quantum Gravity

Download or read book A Finite Unified Quantum Field Theory of the Elementary Particle Standard Model and Quantum Gravity written by Stephen Blaha and published by Pingree-Hill Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, A Finite Unified Quantum Field Theory of the Elementary Particle Standard Model and Quantum Gravity Based on New Quantum Dimensions and a New Paradigm in the Calculus of Variations, develops a new formulation of quantum field theory. Within this framework, a finite unified quantum field theory of the known forces of nature - electromagnetism, the weak interactions, the strong interactions and gravity - is created. The conventional Standard Model is the large distance limit of the elementary particle sector of the unified theory. The Quantum Gravity sector is finite in this formulation. Its large distance limit is Einsteinian gravity. This unified theory contains no divergences - thus solving a major problem that has bedeviled quantum field theory for the past seventy years. The theory is based on a new form of hidden dimensions: Quantum Dimensions, that only manifest themselves at ultra-high energies. Some new phenomena that result are: * Unification of QED, Weak Interactions, Strong Interactions and Quantum Gravity.* Finite - No divergences.* Finite also with massive vector bosons: No need for Higgs mechanism.* Low Energy Limit: Approximates Standard Model (and QED) to arbitrary accuracy.* Suggests possible doubly charged dilepton resonances.* Large Distance limit of Quantum Gravity: Newtonian gravitational potential.* No ultra-microscopic Black Holes.* A New form of hidden dimensions: Quantum Dimensions.* A New form of interaction: Dimensional Interactions.* A New paradigm (type of problem) for the Calculus of Variations.
