Book Pavement Asset Management

Download or read book Pavement Asset Management written by Ralph Haas and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-05-26 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive and practical, Pavement Asset Management provides an essential resource for educators, students and those in public agencies and consultancies who are directly responsible for managing road and airport pavements. The book is comprehensive in the integration of activities that go into having safe and cost-effective pavements using the best technologies and management processes available. This is accomplished in seven major parts, and 42 component chapters, ranging from the evolution of pavement management to date requirements to determining needs and priority programming of rehabilitation and maintenance, followed by structural design and economic analysis, implementation of pavement management systems, basic features of working systems and finally by a part on looking ahead. The most current methodologies and practical applications of managing pavements are described in this one-of-a-kind book. Real world up-to-date examples are provided, as well as an extensive list of references for each part.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of a pavement management system for the US Army began in 1968. Since that time there have been many successes, but the road to development and implementation has been full of obstacles and can generally be described as "rough. This paper discusses the Army's PAVER pavement management system in terms of its history, development challenges, implementation obstacles, and solutions.

Book Pavement Management Methodologies to Select Projects and Recommend Preservation Treatments

Download or read book Pavement Management Methodologies to Select Projects and Recommend Preservation Treatments written by Kathryn A. Zimmerman and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1995 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to highway administrators; pavement management system (PMS), maintenance, and computer engineers; and technologists involved with data collection and computer programming for the purposes of a PMS. This synthesis describes the state of the practice with respect to pavement management methodologies to select projects and recommend preservation treatments. This report of the Transportation Research Board also describes the predominant pavement management methodologies being used by U.S. state and Canadian provincial transportation agencies; provides a general description of each methodology; and summarizes the requirements, benefits, hindrances, and constraints associated with each. It includes a review of domestic literature and a survey of current practices in North America. In addition, case studies are included to illustrate the use of these methodologies within transportation agencies. Operational and soon-to-be implemented technologies are also discussed, and an extensive bibliography is provided for further reference.

Book Implementation of a Pavement Management System for Local Counties

Download or read book Implementation of a Pavement Management System for Local Counties written by Luis Mariano Sibaja Vargas and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the course of time and due to budget constrains agencies have changed their emphasis from construction of new roads to maintenance and rehabilitation of existing pavement structures. To achieve so, proper evaluation of the pavement's condition has been the principal source of information for effective road network management of state, city, and local transportation agencies. The necessity of obtaining the most benefit from limited funding led to the desire of Carson City and Douglas County's Public Works offices to implement a Pavement Management System for their networks. To achieve so, the Paver Software was selected as the common data management tool. Thorough data analysis of the pavement condition and work history data is necessary to obtain accurate performance prediction models. Lack of data was compensated with sewer line construction data and engineering judgment along with a three tier cleaning process. The current budget of both agencies was shown to be significantly lower than the necessary budget to maintain or improve the overall pavement network condition to an acceptable level. The reports generated serve the agencies to prioritize their spending through cost effective treatments, defend themselves against public criticism, and for requesting additional funding. Based on the findings from this study, it was recommended for local agencies to develop pavement management systems to apply the most cost effective treatments and obtain the most out of their limited budgets. A plan was provided on how to maintain and update the developed pavement management system.

Book Development and Implementation of Arizona Department of Transportation ADOT Pavement Management System PMS

Download or read book Development and Implementation of Arizona Department of Transportation ADOT Pavement Management System PMS written by Sameh Zaghloul and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has been one of the pioneering states in the development and implementation of Pavement Management System (PMS). Since the early 1980's, ADOT has been using pavement management tools to manage, maintain and preserve Arizona's highway network. ADOT's PMS tools were originally based on a probabilistic approach for modeling the pavement performance, which were adequate for the original ADOT requirements. Recently, ADOT has decided to expand the use of the PMS tools to also support the pavement maintenance operations. This required a change in the existing ADOT's PMS tools, which prompted a need to move to a different pavement management software. Subsequently, ADOT selected Stantec's Highway Pavement Management Application (HPMA) software to replace its pavement management system, and retained Stantec's services for structuring, data loading, model development, and implementing the HPMA. HPMA is a single software application that provides full database management and analysis capabilities required by the two types of users (PMS and Maintenance). The HPMA provides capability for users to work at both the detailed highway level and the aggregated section level. Also it provides a wide variety of analysis capabilities, including corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, and rehabilitation analysis. This report documents the approach used to achieve the goals of this project including the customization of the HPMA to address ADOT requirements, the development of the analysis models, which are based on ADOT historic performance data, and the implementation of these analysis models in conducting a statewide analysis.

Book Pavement Management Systems State of the Art

Download or read book Pavement Management Systems State of the Art written by SN. Amirkhanian and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The condition of the highway network in the United States is deteriorating rapidly. Maintenance and rehabilitation are becoming increasingly important. With an approximately 4 million mile highway network in place, and limited funds available for its maintenance, pavement management is assuming a significant role in the activities of America's highway agencies. This paper traces the history, development, and implementation of pavement management systems (PMS) through the past two decades. The results of a survey assessing the impact of the FHWA ruling requiring all state agencies to implement PMS by 1993 are presented. Applications for geographic information systems, knowledge based expert systems, and voice recognition systems in pavement management are discussed.

Book Implementation of a Pavement Management System in Virginia

Download or read book Implementation of a Pavement Management System in Virginia written by Kenneth H. McGhee and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report summarizes the developments in pavement management in the Virginia Department of Transportation through late 1986. Included are discussions of the pavement management process with examples of priority programming, long-range projection of maintenance-replacement needs, and the monitoring of pavement rating teams. The report shows that the Department has made great progress both in the development and implementation of the pavement management system. Several recommendations address areas in which the system can be "fine tuned" and made more useful to both top and middle management.
