Book The Psychology of Design

Download or read book The Psychology of Design written by Rajeev Batra and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-07-24 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design plays an increasingly larger role today in creating consumer desire for products and liking for commercial messages. However, the psychological processes involved are only partially understood. In addition, design is inherently interdisciplinary, involving (among others) important elements of aesthetics, anthropology, brand strategy, creativity, design science, engineering, graphic design, industrial design, marketing, material science, product design, and several areas within psychology. While researchers and practitioners in all of these fields seek to learn more about how and why "good" design works its magic, they may benefit from each other’s work. The chapters in this edited book bring together organizing frameworks and reviews of the relevant literatures from many of these contributing disciplines, along with recent empirical work. They cover relevant areas such as embodied cognition, processing fluency, experiential marketing, sensory marketing, visual aesthetics, and other research streams related to the impact of design on consumers. Importantly, the primary focus of these chapters is not on product design that creates functional value for the targeted consumer, but rather on how design can create the kind of emotional, experiential, hedonic, and sensory appeal that results in attracting consumers. Each chapter concludes with Implications for a theory of design as well as for designers.

Book The Influence of Visual Perception on Ease of Use EOU How Product Design Impacts the Buying Decision

Download or read book The Influence of Visual Perception on Ease of Use EOU How Product Design Impacts the Buying Decision written by Lukas Jankowski and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-11-04 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: 1,7, University of Mannheim, language: English, abstract: The goal of this thesis is to give a structured overview of the current state of research with regards to the impact of visual appearance on Ease of Use (EOU) perceptions and their influence, in turn, on innovation adoption. Further, it will be examined which boundary conditions potentially inhibit this effect. A product’s design is found to have multiple roles it can pursue to fulfill different consumer needs. Thus, an understanding of the relative influence of the various dimensions of product appearance on EOU perceptions is crucial to design an optimal product/system for the right context. Consumers, on the other hand, will benefit from these design cues as they provide valuable inferences about category membership, correct usage, expected performance and preference for an innovation. Besides the importance of identifying potential determinants of ease of use (EOU) perceptions, it is critical for managers and designers to understand that these beliefs are often derived from the visual appearance of a product as an intuitive judgement heuristic. Visual appearance usually forms the first impression, hence judgements of visual newness are frequently made before the assessment of more functional attributes of the product. Not surprisingly, design has been rated "the most important determinant of new product performance" among marketing managers in 1988 (Bruce and Whitehead 1988). Especially with regard to the fast technological development, the omission of usability concerns in favor of additional functionality has led to an increased complexity. This heightened complexity will potentially translate into "product return rate, future brand loyalty" and "delays in product usage" (Wood and Moreau 2006). Thus, reducing the usage uncertainty associated with an innovation is critical for both managers – in order to improve innovation acceptance.

Book Digital and Social Media Marketing

Download or read book Digital and Social Media Marketing written by Nripendra P. Rana and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-11 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines issues and implications of digital and social media marketing for emerging markets. These markets necessitate substantial adaptations of developed theories and approaches employed in the Western world. The book investigates problems specific to emerging markets, while identifying new theoretical constructs and practical applications of digital marketing. It addresses topics such as electronic word of mouth (eWOM), demographic differences in digital marketing, mobile marketing, search engine advertising, among others. A radical increase in both temporal and geographical reach is empowering consumers to exert influence on brands, products, and services. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and digital media are having a significant impact on the way people communicate and fulfil their socio-economic, emotional and material needs. These technologies are also being harnessed by businesses for various purposes including distribution and selling of goods, retailing of consumer services, customer relationship management, and influencing consumer behaviour by employing digital marketing practices. This book considers this, as it examines the practice and research related to digital and social media marketing.

Book Gender Design and Marketing

Download or read book Gender Design and Marketing written by Gloria Moss and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Product and service designers place increasing emphasis on the colour, form and appearance of what their organization offers and the language with which they describe it. Gloria Moss' erudite, sophisticated and fascinating book, guides the reader to an understanding of the way gender influences our visual perception. In this wide-ranging book the author explores design, visual aesthetics, language and communication, by drawing on an exhaustive range of primary sources of research from psychology, design, branding and communication. The lessons that emerge offer challenges to organizations both in the way in which their design and marketing is perceived by men and women, and how the make-up of their workforce may limit their ability to appreciate and address the diversity of customers' preferences. The challenge for management is to overcome these limitations and ensure that an organization's products and services mirror preferences of customers rather than those of senior managers.

Book Concept Research in Food Product Design and Development

Download or read book Concept Research in Food Product Design and Development written by Howard R. Moskowitz and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-02-28 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concepts are critical for the development and marketing of products and services. They constitute the blueprint for these products and services, albeit at the level of consumers rather than at the technical level. A good product concept can help make the product a success by guiding developers and advertising in the right direction. Yet, there is a dearth of both practical and scientific information about how to create and evaluate concepts. There has been little or no focus on establishing knowledge bases for concepts. Concept development is too often relegated to the so-called “fuzzy front end.” Concept Research in Food Product Design and Development remedies this inattention to product concepts by providing a unique treatment of concepts for the business professional as well as for research scientists. The book begins with simple principles of concepts, moves forward to methods for testing concepts, and then on to more substantive areas such as establishing validity, testing internationally and with children, creating databases, and selling in new methods for concept testing. The book combines a “how to” business book with a detailed treatment of the different facets of concept research. As such, the book represents a unique contribution to business applications in food, and consumer research methods. The book is positioned specifically for foods, to maintain a focus on a coherent set of topics. Concept Research in Food Product Design and Development appeals to a wide variety of audiences: R&D, marketing, sensory analysts, and universities alike. Corporate R&D professionals will learn how to create strong concepts. Marketers will recognize how concepts are at the heart of their business. Sensory analysts will find the book a natural extension of their interest in product features. University students will understand how concept research is a critical part of the “consumer-connection.” Concept Research in Food Product Design and Development is the definitive, innovative text in describing how to create, analyze, and capitalize upon new product concepts.

Book Graphic Design in Marketing

Download or read book Graphic Design in Marketing written by Lina Zhao and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a thesis that explores what kind of design systems and processes can be applied in marketing to successfully place localized products into new markets. The objective is to build up a helpful design system with clear research and analysis resulting in successful, practical, and effective design in marketing. Since the markets are changing constantly with the development of society, the marketing for the local products is being transferred to new international markets, which leads to changes in demand for the graphic design of products requiring understanding of both local and international cultures instead of just specific localized areas. The final thesis focuses on two main parts: (1) Design systems - What is the system to help designers succeed in new markets and in marketing, and how do designers apply that system (2) Research and analysis process - Which aspects of products should designers pay attention to and what kind of methods could be applied into research and analysis of the markets of products. The thesis starts with the definition of the tea market in China and the U.S., then emphasizes a study of tea marketing and tea design both in the Chinese and U.S. markets, analyzes the impacts of tea designs in current markets to China and U.S. marketing, review of successful tea designs with local features in the Chinese market that have not survived in U.S. market, and solutions to retain local cultural features in design in adaptive U.S. market to reflect two main parts mentioned in the second paragraph. Overall, the thesis is meant to encourage graphic designers to explore how to market a local brand globally and to retain local features in the design.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conventional thinking has brands trying to give customers what they want. But what if wanting is no longer enough? A customer may want a great mobile phone, for example, and there are many options. But a huge majority will choose the now iconic iPhone, even waiting long hours in lines to purchase the latest model. This is not simply about wanting. It’s about desire. The question for brand marketers is how to make that elusive magic happen. In Desire by Design, Jean-Pierre Lacroix unravels the irrational element of desire and explains how brands, designers, and marketers can tap into the emotional high that elicits such passion for certain brands. Jean-Pierre shapes high-level ideas and insights from neuroscience, cult fanaticism, and behavioral psychology into practical worksheets that explain the how-to in creating desire for a brand. Using design philosophies he has developed through his thirty years of experience, Jean-Pierre offers interesting history, insights from scientific research, and actionable advice to lead brands from a “want” category to the much-coveted “desire” space in the marketplace.

Book Consumer Packaging Strategy

Download or read book Consumer Packaging Strategy written by Huda Khan and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-08-18 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry is dominated by major Western brands. The dominance of such major brands extends to burgeoning Asian markets. These conglomerates often rely on packaging as a strategic tool to entice Asian consumers. This book illustrates how packaging as a marketing tool is more than simply changing the label or translating the brand into vernacular language. It examines how different packaging elements (e.g. information, imagery, packaging type) can help to communicate product values to Asian consumers. Drawing upon rich knowledge of the Asian CPG markets with extensive findings from fieldworks in the key Asian markets, this book explains how Western brands are localising their packaging design in Asian markets. It provides invaluable insight into how major Western CPG brands have relied heavily on their packaging strategies to compete not only against domestic brands but also against other foreign brands. The book includes in-depth interviews with brand managers of several major Western CPG brands and retailers, and sheds light on emerging trends of CPG packaging in Asia.
