The purpose is to show what made America great. The many people, who were at the right place at the right time, preserved the spirit that made the United States not only free but unknowingly helped it become a great nation. What they said and accomplished should be preserved for all future generation to know and appreciate. It has been chronicled in numerous ways, but bears repeating. As John Dewey said in 1916, “Democracy must be reborn in each generation and education is the midwife.”

Book excerpt: For years I've kept my secrets. Kept the darkest, most twisted parts of myself buried from everyone around me. My need to destroy those responsible for tainting my life, ruining the person I was, the person I could've been, burns hotter with every passing day. And when I finally get the chance to confront one and unleash the monster he turned me into, I walk straight into the other. The one who haunts my nightmares. The girl who torments me relentlessly. The angel who could have saved me... but damned me instead. It's my turn to use her. As bait. Instead of leading me to destruction, this time she's leading me to the source of my torture. She might not remember me from all those years ago, but one thing is for sure, by the time I'm done, she won't be able to forget who I am. Once and for all she will understand the pain she caused. Because one way or another, I'm going to reap devastation on those who wronged me. Starting with Macie. Dear Reader, TDYR is the sixth book in my Maddison Kings University series and the first book in Leon's duet. It's a dark bully romance that contains mature content and demanding alphaholes that some readers may find disturbing. You have been warned.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lamentations is a book that has never had a place of honor at the table of Christian spirituality. This is an unfortunate state of affairs because its challenging poetry has much to offer. This volume explores the how the biblical book of Lamentations may be engaged afresh so that it can function as Holy Scripture for the ekklesia. Four main chapters consider issues in hermeneutics, exegesis, the use of Lamentations in worship, and pastoral reflections. These chapters have been supplemented by seventeen reception history studies written by an international team of Jewish and Christian scholars. These studies introduce a wide range of interpretations and uses of the book of Lamentations from throughout the history of Judaism and Christianity. They include examinations of the use of Lamentations in Isaiah 40-55, the Targum, Rashi, and contemporary Jewish thought, the Patristic period, Calvin, Jewish and Christian worship, music, Rembrandt, and psychological and feminist interpretation. Appendices include new English translations of LXX Lamentations and Targum Lamentations.

Download or read book National Identity and Great Power Status in Russia and Japan written by Tadashi Anno and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having suffered military defeat at the hands of advanced Western powers in the 1850s, Russia and Japan embarked upon a program of catch-up and modernization in the late-19th Century. While the two states sought in the main to replicate the successes of the advanced great powers of the West, the discourse on national identity among Russian and Japanese elite in this period evinced a considerable degree of ambivalence about Western dominance. With the onset of the crisis of power and legitimacy in the international order ushered in by the First World War, this ambivalence shifted towards more open revolt against Western dominance. The rise of communism in Russia and militarism in Japan were significantly shaped by their search for national distinctiveness and international status. This book is a comparative historical study of how the two "non-Western" great powers emerged as challengers to the prevailing international order in the interwar period, each seeking to establish an alternative order. Specifically, Anno examines the parallels and contrasts in the ways in which the Russian and Japanese elites sought to define the two countries’ national identities, and how those definitions influenced the two countries’ attitudes toward the prevailing order. At the intersection of international relations theory, comparative politics, and of historical sociology, this book offers an integrated perspective on the rise of challengers to the liberal international order in the early-twentieth century.
