Book The Kjeldahl Method for Organic Nitrogen

Download or read book The Kjeldahl Method for Organic Nitrogen written by R. B. Bradstreet and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kjeldahl Method for Organic Nitrogen volume presents a broad and comprehensive survey of the method as applied to natural products and organic nitrogen compounds. The quantitative determination of an element as widely distributed as nitrogen is of great importance, and the truth of this is borne out by the tremendous amount of literature published throughout the years. The analysis of nitrogen can be divided into two classes: inorganic and organic. This book is concerned only with organic nitrogen compounds, and specifically their determination by the Kjeldahl method. The book opens with a chapter on the historical background and the work leading to the evolution of the method. This is followed by separate chapters that discuss each of the several divisions of the method, e.g., salt addition, reduction, oxidation, catalysts, distillation.

Book Handbook of Water Analysis Third Edition

Download or read book Handbook of Water Analysis Third Edition written by Leo M.L. Nollet and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-07-29 with total page 999 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensively revised and updated, Handbook of Water Analysis, Third Edition provides current analytical techniques for detecting various compounds in water samples. Maintaining the detailed and accessible style of the previous editions, this third edition demonstrates water sampling and preservation methods by enumerating different ways to measure chemical and radiological characteristics. It gives step-by-step descriptions of separation, residue determination, and clean-up techniques. See What’s New in the Second Edition: Includes five new chapters covering ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, and petroleum hydrocarbons, as well as organoleptical and algal analysis methodology Compares older methods still frequently used with recently developed protocols, and examines future trends Features a new section regarding organoleptical analysis of water acknowledging that ultimately the consumers of drinking water have the final vote over its quality with respect to odor, flavor, and color The book covers the physical, chemical, and other relevant properties of various substances found in water. It then describes the sampling, cleanup, extraction, and derivatization procedures, and concludes with detection methods. Illustrated with procedure flow charts and schematics, the text includes numerous tables categorizing methods according to type of component, origin of the water sample, parameters and procedures used, and application range. With contributions from international experts, the book guides you through the entire scientific investigation starting with a sampling strategy designed to capture the real-world situation as closely as possible, and ending with an adequate chemometrical and statistical treatment of the acquired data. By organizing data into more than 300 tables, graphs, and charts, and supplementing the text with equations and illustrations, the editors distill a wealth of knowledge into a single accessible reference.

Book Colorimetric Determination of Nitrate Plus Nitrite in Water by Enzymatic Reduction Automated Discrete Analyzer Methods

Download or read book Colorimetric Determination of Nitrate Plus Nitrite in Water by Enzymatic Reduction Automated Discrete Analyzer Methods written by Charles J Patton and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-06-16 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents work at the U.S. Geological Sur- vey (USGS) National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL) to validate enzymatic reduction, colorimetric determinative meth- ods for nitrate + nitrite in filtered water by automated discrete analysis. In these standard- and low-level methods (USGS I-2547-11 and I-2548-11), nitrate is reduced to nitrite with nontoxic, soluble nitrate reductase rather than toxic, granular, copperized cadmium used in the longstanding USGS auto- mated continuous-flow analyzer methods I-2545-90 (NWQL laboratory code 1975) and I-2546-91 (NWQL laboratory code 1979). Colorimetric reagents used to determine resulting nitrite in aforementioned enzymatic- and cadmium-reduction meth- ods are identical. The enzyme used in these discrete analyzer methods, designated AtNaR2 by its manufacturer, is produced by recombinant expression of the nitrate reductase gene from wall cress (Arabidopsis thaliana) in the yeast Pichia pastoris. Unlike other commercially available nitrate reductases we evaluated, AtNaR2 maintains high activity at 37°C and is not inhibited by high-phenolic-content humic acids at reaction temperatures in the range of 20°C to 37°C. These previously unrecognized AtNaR2 characteristics are essential for success- ful performance of discrete analyzer nitrate + nitrite assays (henceforth, DA-AtNaR2) described here.

Book The Kjeldahl Method 140 Years

Download or read book The Kjeldahl Method 140 Years written by Jaime Aguirre and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-07-05 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive survey of the Kjeldahl method and its modifications. It covers all relevant topics, including sample digestion and its variables, distillation and determination of ammonia, equipment development, and concludes with a review of the literature published on the method. Since its introduction in 1883, the Kjeldahl method has been an essential analytical tool for nitrogen determination in research, academic and industrial laboratories. This makes the history of the Kjeldahl method of outstanding relevance to graduate students, postgraduate students, researchers, teachers, and laboratory staff in the fields of analytical chemistry, food/feed analysis, animal/human nutrition, soil/water analysis, and so forth. "This method has probably been applied in one modification or another to every possible form of nitrogen, and in perhaps more laboratories than almost any other single type of analytical method" (Kirk, 1950).
