Book Data Driven System Engineering

Download or read book Data Driven System Engineering written by James Wen and published by James Wen. This book was released on 2022-02-04 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides full scope of automotive ECU development activities including cybersecurity and safety plus SOTIF. Every computing system has two, and only two attributes: Data Value and Data timing, which represent fully the system functionalities from the system external behavior point of view. The data driven system engineering is the approach to develop the system by focusing on the two attributes mentioned above, in which, the data values are derived by the system operation concept design, and the data timing is derived by the system latency design. Based on which, this book provides a full range of system and software engineering development activities: Requirement Elicitation Requirement Engineering System and Software Architecture Design System Operation Concept Design System and Software Structure Design Electronic Architect Design Functionality Allocation Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) Safety including SOTIF Cybersecurity (full compliant with UN ECE 155/156) System and software Verification System and Software Integration and Verification System and Software Black Box Verification each of which has its own clearly defined scope and approach, which is different from the conventional development, in some cases even different from some ISO standards, for example: Safety Development: the safety requirements for every part in a vehicle are cascaded from the vehicle safety requirements, which is different from the Concept Phase in the Part 3 of ISO 26262, and the functional safety development will be fully covered by (1) Reliability (2) Availability (3) Quality. Error Detection and Protection: there are only two types of errors to be detected in a computing system: Data Value error and Data Timing error, to detect which, there are only two aspects to be considered: (1) input data (2) middle data and output data in addition to the platform error detection. The approaches of detection and protection include (1) data transfer protocol check, (2) data range and reasonable value check, (3) execution time check and control. FMEA: this book provides the optimized approach by following the data relationships between the input data, middle data and output data, which will be both inductive and deductive, and re-use the system operation concept that is built at the system development first phase, to make the development efficient. Cybersecurity: this book provides the full solution to cover the UN ECE 155 by implementing three aspects: (1) Trusted contents in the ECU (2) Authenticated access to the ECU (3) Authenticated communication with the ECU. Requirement Engineering: This book makes the goal and scope of requirement engineering in the computing system development specific, accurate and measurable by defining the scope as: the requirement engineering is to use the computer executable information to describe the system under development which consists only two types of information: Signal and Test Case, and defining the requirement quality measurement as: (1) Signals, either input or output signals, shall be computer readable. (2) Test cases shall be executable in the system. System Architecture Design: The goal of system architecture design is to provide the platform that transfers and transforms the input signal to become the required output signal via some middle data. This book introduces the following system functional modulizations based on the AUTOSAR that satisfies a generic automotive ECU structure: (1) Feature Function (2) Diagnostic Service (3) Cybersecurity Function (4) Serial Signal Manager (5) Application Mode Manager (6) AUTOSAR, and based on the characteristics of those functions, the book provides the approach to design the electronic architecture and allocate the functions to the architecture.

Book Global Distributed Design of a Formula SAE Race Car

Download or read book Global Distributed Design of a Formula SAE Race Car written by Trenton J. Carpenter and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Future engineers need to be competitive in today's expanding global industries. They must have capabilities beyond standard engineering practice. In an attempt to develop students capable of working in a globally distributed design and manufacturing environment, Oregon State University (OSU) and Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg Ravensburg (DHBW) have developed a senior capstone design project in which students design, build, test and race two identical Formula SAE race cars as a fully collaborative effort. The main intention of this project was to develop an innovative educational experience for students entering into today's globalized engineering society. In order to accomplish that goal, the project's team management structure had to be developed to allow the project to be sustainable year-to-year and yet highly functional. Data exchange and communication tools were developed to allow students to accomplish their everyday tasks as a member of a distributed design team. Finally global supply chain issues were addressed through the creation and implementation of a custom part information tool allowing parts to be distributed to the two schools. After three years of developing collaboration tools and procedures, students were able to learn and apply practical skills beyond the classroom in an international engineering setting. Ultimately, students participating in this project would become highly desirable engineering graduates through their experience working as a member of an internationally distributed design and manufacturing team. This paper discusses the steps taken to develop the management, data and communication tools necessary for OSU and DHBW to work collaboratively on a Formula SAE racing vehicle. This paper was also intended as an outline for other schools; it conveys the lessons learned and the requirements necessary for universities to collaborate on student engineering projects.

Book Design and Optimization of a Formula SAE Racecar Chassis and Suspension

Download or read book Design and Optimization of a Formula SAE Racecar Chassis and Suspension written by Reid F. Allen and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designing and constructing a chassis and suspension system for a Formula SAE racecar is a highly complex task involving the interaction of hundreds of parts that all perform an essential function. This thesis examines the critical factors in designing and implementing a Formula SAE chassis from the ground up, with a focus on the performance and optimization of the vehicle as an entire system rather than a collection of individual parts. Analysis includes examining the stiffness, strength, and weight of each part, as well as design verification. The thesis will serve as a summary of the knowledge that I have accumulated over four years of personally designing and overseeing the manufacturing of the MIT Motorsports suspension, provide insight into the design of the MY2009 vehicle, and act as a guide for future chassis designers.

Book Design of Under tray for a Formula SAE Race Car Using CFD Analysis

Download or read book Design of Under tray for a Formula SAE Race Car Using CFD Analysis written by Oscar David Salamanca Gómez and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project seeks to perform the preliminary design of an aerodynamic diffuser to be used in a three-dimensional model of a formula-type vehicle, using computational tools. For the development of this project, the state of the art was taken into account regarding Formula SAE racing vehicles, as well as the general literature on aerodynamics in racing vehicles. The development of the design involves three key moments: 1) The development of a theoretical framework, which defines the computational tools to be made and the physical models that these tools use. 2) Definition and optimization of the geometry in two dimensions that will compose the main structure of the diffuser. 3) Definition and optimization of the final geometry, in three dimensions, of the aerodynamic device. The parameters that were used for the optimization of the geometries, both in two and three dimensions, were the input angle and input area ratio.

Book A Phenomenological Knock Model for the Development of Future Engine Concepts

Download or read book A Phenomenological Knock Model for the Development of Future Engine Concepts written by Alexander Fandakov and published by Springer Vieweg. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The majority of 0D/1D knock models available today are known for their poor accuracy and the great effort needed for their calibration. Alexander Fandakov presents a novel, extensively validated phenomenological knock model for the development of future engine concepts within a 0D/1D simulation environment that has one engine-specific calibration parameter. Benchmarks against the models commonly used in the automotive industry reveal the huge gain in knock boundary prediction accuracy achieved with the approach proposed in this work. Thus, the new knock model contributes substantially to the efficient design of spark ignition engines employing technologies such as full-load exhaust gas recirculation, water injection, variable compression ratio or lean combustion. About the Author Alexander Fandakov holds a PhD in automotive powertrain engineering from the Institute of Internal Combustion Engines and Automotive Engineering (IVK) at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. Currently, he is working as an advanced powertrain development engineer in the automotive industry.
