Book Aircraft Performance Theory for Pilots

Download or read book Aircraft Performance Theory for Pilots written by Peter J. Swatton and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-30 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new European Joint Aviation Requirements (JARs) lay down rules governing the minimum levels of performance which must be attained by every type of public transport aeroplane. These rules cover matters such as weight, altitude and temperature, take-off and landing distance, cruise flight level and speed, and descent angle and rate. The subject of aircraft performance forms an important part of all JAR Flight Crew Licensing examinations for commercial and airline transport pilot licences, and this book provides a clear but authoritative text on a difficult topic. It will also be of interest to commercial pilots needing to upgrade their annual ground test to JAR standards, and to flight planners, operations controllers and airport operators.

Book Kinetics of Sintering Chromium Carbide

Download or read book Kinetics of Sintering Chromium Carbide written by W. G. Lidman and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sintering of chromium carbide under pressure was investigated in order to study the kinetics of grain growth and densification during this process. Densification was accompanied by grain growth, and density and grain size seem to be interdependent during this stage. Grain growth continued after densification was complete, and for this stage an activation energy for grain growth was obtained.

Book Progress Toward Development of Civil Airworthiness Criteria for Powered Lift Aircraft

Download or read book Progress Toward Development of Civil Airworthiness Criteria for Powered Lift Aircraft written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the results of a joint NASA-FAA research program directed toward development of civil airworthiness flight-criteria for power-lift transports. Tentative criteria are proposed for performance and handling characteristics for powered-lift transport aircraft in commercial service. The aircraft considered are primarily wing-supported vehicles which rely upon the propulsion system for a significant portion of lift and control. VTOL aircraft are excluded. The flight criteria treat primarily the approach and landing flight phases, because it is in these flight phases that the greatest use of powered lift is made, and the greatest differences from conventional aircraft tend to appear. Consequently, the flight task tends to become most demanding. The tentative criteria are based on simulation and flight experience with a variety of powered-lift concepts. These concepts have not employed flight director, advanced displays, or advanced augmentation systems. The tentative criteria proposed were formulated by a working group comprised of representatives of the U.S., British, French, and Canadian airworthiness authorities, as well as research personnel of the NASA and other organizations. It is recognized that more work is needed to assure general applicability of the critera. (Author).

Book Synthesis of Subsonic Airplane Design

Download or read book Synthesis of Subsonic Airplane Design written by E. Torenbeek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 607 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the education of aeronautical engineers at Delft University of Technology started in 1940 under tae inspiring leadership of Professor H.J. van der Maas, much emphasis has been placed on the design of aircraft as part of the student's curriculum. Not only is aircraft design an optional subject for thesis work, but every aeronautical student has to carry out a preliminary airplane design in the course of his study. The main purpose of this preliminary design work is to enable the student to synthesize the knowledge ob tained separately in courses on aerodynamics, aircraft performances, stability and con trol, aircraft structures, etc. The student's exercises in preliminary design have been directed through the years by a number of staff members of the Department of Aerospace Engineering in Delft. The author of this book, Mr. E. Torenbeek, has made a large contribution to this part of the study programme for many years. Not only has he acquired vast experience in teaching airplane design at university level, but he has also been deeply involved in design-oriented re search, e.g. developing rational design methods and systematizing design information. I am very pleased that this wealth of experience, methods and data is now presented in this book.

Book Introduction to Flight Testing

Download or read book Introduction to Flight Testing written by James W. Gregory and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-05-19 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Flight Testing Introduction to Flight Testing Provides an introduction to the basic flight testing methods employed on general aviation aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles Introduction to Flight Testing provides a concise introduction to the basic flight testing methods employed on general aviation aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles for courses in aeronautical engineering. There is particular emphasis on the use of modern on-board instruments and inexpensive, off-the-shelf portable devices that make flight testing accessible to nearly any student. This text presents a clear articulation of standard methods for measuring aircraft performance characteristics. Topics covered include aircraft and instruments, digital data acquisition techniques, flight test planning, the standard atmosphere, uncertainty analysis, level flight performance, airspeed calibration, stall, climb and glide, take-off and landing, level turn, static and dynamic longitudinal stability, lateral-directional stability, and flight testing of unmanned aircraft systems. Unique to this book is a detailed discussion of digital data acquisition (DAQ) techniques, which are an integral part of modern flight test programs. This treatment includes discussion of the analog-to-digital conversion, sample rate, aliasing, and filtering. These critical details provide the flight test engineer with the insight needed to understand the capabilities and limitations of digital DAQ. Key features: Provides an introduction to the basic flight testing methods and instrumentation employed on general aviation aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles. Includes examples of flight testing on general aviation aircraft such as Cirrus, Diamond, and Cessna aircraft, along with unmanned aircraft vehicles. Suitable for courses on Aircraft Flight Test Engineering. Introduction to Flight Testing provides resources and guidance for practitioners in the rapidly-developing field of drone performance flight test and the general aviation flight test community.
