Book Advances in Fracture Research

Download or read book Advances in Fracture Research written by K. Salama and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 3063 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Held every four years, the International Congress on Fracture is the premier international forum for the exchange of ideas between scientists and engineers involved in producing and using materials resistant to fracture and fatigue. This major six-volume work which forms the proceedings of the Seventh International Congress on Fracture therefore provides the most comprehensive account available of the current status of research into fracture and fatigue, and the application of this knowledge to the design, fabrication and operation of materials and structures. As such, it will be an essential reference for materials scientists and mechanical, structural, aeronautical and design engineers with an interest in fracture and its prevention.

Book Deformation and Fracture Behavior of Ti Al Nb Cr Mo Alloys with a Microstructure at Ambient Temperature

Download or read book Deformation and Fracture Behavior of Ti Al Nb Cr Mo Alloys with a Microstructure at Ambient Temperature written by Michael Steiner Kesler and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, attempts to further improve the mechanical properties of these alloys were undertaken by reducing the volume fraction of the ...-phase and controlling the scale of the ... + ... microstructure through the aging of a meta-stable parent phase, the ...-phase, that was quenched-in to room temperature. Additions of ...-stabilizing elements, Cr and Mo, were needed in order to quench-in the ...-phase. The room temperature mechanical properties were evaluated by compression, Vickers' indentation and single edge notch bend tests at room temperature. The formation of the large ...-laths at prior ...-phase grain boundaries was found to be detrimental to ductility due to strain localization in this coarsened region of the microstructure. Furthermore, samples aged from ...-phase single crystals proved to have excellent combinations of strength and ductility under compression. In the single crystals, microcracking did not develop until much larger plastic strains were reached. Lowering the volume fraction of the ...-phase proved to enhance the fracture toughness in these alloys.

Book Mechanical Properties of Electron beam melted Molybdenum and Dilute Molybdenum rhenium Alloys

Download or read book Mechanical Properties of Electron beam melted Molybdenum and Dilute Molybdenum rhenium Alloys written by William D. Klopp and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of molybdenum and three dilute molybdenum-rhenium alloys was undertaken to determine the effects of rhenium on the low temperature ductility and other mechanical properties of molybdenum. Alloys containing 3.9, 5.9, and 7.7 atomic percent rhenium exhibited lower ductile-brittle transition temperatures than did the unalloyed molybdenum. The maximum improvement in the annealed condition was observed for molybdenum - 7.7 rhenium, which had a ductile-brittle transition temperature approximately 200 C (360 F) lower than that for unalloyed molybdenum. Rhenium additions also increased the low and high temperature tensile strengths and the high temperature creep strength of molybdenum. The mechanical behavior of dilute molybdenum-rhenium alloys is similar to that observed for dilute tungsten-rhenium alloys.
