Book excerpt: He was one of the most popular lay preachers and Christian apologists of his day: Sir Robert Anderson devoutly believed that the Bible was the inerrant word of God, and in this popular 1881 book-a companion to his Daniel in the Critics' Den-he mounts a defense of the prophetic Old Testament Book of Daniel, an early example of apocalyptic philosophy in Christianity. Students of the Bible will appreciate this historically valuable attempt to set straight the many controversies surrounding Daniel regarding its authorship and even the date of its writing. And anyone interested in the apocalyptic fervor of modern-day fundamentalist Christianity will find this an instructive and enlightening read. While at Scotland Yard, Irish police official and religious scholar SIR ROBERT ANDERSON (1841-1918) helped investigate the Jack the Ripper murders, but he is best remembered for his works of Bible study, including Forgotten Truths and The Silence of God.

Book Exile Old Testament Jewish and Christian Conceptions

Download or read book Exile Old Testament Jewish and Christian Conceptions written by Bruce D. Chilton and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-12-06 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The exiles of Israel and Judah cast a long shadow over the biblical text and the whole subsequent history of Judaism. Scholars have long recognized the importance of the theme of exile for the Hebrew Bible. Indeed, critical study of the Old Testament has, at least since Wellhausen, been dominated by the Babylonian exile of Judah. In 586 BC, several factors, including the destruction of Jerusalem, the cessation of the sacrificial cult and of the monarchy, and the experience of the exile, began to cause a transformation of Israelite religion which supplied the contours of the larger Judaic framework within which the various forms of Judaism, including the early Christian movement, developed. Given the importance of the exile to the development of Judaism and Christianity even to the present day, this volume delves into the conceptions of exile which contributed to that development during the formative period.

Book The Commandment to Restore and to Build Jerusalem

Download or read book The Commandment to Restore and to Build Jerusalem written by John Nevins (J. N. ) Andrews and published by Waymark Books. This book was released on 2011-12 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Commandment to Restore and to Build Jerusalem" is a study on the book of Ezra by Adventist pioneer John Nevins (J.N.) Andrews. First written in 1865, this short book proves without a doubt that the starting date of the 2,300 year prophecy of Daniel 8:14 was in the year 457 BC. Andrews weighs up the arguments for and against 457 BC as the year of the decree, substantiating the date with authoritative historical evidence. The reader is systematically taken through the scriptures and shown very clearly that the three decrees of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes as a whole make up the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem. One impetus for Andrews' book was to lay to rest the theory proposed by William C. Thurman in his book entitled "The Sealed Book of Daniel Opened." In his introduction, Andrews dismissed most of Thurman's claims as not even worthy of consideration. One point Andrews felt must be addressed, however was Thurman's contention that it was Cyrus, not Artaxerxes, who issued the command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem. The interpretation of the 2300 days, and their start date, hinged on the correct historical placement of this decree. Thurman's "unsealing" of Daniel was based on his contention that the sixty-nine weeks were to be dated from the decree of Cyrus. In "The Commandment to Restore and Build Jerusalem," Andrews provides ample biblical evidence to disprove Thurman's contention, demonstrating from scripture that the 2300 days commenced at the decree of Artaxerxes, and with that, that the Adventist interpretation of the 2300 days was and still is correct.

Book Chronological Aspects of the Life of Christ

Download or read book Chronological Aspects of the Life of Christ written by Harold W. Hoehner and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2010-08-10 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Jesus Christ entered into the history of our world. Christianity, therefore, has historical basis. The backbone of history is chronology. Whereas history is a systematic account of events in relation to a nation, institution, science, or art; chronology is a science of time. It seeks to establish and arrange the dates of past events in their proper sequence. Thus chronology serves as a necessary framework upon which the events of history must be fitted. In this book (the author) attempts to establish certain fixed dates in our Lord's life." - Dr. Harold W. Hoehner. Dr. Hoehner has gathered a vast amount of data, both from Scripture and extrabiblical sources, to support his conclusions concerning key dates in the life of our Lord, among them: - The Date of Christ's Birth - The Commencement of Christ's Ministry - The Duration of Christ's Ministry - The Year of Christ's Crucifixion He carefully documents his position and compares the date available--including a study of Greek words, Roman law, and Jewish customs and prophecy.

Book The Decree to Restore Jerusalem Premium Edition

Download or read book The Decree to Restore Jerusalem Premium Edition written by Ryan J. Leaver and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Currently, the Christian Church is not accurately teaching the second Coming of Jesus Christ. The Church will try to tell you Christ will appear prior to the final 1,335 days of persecution described in Daniel 12:12 which is untrue. Jesus Christ clearly reveals himself in Revelation 6:12-16 for a second time when the 6th Seal is broken and we meet Jesus Christ in the air with new Christ-like eternal bodies. This book historically points out that our American President who parades around incompetently may in fact be the 4th Beast or 8th King according to Daniel 7:23-25 and 9:27. 16 spectacular full color original tempera and oil on canvas paintings made that break and accurately complete the 7th Seal and the New Jerusalem, Israel. We hope you like it and order a copy for your church and loved ones. Thank you. Ryan J. Leaver (406) 992-4063. P.O. Box 513, Three Forks, Montana 59752
