Book The Decomposition of the Feldspars Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Decomposition of the Feldspars Classic Reprint written by Allerton S. Cushman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-19 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Decomposition of the Feldspars Since the feldspars contain comparatively large quantities of the soluble alkaline and alkaline-earth bases, it was thought that an esti mation of the soluble salts would permit the degree of decomposition in both dry and wet ground powders to be determined. Our work has shown, however, that the analysis of the solution can not furnish a measure of the limits of the reactions which take place. The reasons for this will appear later. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Feldspars of the New England and North Appalachian States AS the use of domestic materials has increased, the manufacturer has generally depended on the results of tests of samples submitted. The crude materials differ SO greatly from the materials purchased, and the treatment necessary to prepare crude material for use in volves such an intimate acquaintance with its peculiarities that the users had further cause to neglect to acquaint themselves with the details of its mining and preparation. The investigations presented in this bulletin have been undertaken by the bureau with a view to a better understanding of the conditions which confront the producer of commercial feldspar and also with the Object of determining wherein the various deposits of feldspar differ. This information will enable the manufacturer to choose the source of supply which is best suited to his needs, and in case a change is necessary to choose more intelligently the location from which to draw for his future supply. Mica concentrations in the pegmatites, however, appear tobe small, and most of the books are SO marred by structural defects that they are salable only as scrap mica. Descriptions Of 29 pegmatite mines and prospects are given. The more important mines are discussed in detail, and detailed maps and other diagrams Of the pegmatites exposed in them are presented. Book A Study of the Decomposition of Silicates by Barium Salts

Download or read book A Study of the Decomposition of Silicates by Barium Salts written by Gilbert Hayes Whiteford and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-29 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Study of the Decomposition of Silicates by Barium Salts: Dissertation Submitted to the Board of University Studies of the Johns Hopkins University in Partial Requirement for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Among the numerous reagents for the decomposition of silicate rocks both barium carbonate and barium chloride have been used separately. According to J. Lawrence Smith The chlo rid of barium has been lately proposed; but its decomposing pr0p erties are very feeble, as the chlorine in combination With the baryum is not liberated at a white heat, and few silicates are able to produce the decomposition. It may succeed with some of the feldspars, but decomposes very imperfectly even the micas. So it is rather a risk to employ it With an unknown substance. Book Classic and Advanced Ceramics

Download or read book Classic and Advanced Ceramics written by Robert B. Heimann and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-04-16 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the author's lectures to graduate students of geosciences, physics, chemistry and materials science, this didactic handbook covers basic aspects of ceramics such as composition and structure as well as such advanced topics as achieving specific functionalities by choosing the right materials. The focus lies on the thermal transformation processes of natural raw materials to arrive at traditional structural ceramics and on the general physical principles of advanced functional ceramics. The book thus provides practice-oriented information to readers in research, development and engineering on how to understand, make and improve ceramics and derived products, while also serving as a rapid reference for the practitioner. The choice of topics and style of presentation make it equally useful for chemists, materials scientists, engineers and mineralogists.
