Book A New Measurement of the Rare Decay Eta Pi0 Gamma Gamma with the Crystal Ball TAPS Detectors at the Mainz Microtron

Download or read book A New Measurement of the Rare Decay Eta Pi0 Gamma Gamma with the Crystal Ball TAPS Detectors at the Mainz Microtron written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new measurement of the rare, doubly radiative decay eta->pi0̂ gamma gamma was conducted with the Crystal Ball and TAPS multiphoton spectrometers together with the photon tagging facility at the Mainz Microtron MAMI. New data on the dependence of the partial decay width, Gamma(eta->pi0̂ gamma gamma), on the two-photon invariant mass squared, m2̂(gamma gamma), as well as a new, more precise value for the decay width, Gamma(eta->pi0̂ gamma gamma) = (0.33+/-0.03_tot) eV, are based on analysis of 1.2 x 103̂ eta->pi0̂ gamma gamma decays from a total of 6 x 107̂ eta mesons produced in the gamma p -> eta p reaction. The present results for dGamma(eta->pi0̂ gamma gamma)/dm2̂(gamma gamma) are in good agreement with previous measurements and recent theoretical calculations for this dependence.

Book The Decay Pi Gamma Gamma to Next to Leading Order in Chiral Perturbation Theory

Download or read book The Decay Pi Gamma Gamma to Next to Leading Order in Chiral Perturbation Theory written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pi° --> gamma gamma decay width is analyzed within the combined framework of Chiral Perturbation Theory and the 1/N{sub c} expansion up to order(p6) and order(p4 x 1/N{sub c}) in the decay amplitude. The eta' is explicitly included in the analysis. It is found that the decay width is enhanced by about 4% due to the isospin-breaking induced mixing of the pure U(3) states. This effect, which is of leading order in the low energy expansion, is shown to persist nearly unchanged at next to leading order. The chief prediction Gamma{sub pi}0{sub {yields}gamma gamma} = 8.10 eV is estimated to have an uncertainty of less than 1%. Observations on the eta and eta' can also be made, especially about their mixing, which is shown to be significantly affected by next to leading order corrections.

Book Search For the Rare Decay K L Pi0 Pi0 Gamma

Download or read book Search For the Rare Decay K L Pi0 Pi0 Gamma written by David Edward Smith and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes a search for the rare decay K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}{gamma} using data from the KTeV experiment, using the topology K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sub D}{sup 0}{gamma} (where {pi}{sub D}{sup 0} {yields} {gamma}e{sup +}e{sup -}). Due to Bose statistics and the real nature of the photon, the K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}{gamma} decay can proceed at lowest order only by the Cp conserving direct emission of an E2 photon. The decay vanishes to O(p{sup 4}) in chiral perturbation theory and is a probe of the theory to the sixth order. The primary background to this decay consists of K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sub D}{sup 0} events with one lost photon. The upper limit for the decay K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}{gamma} presented in this thesis is 2.32 x 10{sup -7} at the 90% confidence level. This upper limit was derived from both 1997 and 1999 data, using a blind analysis. The upper limit was derived from a Feldman-Cousins method, based on a weighted total of 0.53 data events in the signal region with an expected K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sub D}{sup 0} background of 0.37 {+-} 0.28 events. The previous upper limit for this decay was 5.6 x 10{sup -6} at the 90% confidence level.

Book Radiative Decays of the Psi Prime to All photon Final States

Download or read book Radiative Decays of the Psi Prime to All photon Final States written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of studies of selected radiative decays of the psi' to charmonium and non-charmonium states which decay into photons are presented. These studies were performed using a sample of 1.8 x 106 produced psi''s collected by the Crystal Ball detector at the SPEAR electron-positron storage ring. The branching ratios of the chi0, chi2, and eta'/sub c/ to two photons have been measured to be (4.5 +- 2.2 +- 2.0) x 10−4, (9.5 +- 2.9 +- 4.5) x 10−4 (first errors statistical, second systematic), and 1 x 10−2 (90% C.L.). The signal from the decay chain psi' .--. .gamma.chi0, chi0 .-->. .pi.°.pi.° has been observed with essentially no background. Using the observed line shape of the radiative photon in this reaction, the full width of the psi0 has been found to be 8.8 +- 1.3 +- 1.5 MeV/c2. In addition, the branching ratios of the chi0 and chi2 to .pi.°.pi.° have been measured to be (3.5 +- 0.3 +- 1.2) x 10−3 and (1.2 +- 0.2 +- 0.4) x 10−3; the branching ratios of the chi0 and chi2 to eta eta have been measured to be (2.8 +- 0.9 +- 1.3) x 10−3 and (8.4 +- 4.2 +- 4.0) x 10−4. The decays of the psi' to four non-charmonium states have been investigated. The branching ratios and upper limits of these decays have been normalized to the branching ratios of the corresponding decays from the J/psi which have been measured using a sample of 2.2 x 106 produced J/psi's collected by the Crystal Ball detector. The ratios of the psi' branching ratios to the J/psi branching ratios for the final states .gamma.eta, .gamma.eta', .gamma.theta, and .gamma.f have been measured to be

Book Search for the Decay D0 gamma gamma and Measurement of the Decay D0 pi 0 pi 0

Download or read book Search for the Decay D0 gamma gamma and Measurement of the Decay D0 pi 0 pi 0 written by James Paul Morris and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The Standard Model is the best current description of fundamental interactions and particles; however, the Standard Model has certain shortcomings which have driven particle physicists for the last 30 years to search for phenomena which provide evidence for the next theory beyond the Standard Model. To this end, using the BaBar detector, we search for evidence of the rare decay D* -> D0[pi];D0->[gamma][gamma]. The branching fraction of this decay is enhanced up to 200 times the standard model prediction in certain beyond-the-Standard-Model theories. A measurement of a significant branching fraction would provide evidence for a new theory of particle physics. We describe our search for this rare decay and an improved measurement of the associated decay, B(D0-> [pi]0 [pi]0) using an integrated luminosity corresponding to 470.5 fb−1 of e e− data collected by the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric ee− collider at SLAC from 1999-2007. We place an upper limit of B(D0->[gamma][gamma]) 2.51 X 10−6 at 90% confidence level and find B(D0-[pi]0[pi]0) = (8.4 " 0.1 " 0.4 " 0.3) X 10−4.

Book Measurement of Gamma in B to D K and B to D K Decays with a Dalitz Analysis of D to Ks Pi Pi

This book was released on 2005 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violating phase {gamma} with a Dalitz plot analysis of neutral D-meson decays to the K{sub S}{sup 0} {pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup +} final state from B{sup {-+}} {yields} D{sup (*)}K{sup {-+}} and B{sup {-+}} {yields} DK*{sup {-+}} decays, using a sample of 227 million B{bar B} pairs collected by the BABAR detector. We measure {gamma} = (67 {+-} 28 {+-} 13 {+-} 11){sup o}, where the first error is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third reflects the Dalitz model uncertainty. This result suffers from a two-fold ambiguity. The contribution to the Dalitz model uncertainty due to the description of the {pi}{pi} S-wave in D{sup 0} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup +}, evaluated using a K-matrix formalism, is found to be 3{sup o}.

Book Near Threshold Enhancement of the P P bar Mass Spectrum in J Psi Decay

Download or read book Near Threshold Enhancement of the P P bar Mass Spectrum in J Psi Decay written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We investigate the nature of the near-threshold enhancement in the p {bar p} invariant mass spectrum of the reaction J/[Psi] → [gamma] p {bar p} reported recently by the BES Collaboration. Using the Juelich N {bar N} model we show that the mass dependence of the p {bar p} spectrum close to the threshold can be reproduced by the S-wave p {bar p} final state interaction in the isospin I=1 state within the Watson-Migdal approach. However, because of our poor knowledge of the N {bar N} interaction near threshold and of the J/[Psi] → [gamma] p {bar p} reaction mechanism and in view of the controversial situation in the decay J/[Psi] → [pi]° p {bar p}, where no obvious signs of a p {bar p} final state interaction are seen, explanations other than final state interactions cannot be ruled out at the present stage.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present a Dalitz-plot analysis of charmless B{sup {+-}} decays to the final state {pi}{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup {-+}} using 210 fb{sup -1} of data recorded by the BABAR experiment at {radical}s = 10.58 GeV. We measure the branching fractions {Beta}(B{sup {+-}} {yields} {pi}{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup {-+}}) = (16.2 {+-} 1.2 {+-} 0.9) x 10{sup -6} and {Beta}(B{sup {+-}} {yields} {rho}{sup 0}(770){pi}{sup {+-}}) = (8.8 {+-} 1.0 {+-} 0.6{sub -0.7}{sup +0.1}) x 10{sup -6}. Measurements of branching fractions for the quasi-two-body decays B{sup {+-}} {yields} {rho}{sup 0}(1450){pi}{sup {+-}}, B{sup {+-}} {yields} f{sub 0}(980){pi}{sup {+-}} and B{sup {+-}} f{sub 2}(1270){pi}{sup {+-}} are also presented. They observe no charge asymmetries for the above modes, and there is no evidence for the decays B{sup {+-}} {yields} {chi}{sub c0}{pi}{sup {+-}}, B{sup {+-}} {yields} f{sub 0}(1370){pi}{sup {+-}} and B{sup {+-}} {yields} {sigma}{pi}{sup {+-}}.
