Little Louie, who killed his first man at age fifteen, organized a robbery to steal the Blue Diamond, a power symbol, that belonged to Al Capone. The heist goes bad. Rooky cops shoot Louie’s punch-drunk accomplice after he swallowed the diamond. A young surgeon, who lost his confidence in the Korean War, operates for the gunshot, but doesn’t find the diamond. The patient dies. The cops and a big-time politician claim the surgeon stole the diamond. The surgeon and a sexy reporter steal the body from the morgue to retrieve the diamond, but the hit man shoots a cop and kidnaps the reporter, the surgeon, and the corpse. The surgeon does an autopsy with a switchblade, finds the diamond, and stabs the mobster. The chase is on, through the streets of Chicago into Bubbly Creek and onto storm-tossed Lake Michigan. Download or read book Death the Last God written by Anne Geraghty and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-28 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anne Geraghty was a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist when her son, Tim Guest, author of My Life in Orange died suddenly. Her old life ended. She went on a search for her lost son. Where was he? What was he? Did he live on in some other realm? Or had he fallen into the darkness of oblivion? Her search for Tim became an exploration into the nature of death itself. We die as we have lived. Our lives are not like those of a C12th Tibetan, a C15th Cardinal or a Zen monk; we cannot, therefore, simply turn to old maps and myths of what happens when we die. We need a new narrative of death that embraces our modern understandings of our humanity and the workings of the universe. This book is the story of a grieving mother looking for her dead son, an investigation into death in our modern world, and an exploration of our struggles to live well in the ever-present shadow of death. It is not a book with answers; it is an invitation to look at death differently. This book offers fresh and original ideas about death and dying. And it will radically change your understanding of what death is.

Download or read book The Diamond written by Julie Baumgold and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2005-11-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Diamond is a brilliant, dazzling historical novel about a famous diamond—one of the biggest in the world—that passed from the hands of William Pitt’s grandfather to the French kings and Napoleon, linking many of the most famous personalities of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and serving as the centerpiece for a novel in every way as fascinating as Susan Sontag's The Volcano Lover or Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose. Rich with historical detail, characters, and nonstop drama, the story centers on the famous Regent diamond—once the largest and most beautiful diamond in the world—which was discovered in India in the late seventeenth century and bought by the governor of the East India Company, a cunning nabob, trader, and ex-pirate named Thomas Pitt. His son brought it to London, where a Jewish diamond-cutter of genius took two years to fashion it into one of the world's greatest gems. A glittering cast of characters parades through The Diamond: a mesmerizing Napoleon and the devoted Las Cases, stuck on Saint Helena with their memories; Louis XIV and his brother, the dissolute Monsieur; Madame, the German princess who married Monsieur; the Scottish financier John Law and Saint-Simon, who sold Pitt's diamond to Madame's depraved son; the depressed Louis XV; and Madame de Pompadour. Here too are the families, the Pitts in England and the Bonapartes in France; the men of Saint Helena; nobles and thieves; Indian diamond merchants and financiers—nearly everyone of interest and importance from the late seventeenth through the early nineteenth century. Written with enormous verve and ambition, The Diamond is a treat, a plum pudding of a novel filled with one delicious, funny, disgraceful episode after another. It is grand history and even grander fiction—a towering work of imagination, research, and narrative skill.

Diamonds life story comes to a wonderful ending when her white and black relatives unite in love, as one big happy blended family. Book Review BlueInk Review of Diamonds Fate (paperback 978-1-4568-8877-0) revised by Author Angie Singleton, 09/15/2011 This intriguing novel captures the tumultuous life of Diamond Pearl Hope, a biracial news reporter living in Florida. Diamond was born to a white father and African-American mother. Due to the death of her mother, Diamond is forced to go live in a household with family members who frequently torment her, because of her light skin and interracial heritage. Diamond gets adopted by a white couple and experiences life on the other side of the color line, after the horrific death of her grandmother. When Diamond graduates from college, she meets and marries a man twice her age. She learns, firsthand, the intricacies of the criminal justice system, after getting arrested for assaulting her husband, who attacks her in a drunken rage. Struggling to put her life back together, Diamond finds strength in her Christian faith, caring friends and a loving family, including her newly discovered biological father, whom she reconciles with. In the end, Diamond not only wins an award for investigative reporting of domestic violence, she makes peace with those family members whod hurt her in the past; and her black and white relatives unite in a joyful celebration. Written in a distinctive voice Diamonds Fate conjures up past and current history making events such as the O.J. Simpson trial with telling details. References are made to popular music, movies and television shows that influenced society for generations. While the book contains idiosyncrasies or elements not typically found in most novels, such as: the authors personal photo album included in the back of the book and a frequency of italicized words and paragraphs, the story is compelling enough to make for an exciting, enjoyable and enlightening read. Readers interested in Christian and inspirational stories, as well as those curious about the unique challenges facing biracial children, will appreciate this tale of struggle and triumph. Novel is also available in hardcopy and ebook.

Download or read book Black Diamond Baroness written by M B Chattelle and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013-01-23 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perth and Rockingham, Western Australia were turnaround locations for uncut diamonds originally smuggled out of the Zimbabwean Marange mines and destined for secret auction in Monaco, Europe. It was an illegal operation set up by Viscount Rupert Blicksworth, an executive of the Bellerose Investissments de Monaco. He engaged Iranian arms dealer Omar Sahran to co-ordinate the operation within Australia. Sahran in turn involved two Aussie crime families, the Russos in Sydney and the Petris in Perth. The Secret Intelligence Services (SIS) in London had information that it was Blicksworth family member in Monaco who was actually handling the final stage of delivery to auction. To find out more, the SIS engaged a new operative in Monaco. On learning about Sahrans involvement, alarm bells rang. His association with terrorists and revolutionaries sparked off memories of how he had doubled crossed the SIS over an arms deal in the Middle East. When intel about a delivery of diamonds were departing from Zimbabwe, the covert SIS interest shifted to Perth, as did their field operative and his Blicksworth contact. Hacket. London based controller Charles Grimshaw had said. Keep it low profile surveillance. The Aussies arent being told anything so no bodies, just useful information we can use against this Baroness Blicksworth when back in Monaco. And Omar Sahran? Hacket questioned and Grimshaw simply grinned. What developed after the disappearance of a small, but valuable, black diamond would crystallise allegiances and cause feuds between, not only, the Russo and Petri crime families, but also within the Blicksworth family and who would live to enjoy their accumulated wealth and title. www.mbchatelle.me.uk
