Book In the Shadow of Satan

Download or read book In the Shadow of Satan written by Janusz A. Subczynski and published by Keller Publishing LLC. This book was released on 2006 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Product Description: The somewhat pretentious title, "In the Shadow of Satan" might imply that this book is a philosophical dissertation on the subject of good and evil. It is not. It is a compilation of memories, first of a young boy, and then of a young adult, from the bloodiest period of 20th century Europe-during the days of the Second World War and Soviet occupation. These tragic events are described as seen through the young eyes of an eyewitness to history. This book does not pretend to furnish detailed information on the Jewish-as well as Christian-holocaust. Yet because the author lived daily in the shadow of those two satans-Nazism and communism-he startlingly reveals an even more true picture than contemporary writing could ever accomplish. Last year the author visited places that he described in this book-places of horror, of suffering, of inhumanity. In the August sunshine no trace of the awful past was visible. Those who lived through that satanic past can never escape its horror. The youth of today do not have a clue. This book must find its way to today's young intellectuals so that the horrors of the past are not repeated. Political correctness today skews the reality of the past. In this book one can see that people of different walks of life, nationalities and ethnic backgrounds were both good and evil. In the gloom of despair-in some instances unprecedented-human nobility flowered like beautiful white lilies on stagnant black water. The American people-even professional historians-have quite limited information on the events which took place in Poland in the years 1939-1989. This simple tale provides a realistic picture of those days, and also shows that the human spirit is invincible and is able to survive and grow even in very difficult environments.

Book Servants of Satan

Download or read book Servants of Satan written by Joseph Klaits and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 1987-02-22 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How the persecution of witches reflected the darker side of the central social, political, and cultural developments of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This is the first book to consider the general course and significance of the European witch craze of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries since H.R. Trevor-Roper’s classic and pioneering study appeared some fifteen years ago. Drawing upon the advances in historical and social-science scholarship of the past decade and a half, Joseph Klaits integrates the recent appreciations of witchcraft in regional studies, the history of popular culture, anthropology, sociology, and psychology to better illuminate the place of witch hunting in the context of social, political, economic and religious change. “In all, Klaits has done a good job. Avoiding the scandalous and sensational, he has maintained throughout, with sensitivity and economy, an awareness of the uniqueness of the theories and persecutions that have fascinated scholars now for two decades and are unlikely to lose their appeal in the foreseeable future.” —American Historical Review “This is a commendable synthesis whose time has come . . . fascinating.” —The Sixteenth Century Journal “Comprehensive and clearly written . . . An excellent book.” —Choice “Impeccable research and interpretation stand behind this scholarly but not stultifying account.” —Booklist “A good, solid, general treatment.” —Erik Midelfort, C. Julian Bishko Professor Emeritus of History and Religious Studies, University of Virginia “A well written, easy to read book, and the bibliography is a good source of secondary materials for further reading.” —Journal of American Folklore

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This highly readable--and useful--examination of Satan and spiritual warfare was written out of necessity. In recent years, pastor and teacher Dennis McCallum found himself fielding more and more questions about Satan. He wanted to recommend a book on the subject, but those he found either reflected extreme beliefs, contained little biblical instruction, used fear tactics, or were poorly written. In Satan and His Kingdom, McCallum clarifies what is true and what is false about Satan, demons, and demonic control--both historically and today. He shows readers how to effectively battle the enemy individually and corporately, all the while keeping their focus on Christ, not Satan. A reliable resource for pastors, lay leaders, and any Christian wanting to know more about evil in the world.

Download or read book The Slavery of Death written by Richard Beck and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-12-23 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to Hebrews, the Son of God appeared to "break the power of him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil--and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death." What does it mean to be enslaved, all our lives, to the fear of death? And why is this fear described as "the power of the devil"? And most importantly, how are we--as individuals and as faith communities--to be set free from this slavery to death? In another creative interdisciplinary fusion, Richard Beck blends Eastern Orthodox perspectives, biblical text, existential psychology, and contemporary theology to describe our slavery to the fear of death, a slavery rooted in the basic anxieties of self-preservation and the neurotic anxieties at the root of our self-esteem. Driven by anxiety--enslaved to the fear of death--we are revealed to be morally and spiritually vulnerable as "the sting of death is sin." Beck argues that in the face of this predicament, resurrection is experienced as liberation from the slavery of death in the martyrological, eccentric, cruciform, and communal capacity to overcome fear in living fully and sacrificially for others.
