Only the duly authorized clergy-priests can serve the body and blood of the Animistic Sacrament to the laity and the peons. The magic water saves one from the mythical Original Sin from the Augustine, the horny monk, Deut. 24:16. 5. The parishioners must keep the "means of grace," the Jewish Decalogue, and other superstitious church laws to follow the error of "progressive sanctification" lies and to make the assurance of salvation UNSURE and fill them with constant guilt of failing to keep the laws. 6. The gullible church members must keep the SABBATH, that is gone, and the Jewish TITHE, that supported the Aaronic priesthood, and other dead rituals and social works, Heb. 9:14. 7. Cal wanted to be a priest under Queen Bess I. So much for the priesthood of the believer. 8. In PCA, Book of Church Order and the Pagan Westminster Confession were my authority if you were conservative. The liberals followed their own Gnostic mysticism. 9. At the Presbytery, they ran the churches like the Episcopalian form of government. 10. They love the KJV, the papal elite Latinized mistranslation from Jerome. All the Latin words changed the meaning of the Koine Greek into their papal myth. 11.) The Bill of Rights forced the Calvinists out of the State Church persecution of the Quakers and Baptists as they did under King Edward, the 6th, and in Massachusetts.

In common thought, Calvin's name is closely associated with the 'limited atonement' stance canonized within the 'TULIP' acronym, but Calvin's personal endorsement of a strictly particularist view, whereby Christ died for the elect alone, is debatable. In Calvin on the Death of Christ, Paul Hartog re-examines Calvin's writing on the subject, traces the various resulting historical trajectories, and engages with the full spectrum of more recent scholarship. In so doing, he makes clear that, while Calvin undoubtedly believed in unconditional election, he also repeatedly spoke of Christ dying for 'all' or for 'the world'. These phrases must be held central if we are to discover Calvin's own view of the subject. Hartog's conclusions will surprise some, and may hold significant implications for the Calvinist tradition today. Throughout, however, they are cogently articulated and sensitively pitched.

Book excerpt: In this case study of the Republic of Geneva, Jeffrey R. Watt convincingly argues the early modern era marked decisive change in the history of suicide. His analysis of criminal proceedings and death records shows that magistrates of the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries often imposed penalties against the bodies and estates of those who took their lives. According to beliefs shared by theologian John Calvin, magistrates, and common folk, self-murder was caused by demon possession. Similar views and practices were found among both Protestants and Catholics throughout Reformation Europe. By contrast, in the late eighteenth century many philosophies defended the right to take one's life under certain circumstances; Geneva’s magistrates in effect decriminalized suicide; and even commoners blamed suicide on mental illness or personal reversals, not on satanic influences. Watt uses Geneva's uniquely rich and well-organized sources in this first study to provide reliable evidence on suicide rates for premodern Europe. He places his findings within a wide range of historical and sociological scholarship, and while suicide was rare through the seventeenth century, he shows that Geneva experienced an explosion in self-inflicted deaths after 1750. Quite simply, early modern Geneva witnessed nothing less than the birth of modern suicide both in attitudes toward it—thoroughly secularized, medicalized, and stripped of diabolical undertones—and the frequency of it.
