Download or read book Narrating Midlife written by Christine Elizabeth Kiesinger and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-04-30 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Narrating Midlife: Crisis, Transition, and Transformation is rooted in a discussion about why it is important to address the midlife years in ways that challenge and interrogate the myths that surround this phase of life. Although readers are free to construct their own meaning after reading each narrative, they are encouraged to attend to the ways in which each narrative reveals how the author grapples with their particular issues communicatively. More important, readers are invited to see the power of narrative re-framing as authors seek to understand, interpret and “live” midlife change(s) in ways that are empowering and life affirming. In this book, contributors spin compelling and meaningful narratives about change at midlife. The empty nest, the surprise discovery of cancer, re-defining one's life at midlife and re-imagining long term commitment after divorce are just some of the topics explored in this book. Auto-ethnographically crafted, the narratives presented throughout the book aim to show how managing and living through change at midlife is very much a communicative endeavor.

Download or read book I m Just Her Father written by Elizabeth Martin and published by Publication Consultants. This book was released on 2014-01-04 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world seen from two set of eyes is enthralling, especially when those eyes belong to two people who share the same genes but different lives. For example, Mel Martin's view of Alaska in the 1960s and 1970s is certainly different from Elizabeth Martin's Alaska of this century. Besides, a father and daughter can look at the same thing and see two different universes. The book stretches from the past to the future, from Alaska to Russia, and from everyday to unique experiences. It includes poetry, short stories, opinion pieces, and even limericks. The goal is to amuse, not educate. Yet, you likely will mine some nuggets from the Martins' combined 85 years of writing experience. Many of the pieces use humor laced with sarcasm. Father and daughter occasionally berate each other, but it is all in fun and includes a lot of love. Readers of all ages will find something in this unique book that appeals to them.

Sometimes a perfect stranger . . . From behind the wheel of her car, Tess Kincaid glimpses a woman walking down a Madison, Wisconsin, street. They’ve never met, but Tess senses an undeniable familiarity about her. Hair color, square chin, wide-set blue eyes . . . Tess sees the same features every time she looks in the mirror. Is neither of those things. Intrigued, Tess introduces herself and discovers that she and her doppelganger, Mimi, have more than appearance in common. They even share the same birthday. Mimi—confident and outgoing where Tess is understated and shy—is convinced they’re twins, separated shortly after birth. Tess, who’s felt unloved and unmoored since her mother disappeared years ago, only knows that there’s more than coincidence at play. And when a body is discovered in a local marsh, Tess is entangled in a search for the truth that will prove fascinating, disconcerting, and ultimately terrifying . . . Praise for the thrillers of T. Download or read book God S Gift written by Lorner J. Jones and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forgive in order to live is my motto. As a former victim of unforgiveness, I repeat this mantra to help me as well. My goal is to help others do the same. Because of my experiences as a child and as an adult, I was inspired to write Damaged Women, How to Rehabilitate, and Is It Discipline or Child Abuse? I want you to be inspired as you read this book of poems and scriptures titled Gods Gift. Oftentimes we cant say what we feel, but writing it down makes it easier. My objective is for you to know that you can survive through forgiving. Just enough faith can give you strength to make it. In Matthew 17:20, Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. He said just speak it, and no matter whats standing in your way, it shall be moved. Forgiveness is the first step in your healing process. Use your trials as stepping stones to a solid foundation. Keep believing and stay positive in everything you do; God will work it out for you. Im encouraged to move forward and remain hopeful of every situation that comes before me. From this point on, dont let anything hold you down; rebuke it and keep moving. My favorite poem is The Swinging Door. My favorite scripture is Psalm 34: I will bless the Lord at all times. He took me form the dirt and healed the hurt in me. Thanks to everyone in my life, and may God truly bless you.

Download or read book The Essays of Michel de Montaigne written by Michel de Montaigne and published by Graphic Arts Books. This book was released on 2021-10-12 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Essays of Michel de Montaigne (1877) is a collection of essays and letters by Michel de Montaigne. Originally published in French as Essais (1580), this edition was translated by English poet Charles Cotton in the late-17th century and republished by William Carew Hazlitt, the grandson of renowned English essayist and critic William Hazlitt. “No man living is more free from this passion [of sorrow] than I, who yet neither like it in myself nor admire it in others, and yet generally the world, as a settled thing, is pleased to grace it with a particular esteem, clothing therewith wisdom, virtue, and conscience. Foolish and sordid guise!” In his masterful essays, Michel de Montaigne eschews the typical distancing required of the authorial voice in order to investigate public matters through a personal lens. As the subject of his own musings, he provides both a stirring self-portrait and an invaluable new voice that will resonate throughout Western literature. Unlike the Enlightenment thinkers who would follow in his footsteps, Montaigne is skeptical of the possibility of human certainty and takes an ethical stand against the European colonial project in the Americas and elsewhere. At times serious, at others tongue-in-cheek, his wide-ranging topics include conscience, politics, sorrow, solitude, fear, friendship, war, and poetry. The Essays of Michel de Montaigne were written at a crossroads in human history—between Renaissance and Enlightenment, Catholicism and Protestantism, Montaigne argues that to look outward requires we first look within, and that the quest for happiness requires us to accept what we cannot know. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of The Essays of Michel de Montaigne is a classic of French philosophy reimagined for modern readers.
