His communist regime imposed such strict isolation and extreme hunger on us that in June of 1953 the citizens of East Germany waged an unsuccessful uprising to gain freedom from Russia and communism. Finally, in the fall of 1953, when I was eighteen, we escaped to West Germany. These are the memories of my childhood and teen years.

The book gives the reader a vivid first hand portrayal of a young American’s fear and hope during his capture and confinement by the Germans. During the ordeal Harv was able to see the humor in a tough situation.

While political correctness has been solidifying its place in our lives for some time now, it has recently been joined by its natural adjunct partner...socialism. Our current administration has decided it knows what's best for us in spite of a majority of voters expressing an opposing opinion. But my real fear is that his agenda and ambitions are going to destroy America... Obama is not the first president with a large streak of narcissism. But the others had equally expansive feelings about their country. He epitomizes today's "me" culture with their "it's not my fault" mentality supported by their entitlement attitude. He is the embodiment of everything that is "wrong" with America today...he is the maestro of the blame-game (mistakes will be made, but others can be blamed). We have misplaced our traditional values while buying into the liberal's progressive mindset. Our losses have been mounting for decades and the accumulative consequences are coming to bear. The list is endless: common sense, common courtesies, responsibility, accountability, integrity, family values, love of country...and God. I'm not suggesting he caused this decline in America's moral values; but I would suggest his radical vision for America...and beyond, is to take what we see today to the next level. From his distorted perspective he is myopically focused on shepherding us to what's "right" for America.

I thought that I was a success in the Race to the moon until that race was cancelled by a war. I was overcome by flood from a broken water main that destroyed my business. A sudden change in the law that at first protected my business and then later denied it. A sudden fire in an adjacent building destroyed the roof of my business. A change in how computers made life amazingly good was replaced by cell phones. It appeared that somehow I was not meant to be a success. My Reason Even before I was born my goal was to be born but that was quickly changed to mere survival. My mother attempted an early abortion by bathing in a tub that was filled with a laundry lye soap that was definitely a method used to kill the unborn child within her, but it ultimately failed, and I was born. Of course, I never knew about this even till much later in my life. I then began my life not knowing that every future opportunity was predestined to not come to fruition. I never understood that my path to success was under the path of my personal Dark Cloud. My first marriage was wonderful until several years later my wife learned of how she was born and the infamous circumstance that permitted her birth was enough to destroy everything two years later.
