Book History of the Davis Family

Download or read book History of the Davis Family written by Albert Henry Davis and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Davis Family To My Kinsmen and Others - The Biographical, Historical and Genealogical Record of the descendants of our ancestor, John Davis, upon which I have spent four years' labor, and not a little expense, nears completion, and will soon be ready for the press. I have departed somewhat from the methods of some genealogists and have traced, not only the descendants of the male line, but also the descendants of the female line, thus bringing the record as far as was possible in full, down to date, I have also traced the ancestry of many of those families which have become interlinked with ours by marriage, going back in many instances to the time that the ancestors of these families came to this country. I have often wished since the commencement of the work that it had fallen into abler hands, and I have also been impressed with the fact that if it were to be done at all, it had been undertaken none too soon. Older members of the family who were living when the work was commenced, and from whom much information was received, have passed away to join the great silent majority. Old town, church and property records, from which facts and data have also been drawn, are fast fading away, and will soon be illegible, so that unless the records are re-written and then printed, in a few years the facts obtainable from them will be forever lost. The correspondence which has grown out of the compilation of this work has been very large. Over 3,000 letters have been sent, and answers to nearly all of them have been received. Our fathers are gone, many of them sleep in unmarked graves, and many of the other graves are becoming unmarked by the ravages of the elements and time. Book A Genealogy of the Davis Family Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Genealogy of the Davis Family Classic Reprint written by Henry William Clark and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Genealogy of the Davis Family The separate parts are: No. I. The Clark Family; No. II. The Parks Family; N 0. III. The Brockman and Dean Families; N 0. IV. The Davis Family, and N 0. V. The Goss Family. He engaged in the work with no intention of publishing it, but instead he intended simply to leave a manuscript copy to his chil dren. After many inquiries as to his purpose, and with expres sions of desire from many persons to possess a copy, he deter mined to publish it in book form. He so announced, enlarged the scope, invoked the aid of his friends, and has devoted much time and patient labor collecting information for use in its preparation. The work has assumed proportions greatly beyond his expecta tion. The chronology of persons and families has had special atten tion. This, however, is not the highest function of genealogy, valuable though it be in tracing and proving a line of descent and relationship, but it is the preserving and presenting to our contemplation the lives and real character of our ancestors and kindred. This has been kept prominent and becomes therefore an interesting feature of the work. Each of the several parts of the work comprises a distinct line, and the persons are named in the order of birth, so far as the facts were obtainable. In some of the parts eight generations are accounted for. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
