Book Mr Darcy and the Governess

Download or read book Mr Darcy and the Governess written by Valerie Lennox and published by Punk Rawk Books. This book was released on with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After Miss Elizabeth Bennet’s father is swindled in an investment opportunity, the family finds themselves in dire straits, and the eldest Bennet sisters must seek positions as governesses. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy needs a replacement for the disastrous Miss Younge, who brought his younger sister to near ruin at the hands of the late Mr. Wickham, so he hires Elizabeth. Wickham was killed in a flurry of violence. He threatened Miss Darcy with a knife; Mr. Darcy rushed to defend his sister; the end result was not entirely purposeful. Now, however, both Mr. Darcy and his sister are altered, and Elizabeth knows nothing of what befell them both. So, she arrives to an imposing and grim estate, a secretive and brooding employer, and a haughty and troubled charge. I’m afraid this is another of my out-of-character Mr. Darcy variations. I know not entirely what happened, but a bit of Mr. Rochester seemed to creep into him by degrees as I wrote, and I fear he is a bit darker than our own Fitzwilliam, though hopefully circumstances explain his behavior. I also failed at keeping it clean. Again. I seem to always fail at that, don’t I? Heavens.

Book Mr Darcy and the Governess A Pride and Prejudice Romantic Comedy

Download or read book Mr Darcy and the Governess A Pride and Prejudice Romantic Comedy written by Alix James and published by Mr. Darcy. This book was released on 2023-09-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: **Elizabeth Bennet** My life is in tatters: a scandalous elopement, the possible loss of my beloved Longbourn, and the mortifying memory of a rejected proposal. As if that's not enough, I now have the delightful job of handling the unruly Holt children as their governess. Little did I know, this role would pull me into the world of international intrigue. Italy, Napoleon, and danger? Not exactly what I signed up for. **Things going terribly wrong: ** 1. Longbourn's impending doom. (Just perfect.) 2. Becoming a governess. (Desperation calls.) 3. Discovering the Holt's suspicious interest in Napoleon. (Because, of course.) 4. Running into the last person I'd ever want to see. (Why, universe, why?) 5. Realizing that the only man who can help me navigate this mess is the one whose heart I broke. (Oh, irony.) **Fitzwilliam Darcy** Getting over Elizabeth Bennet? Harder than I imagined. Being called upon for a crucial mission? Just my luck. Finding out Elizabeth is tangled in the very web I'm trying to unravel? Absolutely unbelievable. **Things I didn't expect this year: ** 1. Elizabeth becoming ensnared in an international incident. (Coincidence? I think not.) 2. Having to balance my mission with my feelings. (I'm not prepared.) 3. The burning need to protect Elizabeth from looming danger while she still despises me. (Old habits.) 4. Europe on the brink of war... again. (Timing is everything.) 5. Realizing the only way forward is to confront our past. (I could use a sign.) In a world teetering on war, can a gentleman set on deciphering international secrets and a governess wrapped up in her own tumultuous saga find their way back to each other?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I much prefer the sharpest criticism of a single intelligent man to the thoughtless approval of the masses. ELIZABETH BENNET is determined that she will put a stop to her mother's plans to marry off the eldest Bennet daughter to Mr. Collins, the Longbourn heir, but a man that Mr. Bennet considers an annoying dimwit. Hence, Elizabeth disguises herself as Jane and repeats her vows to the supercilious rector as if she is her sister, thereby voiding the nuptials and saving Jane from a life of drudgery. Yet, even the "best laid plans" can often go awry. FITZWILLIAM DARCY is desperate to find a woman who will assist him in leading his sister back to Society after Georgiana's failed elopement with Darcy's old enemy George Wickham. He is so desperate that he agrees to Lady Catherine De Bourgh's suggestion that Darcy marry her ladyship's "sickly" daughter Anne. Unfortunately, as he waits for his bride to join him at the altar, he realizes he has made a terrible error in judgement, but there is no means to right the wrong without ruining his cousin's reputation. Yet, even as he weighs his options, the touch of "Anne's" hand upon his sends an unusual "zing" of awareness shooting up Darcy's arm. It is only when he realizes the "zing" has arrived at the hand of a stranger, who has disrupted his nuptials, that he breathes both a sigh of relief and a groan of frustration, for the question remains: Is Darcy's marriage to the woman legal? What if Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet met under different circumstances than those we know from Jane Austen's classic tale: Circumstances that did not include the voices of vanity and pride and prejudice and doubt that we find in the original story? Their road to happily ever after may not, even then, be an easy one, but with the expectations of others removed from their relationship, can they learn to trust each other long enough to carve out a path to true happiness?

Book excerpt: This thrilling conclusion to the Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman trilogy recounts the climactic events of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice from its enigmatic hero’s point of view. One of the most beloved romantic heroes in all of literature, Fitzwilliam Darcy remains an enigma even to Jane Austen’s most devoted fans. But with this concluding volume in the Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman trilogy, novelist and Austen aficionada Pamela Aidan at last gives readers the man in full. These Three Remain follows a humbled Darcy on the journey of self-discovery after Elizabeth Bennet’s rejection of his marriage proposal, in which he endeavors to grow into the kind of gentleman he’s always dreamed of being. Happily, a chance meeting with Elizabeth during a tour of his estate in Derbyshire offers Darcy a new opportunity to press his suit, but his newfound strengths are put to the test by an old nemesis, George Wickham. Vividly capturing the colorful historical and political milieu of the Regency era, Aidan writes in a style evocative of her literary progenitor, but with a wit and humor very much her own. While staying faithful to the people and events in Austen’s original, she adds her own fascinating cast of characters, weaving a rich tapestry out of Darcy’s past and present that will beguile his admirers anew.
