Book Migrants Refugees and Asylum Seekers Integration in European Labour Markets

Download or read book Migrants Refugees and Asylum Seekers Integration in European Labour Markets written by Veronica Federico and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-21 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book discusses how, and to what extent, the legal and institutional regimes and the socio-cultural environments of a range of European countries (the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and the UK), in the framework of EU laws and policies, have a beneficial or negative impact on the effective capacity of these countries to integrate migrants, refugees and asylum seekers into their labour markets. The analysis builds on the understanding of socio-cultural, institutional and legal factors as “barriers” or “enablers”; elements that may facilitate or obstruct the integration processes. The book examines the two dimensions of integration being access to the labour market (which, translated into a rights language means the right to work) with its corollaries (recognition of qualifications, vocational training, etc.), and non-discriminatory working conditions (which, translated into a rights language means right to both formal and substantial equality) and its corollaries of benefits and duties deriving from joining the labour market. It thereby offers a novel approach to labour market integration and migration/asylum issues given its focus on legal aspects, which includes most recent policy changes and legal decisions (including litigation cases). The robust, evidence-based and comparative research illustrated in the book provides academics and students, but also practitioners and policy makers, with up to date knowledge that will likely impact positively on policy changes needed to better address integration conundrums.

Book Social Security Programs and Retirement around the World

Download or read book Social Security Programs and Retirement around the World written by Axel Börsch-Supan and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2021-03-05 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ninth phase of the International Social Security project, which studies the experiences of twelve developed countries, examines the effects of public pension reform on employment at older ages. In the past two decades, men’s labor force participation at older ages has increased, reversing a long-term pattern of decline; participation rates for older women have increased dramatically as well. While better health, more education, and changes in labor-supply behavior of married couples may have affected this trend, these factors alone cannot explain the magnitude of the employment increase or its large variation across countries. The studies in this volume explore how financial incentives to work at older ages have evolved as a result of public pension reforms since 1980 and how these changes have affected retirement behavior. Utilizing a common template to analyze the developments across countries, the findings suggest that social security reforms have strengthened the financial returns to working at older ages and that these enhanced financial incentives have contributed to the rise in late-life employment.

Download or read book Active Labour Market Policies in Germany and Denmark A comparison written by Marius Heil and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, grade: 1,0, Vytautas Magnus University, language: English, abstract: In the following Essay the authors wants to compare the two geographic neighbors Denmark and Germany and their different measures of active labour market policies that they have implemented in their systems. Active labour market policies have a long history that is going back to the so-called Rehn-Meidner model which was born in the 1960`s in Sweden, but the research about this topic is not that old and goes back with its begins to the the years between 1990 and 2000. On the one hand, when you think about nowadays research literature the most experts agree that the champion of ALMPs comes from Denmark. This small nordic country is often seen as a paradigm and model at ALMPs. On the other hand we have Germany, a country with a booming economy and every year new records with total numbers of employments. Both countries have strongly developed economies and low unemployment rates. The author wants to compare these successful countries and wants to focus on the impact of Active Labour Market Policies. Unemployment is one of the biggest problems in every nations economy. How is it possible to get as much as possible people in longterm employment. How can you help to prevent long-term unemployment? How can you prepare your human capital well for the labor market trough life-long-learning in a fast-paced world? And how can guarantee a certain flexibility on the other side for your open, globalized and innovative economy? So what are the right measures to achieve your labor market policy goals?

Book Consensus Cooperation and Conflict

Download or read book Consensus Cooperation and Conflict written by Henning Jørgensen and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arguing that policy formation in Denmark is characterized by decentralization, Jorgenson (political science, Aalborg U., Denmark) presents a historical analysis of the development of the Danish welfare system. His central thesis is that there are repeated, recognizable, and unique traits in the way Danish politics and administration are designed that define a profile of structures of compromise and agreement between different social and political actors. He argues that principles of labor division form the basis of role definitions and actor relations. The public institutions function as mediators between macro, micro, and collective actors in conflict. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
